In this installment of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series we get to know John Matthews better and get to see him mature and fall in love. His love for Xhex and strong and, he soon learns, painful. We also learn a lot about Xhex and see quite a change in her. There is a fabulous connection between her and John that is played out in chapters throughout the book. I loved the change in scenery. There is also a new character introduced, Payne, and her story is quite interesting. I’m looking forward to reading the next book which focuses on her.
The conflict with Lash continues in this book and Lash’s transformation is disturbing. Everything throughout the book is so vividly described and keeps the reader entranced.
This book took me a while to read, but not because of the story. The paperback edition is very thick and the writing is small. Although the story was amazing and intriguing, I had to take breaks. I have the next book in the series and although it is the same format with small print, I can’t wait to start it. This series is just too good to wait on.
Finally John Matthew and Xhex’s book!!!
Xhex has been stuck in a prison made by Lash for weeks and every day she loses more strength fighting him. She expects to die a prisoner and regrets her actions with the one male she wants, John Matthew. JM never gave up looking for her, even after he believes she has died he still keeps fighting to avenge her.
I have been waiting for this book forever and it was so worth the wait. JM and Xhex’s story was an emotional rollercoaster filled with pain, heartache, and a lot of action. I loved every moment of it and came close to tears a few times. Watching John support and comfort Xhex after she was freed was heartbreaking and just made me love him more. John Matthew is everything I love in a great hero. He was strong, determined, protective, and very supportive of Xhex and her abilities. He might not like that she fights but he accepts that part of her and provides back up. Xhex is one of my favorite females in this series. She is a very unique and kickass female that I just can’t help but love her. I love that she does have a softer side that comes out occasionally. I just adore these two and can’t wait to see more of them.
Of course there are also other things going on in this book. Blay and Quinn are struggling to fight their feelings throughout this book. I cannot wait to reread their books because it’s a good one. There are also more scenes with Payne in this book and I can’t wait to see how it will play out.
Overall, another fantastic installment for the Black Dagger Brotherhood and I can’t wait to start the next book (which will be right away).
Reader Warning:
Sexual assault mentioned throughout book
I loved iy buty prejudiced. Bevause I am huge J
Love this whole series!!! But anything that stars Zsadist is my absolute favorites!!!
My favorite vampire series. Loved it.
This was so fantastic! I loved John and Xhex and this detailed world filled with wonderful and complicated characters. There was so much depth, emotion, and love. By the end, my heart was bursting!
Loved it! Love all the books in this series.
I thoroughly enjoy the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J. R. Ward. I would suggest starting at the begiinning. The vampires are warriors but so gentle with their ladies.
A great book, action and steamy with strong characters. Gotta love the Brotherhood
loved it have all of them!
Awesome Book – keeps you interested from the beginning to the end. I will caution you there are about five different stories in this book. However, it all comes together in the end. This book is worth the read for fans of J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood interesting world.
I loved each character . Lots of loyalty, testosterone, and steam! Great series!!
Not my favorite in the BDB series, but definitely excellently written. I love the characters and the world JR Ward has created. Honestly, my only gripe with this book was how many storylines were going on. I’ve never been a fan of how many lesser scenes are in the books, but I could see why the Lash storyline was included. As well as the Darius/Torhment past scenes, and obviously the main couple. But throw in Blay/Quinn/Saxton and Payne’s storyline, I felt John and Xhex got shafted. Still good read.
OMG John Matthew and Xhex……. God I loved them! Their story was so powerful and emotional and….just beautiful. I was really looking forward to John and Xhex’s story as I felt really invested in them. This book was everything I wanted and more. As John and Xhex’s story unfolded I was a total wreck. My emotions were all over the place. One minute I was smiling, then I was laughing, then crying, then aching, and swooning . J.R. Ward is amazing in the way she can write these epic love stories that touch so many people. As one of those people all I can say is Thank You. These books give me such joy and live in my heart long after I read the last page.
John was sexy and utterly wonderful. The way he was with Xhex so caring, and supportive. Always putting her first. Very protective, but he never tried to change Xhex. He knew he was in love with a fighter and he didn’t disrespect her by acting like she couldn’t take care of herself. One of the things I loved the most about John Matthew was even though he was totally kick butt, he had this vulnerable side. His being mute and having been raped when he was a pretran in no way made him weaker they made him stronger, a survivor. John is my second favorite hero of the series. Xhex was also completely amazing. A total bad in her own right, she kicked butt and didn’t bother with names. So it was heartbreaking and emotional to see her hurt, violated, and helpless. What I love is that she never gave up. A fighter til the end she fought with everything she had. I also loved how soft she was with John Matthew and John Matthew only. She let him in, let her guard down with him. It was cute how he brought out her girly side to a point. She was still kick butt Xhex, but still the softness was very endearing.
John and Xhex together were explosive and sexy as hell. OMG they had some major heat. When they came together it was raw, powerful and totally gave me hot flashes lol.
Another Terrific Read! This storyline just keeps getting better-more engrossing, more suspenseful. I can’t say it enough how much I enjoy the way these titles just keep becoming more and more complex. The love story between John Matthew and Xhex was by no means conventional and for a while there I struggled with understanding how in the world they were going to make this love connection happen. Not surprising, Ms. Ward found a sexy, dark, twisted, complex and completely satisfying way of getting them there. Loved it! Wished Lash could’ve suffered a bit more but on a high note I’m even more in love with Qhuinn and Blay than I was before!
I loved this book. Not as much as Zsadist’s story still, but it was a good one. I loved how the story flipped between present day John and past Darius. And I loved finding out how everything was all connected. The battle with Lash was very entertaining, I was on the edge of my seat. And I truly think John and Xhex deserve each other. I’m intrigued by what happened at the end with Payne and can’t wait to see what happens next.
Loved it! Kept it! So worth the read.
What can I say…BEST SERIES EVER!
