Scott Hildreth is a married father of six children. He is an international bestselling romance author who has published more than fifty novels, over half of which have been number one bestsellers. His journey to his current existence, however, wasn’t always an easy one. He never imagined that a weekend hobby would land him in federal prison, a donut shop would produce the love of his life, or … life, or that contemporary romance novels would have his name splashed across the covers.
At one point, he had it all: a house on the hill, a wife, three children, and a rewarding career. After becoming the focus of an ATF investigation, his world was turned upside down.
The legal battle for his freedom ended in a loss on the steps of the United States Supreme Court. In the subsequent trip to federal prison, he lost his wife, contact with his children, and his home.
After serving his prison sentence, he returned to work and reunited with the men in his motorcycle club. Once again on top of the world, but lacking trust in society – and women in general – his only relationship was with his motorcycle.
Three years later, Scott was jobless, carless, penniless, and holding an eviction notice. He then took a chance at a career he had no formal training in – being an author. His inspiration came from a woman he shared a table with in a donut shop.
Fueled by nothing more than his love for her, he clawed his way to the top of the industry and hasn’t looked back since.
Lover Come Back is a true – but often unbelievable – story of loss, sacrifice, second chances, and ultimately, love. It takes the reader on a tear-jerking journey from the horrors of a federal criminal trial to the lush beaches of Naples Florida, where Scott and his family currently reside.
A testament to the pain the human heart can endure, and to the repair that only love can bring, Lover Come Back is a must-read memoir that will cause you to believe that second chances can produce first loves.

I started reading this last night and finished it about 10 minutes after my alarm went off telling me it was time to go to work this morning. I don’t think there has been a word or phrase created that can accurately describe that level of reading intoxication – that point where you get so engrossed in a story that you are completely incapable of closing the book and returning to real life. It’s exhilarating and a little terrifying to be so completely out of control and at the mercy of a book.
When a story is as gripping as this one – it’s easy to get lost. I’m late to discover this author’s books, so it’s been in the last year that I have been discovering this world. To read Lover Come Back, such a personal story, and yet to recognize so many characters and scenes from the books I have already read and loved it felt a little like reading family.
I had to create a new bookshelf on my Goodreads account when I started reading this author. After much debate I settled on “HIMSELF.” His books contain all the things I love about my ‘romance’ novels – but with an edge and perspective uniquely SD. This memoir was no different. Scott and Jessica’s not so fluffy romance is the story. It’s real and honest and it made me laugh out loud and it made me cry big ugly tears – and it made me stay up all night long!
It’s a beautiful story and well worth the sleepless night. Highly recommend!

I loved this book from the beginning to the end. This author stripped himself bare for us all to see and it just makes you believe that no matter what you can still find true love in your life.
One word: CAPTIVATING! Why did it take me so long to read his story? It proved there is a much deeper personality within the person with the tats, the person that looks scary on Facebook live (who was really a nice person when I met him at a Tampa author event in 2017). Scott Hildreth is the epitome of “overcomer”, “making lemonade out of lemons”, and all the other sayings to express making the best out of the life you’ve been dealt. Amazing story and I can see why his father was so proud of him. Message to Jess (“Nobody would want to read that.”), NOT TRUE! I wanted to, I’m glad I finally did and it exceeded my expectations!
Great book—always great to get insight into the life of an author. An inspirational and fast read!
Mr. Hildreth’s books are like Lay’s Potato Chips…you can’t read just one! And so I have been devouring his books.
Ah Scott! You did it again! Just when I thought I couldn’t admire you more you come out with Lover Come Back and BONUS it’s a memoir!
This is Scott’s journey, this is his life and it’s the love he has for Jessica and his family. It was a book that gives you all the feels. I laughed, I cried and it really made me rethink some things I thought I believed in.
Scott’s fiction is fantastic. And now reading this, it makes me appreciate his books all the more. I admire his vigilance for his work and not bowing down to the pressures of literary professionals that told him to change.
I could understand his hesitancy to start a relationship with Jessica at first but when he backed away I wanted to smack him upside the head and say “WTF Dude!” I am glad that obviously he pulled his head out of his ass (Like is dad told him to!) and did the right thing. I got a kick out of the “30 day rule” and it brought back memories of his book. Now that I have finished this, I am planning on one day going back and re-reading his stories with a fresh set of eyes knowing what I know now.
Thank you for baring a bit of your soul with us with this story! Your fans will love it and I hope it brings even more to the fold!
I am mentally sending you a fist bump and saying “Well done sir, well done!”
This authors story is one everyone should read, it gave me so much insight to who he is and why! I loved this book so much, every word of it! I laughed, cried and got a little mad. Those are all great factors of a fabulous story! I have read other books by this author, but this one is by far my favorite and I am looking forward to continuing my reading journey with him. Bravo!
Its Scott, that speaks for itself. A true realistic look at his life from the inside out. Heart breaking while being heart warming. A book you read slowly so it doesn’t end so fast.
This book took us on your journey of life and self-discovery and it completely blew me away. In was a tear-jerker by the time I came to the end though. I’m so sorry that you lost a great man. He is what we all want a Father to be. The things that you had to go through in life no one should. But you stood up for what you believed was right and didn’t let anyone tell you any different. But when it came to you and Jessica I couldn’t tell how happy I was to see that true love, the love that you know is there for the long haul had some hard times as well but overall you both came out on top. I’m so glad that you wrote this book, it gave me so much insight on you as a person and they way your life has changed over the years. This book is a MUST read. I couldn’t put it down. Scott please continue to give us amazing and brilliant masterpieces. Truly inspirational and I’m glad to have read it and I’m beyond excited to give this book 5+ stars
Honestly I don’t think I can truly put into words how amazing this book was. I am so thankful that Scott shared his story with us!! If you have read any of Scott’s book than you need to immediately read this!! It is a truly spectacular story!!
WOW! I’m not sure where to start. I’ve been a fan for a couple of years now, started when I first read Hard. Scott Hildreth has a fantastic talent for story telling and reading this memoir of his was no different.
It was positively fascinating to get a glimpse into the past of Mr. Hildreth. He certainly hasn’t had a boring life. And after this peak into Jessica & his life, my respect for them has increased. The best part of this book? The HEA is real.
I waited on this one, waited for everything to die down. Avoided all reviews and teasers so I could go in with no preconceptions.
I truly loved the insight into the author’s world and the relationship he had with his father. His personality shows in his novels and now we see where that comes from.
Well worth the read.
