This book is ‘kinda’ a re-write of Secret Sky only it is from Emelynn’s viewpoint. It takes the reader back to where she meets Jackson Delaney and their complicated lives. The characters are well developed and the story has very good details as to what is going on. A nice story over-all. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Jackson Delaney has just gone through the death of his father. And although he is the beneficiary of the family business he knows he has work to do to rebuild both the company and his family name. He has a half brother, Cole, who he denies as did his father, causing Cole to become desperate. After a failed blackmail attempt by Cole, Jackson’s wife Sandra goes missing. After several weeks it become apparent that she has been kidnapped. Now the race is on to find her.
This is the same story as Secret Sky, the first book the the Gift Legacy series, only told from Jackson’s view point. There is a lot of new information about what happened before the first story starts and of course reading it from another point of view creates a totally unique book.
The characters are extremely well defined and made personable by their flaws and strengths. It is an emotional drama as the characters go through various feelings as they cope with the situations they are put through. The thriller’s storyline is strong and filled with interesting twists and turns along with delightful and dangerous surprises. I found this a creative book as the author looks at what is happening from a totally different view point. It was a treat to see another side of a great story.

This is my first time reading this author and so the plot, the characters, everything is completely new to me. I am very happy that I chose to read this book and I shall be looking out for more books from this author. She has done a great job of world building in this book and writes in a way the drew me into the plot. I thought the characters are well rounded and have depth to them, the fact that they are not perfect allowed me to connect easier with them, at least on some small level. This is an exciting and interesting story and I’m very happy to have found this author, not sure where I’ve been but at least I have discovered her now! If fantasy thrillers are your thing then I suggest giving this author and this book a try, I wasn’t disappointed, and I doubt you shall be either.

Actually 3.5 stars.
Lover Betrayed (Companion Book or #1.5) – I recommend reading this book after Secret Sky since there are parts that explain some things that were not discussed in detail in SS. Of course, there will be redundancies, which I skipped. I found this book too wordy with a good viewpoint from him, but not really a need to read book. It is largely about him, his father and his brother. The event of her kidnapping is detailed. Again, the author shows her prejudice against Christians with her word choices. There is an overview, which I appreciate knowing what a book is about before I read it. I found several books of this series in Booksprout. 3.5*
Secret Sky #1 – This is my first read by this author and I like it. The story’s beginning was slow where the author tried to make a mystery of what happened to Emelynn. The story is interesting, but too wordy, needs editing.
The storylines are good with good characters, several of which were likeable. The author does well with her descriptions, adding to the interest of the story. There is infrequent usage of vulgar language. Ms. McLean shows a complete disregard for the proper usage of God and expressions concerning God, which shows me an intolerance and prejudice against Christians. There are plenty of inoffensive expressions that will work in place of God. There is an overview, which I appreciate knowing what a book is about before I read it. I found several books of this series in Booksprout. 3.5*
I love when authors retell a previous story from a different perspective – well at least when it is a story this awesome. The handsome Jackson has his point of view and it is as engaging as from the point of view of Emelynn. This is such a powerful and wonderful story!
