As the vampire warriors defend their race against their slayers, one male’s loyalty to the Black Dagger Brotherhood will be tested in this breathtaking novel in J. R. Ward’s #1 New York Times bestselling paranormal romance series. Caldwell, New York, has long been the battleground for the vampires and their enemies. It’s also where Rehvenge has staked out his turf as a drug lord and … as a drug lord and owner of a notorious nightclub that caters to the rich and heavily armed. His dangerous reputation is exactly why he’s approached to kill the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood—Wrath, the Blind King.
Rehvenge is used to living in the shadows and keeping his distance from the Brotherhood. As a symphath, his identity is a deadly secret—the revelation of which will result in his banishment. But as Rehvenge is pulled into plots both within and outside of the Brotherhood, he turns to the only source of light in his darkening world. Ehlena is a vampire untouched by the corruption that has its hold on him—and the only thing standing between Rehvenge and eternal destruction…

Finally finished this fab book from @jrwardauthor! Loved this addition to series, definitely one of the top ones for me (although LOVER AWAKENED will always reign supreme). I was curious how Ward was going to portray Rehvenge since he seemed almost unredeemable in the past few books, but she did it oh-so well! Loved Ehlena, she was so relatable to me, even if I didn’t necessarily agree with some of her decisions. Lots of sub-plots in this one, which could be distracting, but I enjoyed them all. Another great read from the Warden!
I am loving this series more with each book I read. All the characters feel more like Family. Even Lash who I really hated at first when he was just a trainee and was mean to John all the time. Now that he is the Omega’s son and an all powerful Lesser villain, he is pretty awesome. You just have to love how good he is at being bad. He is so much smarter than Mr. X, and Mr. O were. Plus he can really do some damage and he isn’t impotent like they were.
This book is mostly about Rehvenge and I was waiting for his story since we have been hearing so much about him in the previous books. I mean he has so many issues, but is such a manly vampire. What is not to like about a huge guy who runs the hottest club in the city, drives a Bentley, has a penthouse, takes care of his Mom, sports a killer Mohawk and Tattoos, and is also a local political leader.
Of course, I knew if he was going to have a love interest in this book, that the evil Sympath Princess blackmailing him into sex that he hates every month would somehow have to be dealt with. I won’t tell if or how that happens, but he falls for a nice nurse from Havers clinic who knows nothing about him being half sympath or owning the club and being a drug kingpin.
Though Ehlena does know Rehv has a problem with dopamine, she thinks it is from the Vampire form of Parkinson’s. She also knows his arm is infected and tries to help him with that, since she is a nice girl.
John and Xhex have more encounters throughout this book. Their storyline is heating up a lot. I can’t wait to find out what happens with them in the next book. John has given up on Tohrment at this point and is so different than he used to be. He is sullen and drunk a lot now. Hopefully that ends soon. It is almost like a soap opera I am coughs up in. But soaps were never this good.
Great series have read every book and can’t wait for The Thief
One of the very best series out there!! Highly recommend these well written stories and characters!! JR Ward’s is outstanding at building and blending this incredibly sexy, paranormal world!
So much is in this story! It’s a little bit of everything and I love this series! A lot of sad and a lot of revelations make this story a game changer but in the end there’s another adventure awaiting in book 8! I’m thrilled that Rehvenge got his HEA!
Nobody does it like J.R. Ward.
Amazing series. READ THEM ALL!!!!
J.R.Ward is great with Vampires love the books. Always a nail biter at times but great.
Everything BDB is 10
I have loved all of her books and this one is no exception! All very different from the usual but all steamy with lots of unusual twists
Well done!
I love this series! It’s best to read them in order but all of the books and characters are awesome.
I love the whole BDB series
Audiobook review: Revenge and Ehlena’s story is fraught with unexpectedness, deceit, loss, sadness, realization, friendship, and love. A few battles and skirmishes as the story unfolds. The traveling train wreck, in concept, was a little predictable but the roll out was unexpected and very well done. The narrator did a fantastic job as always!
The seventh book in the BDB and it deals with Rhevenge. Rhevenge is a sympath and drug lord who rules with an iron fist. Life changes in a blink of an eye for him though when he meets Elhena, a nurse at Havers clinic.
I love Rhevenge and Elhena. Their relationship was cute, tense, and heartbreaking. I loved everything about this book which surprised me because he isn’t a brother. I also don’t remember this book at all so it was like reading it for the first time all over again. Elhena is probably one of my favorite females in this series. She is a survivor who is determined to help the world. She was also very courageous and brave.
“This was why people got mated, Rehv suddenly thought. Fuck the sex and the social position. If they were smart, they did it to make a house that had no walls and an invisible roof and a floor that no one could walk on and yet the structure was a shelter no storm could blow down, no match could torch up, no passage of years could degrade.”
This book also deals a lot with Wrath and Beth and John Mathew and Xhex. Wrath is struggling with his eyesight and still struggling with being king. Him and Beth are having difficulties with their mating as well. Seeing these two struggle and work through it is so relatable.
“Payne nailing him in the face woke him up. George brought him back his independence. But Beth handed him his crown.”
As I said, this book sets up the relationship between John Mathew and Xhex, which isn’t going well as you can imagine. John learns the truth about her being a sympath and things get tense after that. I don’t remember a lot about their relationship so I can’t wait to start the next book and see what happens, especially after this ending.
“Life is such a glorious trauma, is it not?” (Wrath)
Who doesn’t absolutely love the Black Dagger Brotherhood? Witty. Sarcastic. Surreal. Delicious!
This series keeps getting harder and harder to review. Each book covers so much information across so many characters that I can’t possibly begin to touch on everything. So I am going to do something I don’t normally do… I am going to do gif reactions. If you want me to elaborate anything, just drop me a comment.

The Warden does not disappoint – ever!
Rehv and Ehlena – the secrets, the devotion, and the race to find him – and him coming to terms with the fact she actually loves him – all of him?
Fantastic writing
I am a massive fan of the BDB and Rehv is one of my favourites. I love this book because Ehlena is one cool chick. She is a practical thinker, honest about her feelings and her mistakes and is compassionate. She fights her attraction towards Rehv in the beginning, not daring to dream, but she knows herself that she can’t deny it.
Rehv is also compassionate and protective of those he loves, and this is uncovered as you dig past his actions which include drug dealing and pimping. Rehv’s transformation as you learn more about him was very well written in this book.
JR Ward writes great Alphas but it’s her females who steal the show. When Ehlena finds out about what Rehv really is, she is hurt but she has a backbone and doesn’t back down. It’s also her that leads the charge to save him.
This story was filled with so much awesomeness. I adored all the twists and turns, drama and action, love and heart. It was totally addicting!
