There was a lot of angst in this on the way to getting Tohrment to let go of Wellsie. Apparently she and their baby were stuck in the “in between” and slowly moving further away until they disappeared forever. They would never make it to the Fade unless Tohrment lets them go, and gets over his grief.
He begins to feel attracted to No’One who is the mother of Xhex and was the young girl that he and Darius rescued when he was young. She had been taken hostage by a Sympath and raped and when they rescued her, she wouldn’t allow them to return her to her family with the glymera to be shunned. She knew she was pregnant, so Darius and Tohrment took care of her until she gave birth and right afterward she stole Tohr’s knife and killed herself.
She was brought back as a Chosen, but has always seen herself as a servant, so she called herself No’One and served the Chosen. Recently she has been living in the mansion to get to know Xhex, but since Xhex has been busy, she has been doing laundry in the mansion and has been seeing Tohrment more and more.
Talk about angst, there couldn’t be more between Quinn and Blaylock. They are continuing to pine after each other. Blay still is with Quinn’s cousin and Quinn does his best not to picture the two males together. Quinn serviced his good friend Layla the Chosen when she went into her needing, so she just might be preggers with his baby. Layla is now staying with Quinn but she fed Xcor and she has a crush on him. He can’t stop thinking about her either. Sounds like a recipe for disaster or a crazy mixed family.
One thing I can say about these books is they are never ever boring. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
One of the very best series out there!! Highly recommend these well written stories and characters!! JR Ward’s is outstanding at building and blending this incredibly sexy, paranormal world!
There isn’t a book that J.R. Ward writes that isn’t worth reading. The BDB series is one of the best ever!
This is the 10th book of the series, and it is an emotional one. Tohrment has been struggling to live again after the death of his shellan and is on a deadline to let his grief go. He has to learn to let go of the past and move on with his life if he wants to give his beloved shellan true peace. I have liked Tohr since he was introduced and loved Wellsie. I was so upset when she died. This book worried me because I wasn’t sure if I wanted Tohr to have another shellan after Wellsie.
“Life was short, no matter how many days you were granted. And people were precious, each and every one, no matter how many you were lucky enough to have in your life. And love… love was worth dying for. Worth living for, too.”
I have mixed feelings about Tohrment and Autumn (No’One). To start with I liked both of these characters and think they make a good couple. My problem is with how that relationship came about. Tohr is basically forced into a new relationship before he is ready in the hope that it will give Wellise true peace. Because of this I just felt bad for Autumn through most of the book. I felt she was getting used, especially since Tohr wouldn’t do normal relationship stuff with her like cuddle and talk. In the end it works out for them and we will just have to see how their relationship progresses in future books.
John and Xhex also have issues in this book. Not even mated for a week and they already are having issues. I really hated this part and wish Ward didn’t have so much conflict between couples. I want more HEA instead of HFN with the brothers. Xcor, leader of the Band of Bastards, is also featured a lot in this book. I didn’t like him much at first but he is growing on me. I want to see how his future is going to play out and I am sure it’s going to be an emotional one. Lassiter also really steps it up in this book and I can’t wait to see how he is going to play into the future story.
Lover Reborn is another amazing story in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I seriously can’t get enough of this world. Each and every book is filled with so much depth. There’s love, hope, fighting, and heat… this had it all!
I love the entire Black Dagger Brotherhood series and always await her new books anxiously. If you have never read JR Ward, give it a try. She is awesome!
The book is well written but I wasn’t a fan of the storyline. No matter how J.R. Ward wrote it I wouldn’t have been happy. I loved Tohr’s first wife so much, it’s hard imagining him with anyone else.
From the very beginning of the series you want to root for Tohr with everything that happens, and now we finally get his story! Very satisfying.
The Black Dagger Brotherhood series is one of my top 10 favorites.
Ms. Ward creates a world with in a world, filled with larger than life vampire warriors who protect their society from detection by the humans and the evil lessers who are out to destroy them.
I can’t pick a favorite character because I love them all.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of reading this series then I highly recommend that you get your copy today. Although you don’t have to read them in order I think it enhances the experience.
Happy Reading:)
I can never get enough of this series. From first page I do not want to put the book down. I love the characters and their stories.
As always, J.R. Ward writes a great, in depth novel with nearly too much plot. First, I did love the Tohr/Autumn romance, for the most part. It’s been stated from the first book in this series that a male could have more than one shellan at a time, though I am uncertain if males bond with more than one at a time. So I had no problems with a new love for Tohr. I even liked Autumn, despite her servitude tendencies. My issue with their romance was it took all year going no where, then felt rushed at the end. Like Tohr just announced his love. He TOLD us readers, he never showed it. At all. Secondly, Wells wasn’t in the Fade because of a lack of Fade cerimony and no one could figure this out?! WTF?! And telling Tohr it’s because he loved her too much, what bull crap. The Scribe Virgin’s vampire race has bonded males who have huge instinctive needs of feeding and sheltering and caring for their shellans. In fact, in Father Mine, Bella asked about a bonded males ability to love their young. To a bonded male, nothing is more loved then their female, not even their young, though they do love their young. But… Tohr is holding on too much?!
So yeah, I had problems with this book. And the zillion plot lines it has. Sigh. I am glad not to read lesser scenes in this one, thankfully. But Assail, the Bastards, John and Xhex, Blay and Quinn, Layla and Xcor, Quinn and Layla…. I’m thinking J.R. Ward is adding too much urban fantasy to her paranormal romance. Same as the confusing convoluted mess the Dark-Hunter series is turning into. Not sure I’m thrilled by this.
That said, I still enjoyed the read. Most definitely. Just bugged by a few details…
Lover Reborn, the 10th book in the BDB series was an emotional read for me. I have loved Tohr since book one. I also loved his mate Wellsie. I thought they were so cute together and that they had a strong connection. So I was very heartbroken when Wellsie got shot and killed while pregnant with Tohr’s son. I mean I cried my eyes out when she died. The pain Tohr felt was so realistic that I ached. So when I heard Tohr was getting his own book and a new love I was happy and worried. I was happy that he would get a HEA as he so deserved it, but worried that the new love wouldn’t hold a candle to Wellsie or the love him and his dead mate had. I have no problem with widow love stories as long as the new love doesn’t feel like a consolation prize.
In this book I had mixed feelings about Tohr and Autumn(No’One). While Tohr suffered and I felt bad for him I felt worst for Autumn. It was horrible that he was pushed into moving on. Most of the time I felt like Tohr was using Autumn. For months he would sleep in bed with her but not under the covers and he wouldn’t hold her. It was still painful to read. I felt that Autumn was second place to his dead mate. Hell at one point he told Autumn that he was using her to get Wellsie to the Fade and that he still loves his dead mate.
I loved this book, it’s probably a tie with Zsadist’s book for my favorite of the series. The journey that we had to witness Tohr go through to get to the end of this book was heartbreaking, but in the end we see true growth and acceptance on his part. I also loved the side story with John Matthew and Xhex. I love that couple! I’m looking forward to learning more about Quinn in the next book, as well as what happens with the BoB. This installment was complex and deep and a VERY good read.
