“The hottest collection of studs in romance” (New York Times Bestselling Author Angela Knight) returns as J. R. Ward brings together two of the most beloved people in the Black Dagger Brotherhood world—at last…. Qhuinn, son of no one, is used to being on his own. Disavowed from his bloodline, shunned by the aristocracy, he has found an identity as a brutal fighter in the war against the … the war against the Lessening Society. But his life is not complete. Even as the prospect of having a family of his own seems within reach, he is empty on the inside, his heart given to another….
Blay, after years of unrequited love, has moved on from his feelings for Qhuinn. And it’s about time: it seems Qhuinn has found his perfect match in a Chosen female, and they are going to have a young. It’s hard for Blay to see the new couple together, but building your life around a pipe dream is just a heartbreak waiting to happen. And Qhuinn needs to come to terms with some dark things before he can move forward…
Fate seems to have taken these vampire soldiers in different directions, but as the battle over the race’s throne intensifies, and new players on the scene in Caldwell create mortal danger for the Brotherhood, Qhuinn learns the true meaning of courage, and two hearts meant to be together finally become one.

The Black Dagger Brotherhood is one of my favorite series, and Lover at Last didn’t disappoint. I love getting lost in that world for a few hours with powerful, deadly alpha males with an incredible sense of honor and loyalty.
This is one of my all time favorite books from the bdb series!!! I wanted these two to get their happily ever after for so long. This was my first m/m romance and I adored everything about it. When sex and love is from a male point of view its so raw and primal and I love that. All these years these two kept what they felt locked up and they each just went thru the motions hoping that it would go away, but all it did was build and once they both stopped fighting it the passion was glorious!!! JR ward is a master at tapping into the struggles we all have in our everyday liives and that’s why we identify with these characters so much.Even in the vampire world beautiful strong men and women have to fight for love and acceptance. So happy for blay and qhuinn!! Their story will always be one of my all time favorites, because it was a love of a lifetime! We like to think we are in control ,but if somethings meant to be, it shall be.
I just adore Qhuinn and Blaylock. They have been best friends their entire lives and each has been secretly in love with the other almost as long. Though Qhuinn always thought he would end up with a female because he didn’t think he was gay and Blay pretty much always knew he was gay.
They have been building up to this book for the past 10 books as the guys have been pining for each other and have been involved in other trysts and relationships. They used to have threesomes together in bar bathrooms, Qhuinn was quite the manwhore for a long time. Blaylock has been in a relationship for a year with Qhuinn’s male cousin Saxton, and Qhuinn got a Chosen pregnant.
I don’t want to give away spoilers so here are some highlights from this book. Despite secrets between Qhuinn and Blaylock, they finally get hot and steamy and it is soooo good:
However, Qhuinn still has issues with his sexuality
Of course it all ends happily as you would expect. But I won’t tell you how
Another thing, it looks like Layla, the pregnant Chosen is in love with Xcor and vice versa. I am really starting to like him. I wish his ugly lip could get fixed. He is hilarious in this book. Here is an excerpt from when he heads back to the house the Band of Bastards moved to after a battle. It is truly funny, when you thin of how huge they are and how they used to live sort of like Vikings:
“Stalking up the narrow staircase, he missed the doom and gloom of the castle they still owned back in the Old Country. Longed for the heft of the stone that had surrounded them, and the impregnable nature of the layout, with its moat and high walls. Mourned, too, the fun they had had spooking the villagers, giving physical presence to the stuff of myth.
Good times, as they said here in the New World.
On the second floor, he refused to look into the bedrooms. The pink of the one in front burned his eyes, and the sea foam green of the other was another assault on the senses as well. And there was no relief to be had as he walked into the master bedroom. Flowered wallpaper, everywhere. Even on the bed, and across the windows, and all over that chair in the corner.
At least his combat boots crushed the thick carpet, leaving tread prints like bruises on his way to the bath.
For godsakes, he was not even sure what color to call the scheme in here.”
One of the very best series out there!! Highly recommend these well written stories and characters!! JR Ward’s is outstanding at building and blending this incredibly sexy, paranormal world!
I really like the BDB series but was a bit disappointed in this book. Qhuinn and Blay’s story needed more about them rather than feeling like their story was a side story. The whole anarchy issue is unappealing, especially if BDB deaths will be forthcoming. Layla’s love interest is bothersome, especially if there are plans to make her a traitor to the crown.
Awesome writer, love her books, it’s a must read.
I have been a big fan of this series, it’s been my guilty pleasure. I was expecting so much with this book, we have been given little pieces of Blay & Quinn’s relationship for so long that I wanted something outstanding – unfortunately all I got was disappointment.
I love vampire books and I love every book J.R.Ward has written.
I love this Vampire series. Even though this one isn’t my favorite, I still can give it 5 stars because the whole series is so enjoyable.
One of my favorites in this series
Qhuinn and Blay finally get their story. IF you haven’t read any Black Dagger Brotherhood books, you really should start from the beginning. Their story line has been teasing us readers in the background of previous stories, which makes this a very anticipated book. Intense and entertaining, I loved it.
Finally Quinn and Blay’s story!!
This was an emotional book. Blay and Quinn both struggled to work through their pasts and see the changes in each other. Their love for each other has slowly morphed into anger and it takes a lot to work through that. They fought, they loved, and they became stronger for it.
“Because I was, and I remain, utterly and completely and totally…in love with you.” – Blay to Quinn
I so enjoyed this book and it was just what I needed after a bad week. Seeing Blay and Quinn work things out makes me feel like anything is possible and love will always triumph. Also Ward does an exceptional job with her first M/M romance and I hope there are more in the future.
What I could have done with less Assil, Trez, and Xcor in this book though because I want more Quinn and Blay. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy seeing more development in their stories but I just wanted all Quinn and Blay.
Loved this book. Love this author I have all her books in BDB but recent ones.
Lover At Last is my all time favorite of the BDB series! It has everything that you could want in a romance book!
This is a wonderful book in the Black Daggar Brothehood series by JR Ward. The entire series is so exciting and well written that I have read the whole series 9 times now. I highly recommend this series, especially if you enjoy reading about an awesome community of characters.
My emotions were exploding as Blay and Qhuinn came together in this epic story. There was so much happening, so many characters involved, with fantastic storylines taking place. I loved it all!
Never have I read a sexy scene better than the one where Blay and Quinn finally get together. It was the hottest thing ever! Love these characters, and the way JR Ward described their experience was out of this world.
*********************************MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*******************************
I have been waiting a long time for Qhuinn to finally get his stuff together and admit to Blay, and himself, what was truly in his heart. This book was beyond what I hoped for! There was so much action and so many things happening in the book I just could not put it down! I know J.R. Ward had mentioned she was afraid of writing this book because she didn’t want to disappoint anyone. I don’t think she has anything to worry about. I thought the love scenes were tastefully done and extremely HOT!! The only thing I had an issue with was that I felt there were too many scenes with Assail, but I also feel that it was necessary in order to set up the next book(s). Many things were set in motion here that I will have a hard time waiting for the next book!
The epilogue was the best part of the whole book! I also loved watching the subtle changes in Xcor. He is still a bastard and he wants to dethrone Wrath, but we witness a softer side as he is fully enraptured by the Chosen Layla, and she for him. Although it was heartbreaking to watch their realization that they can’t be together, I am totally rooting for that HEA.
Bottom line: Lover at Last is a must-read for anyone who loves the Black Dagger Brotherhood or anyone who loves it when a couple rise above insurmountable odds in order to reach that happily ever after!
Another good one in the series
I absolutely love Qhuinn and Blay. This book was a long time coming. It is fantastic.
