She’s not the woman I thought … but dammit, she’s the woman I want.I never thought of myself as cynical, but getting dumped at the altar changes a man. Now, I’m all about my job. About building my business and getting on with my life. Don’t get me wrong; I still love women. I love the way they look. The way they smell. The way they feel. Especially the way they feel. And I’ve pretty much made it … feel. And I’ve pretty much made it my mission to give each and every woman who shares my bed the ride of her life.
But getting close? Getting serious? Giving a woman my trust again? Yeah, that’s not going to happen.
Or so I thought.
Then I met her. It’s funny how things can change in a heartbeat. How one case of mistaken identity can change everything. But there she was, all business and completely uninterested in me. And damned if I didn’t want her. Crave her.
Most of all, I wanted to help her. To keep her and her sister safe. But the more I get to know her, the more I want her. The whole package. The complete woman.
And the miracle is that she wants me, too.
Trouble is, we’ve both been burned before. Now, I know one thing for certain—the only way that we’ll survive the heat that crackles between us is if we both find the courage to leap into the fire together.

It’s been a few years since I’ve read a book by this author. I figured diving in to a novella would be a good way to get reacquainted with her words. First, this is told in Pierces POV so I was already on board. Male POV is one of my biggest jams. For a novella, where things have to move a wee bit faster, I didn’t mind the insta-love after about a day that Pierce and Jez spent together. They had some pretty good chemistry going on. Overall I thought it was a pretty good story.
Absolutely delightful from the hilarious and kooky beginning to the HEA! Pierce is the ultimate cad who goes into every hook up as a one night stand but his first meeting with Jez is surprising because she is not what he expects. First, she is brass, dominant, and talking about a commitment. WHAT!?! Definitely something wrong here but as soon as she leaves he has to figure out what is going on…and then the fun begins. I highly recommend this one and will be on the look out for the next one as this appears to be the first in a series (yippee!)
It’s a very mellow type of story. Pierce is a man scared to make a connection with woman because of how he was hurt by one. But his instant interest in Jez draws him to want more with her. To try. Jez has difficulty trusting and letting go of control since she has been protecting and managing her sisters life for years. She is feisty and strong. And Pierce shows her how to put herself first. He is tender and attentive with her. And for both of them jumping into the unknown will pay off if they finally find love.
4 It’s On The Down-Low Stars
This one is almost a mix of suspense with a little rom-com thrown in and of course some steam up the high rise windows sex. Pierce and Jez meet under the most unusual of circumstances and I say this because it was a true comedy of errors reading this first meeting. Talk about awkward!! When they’re talking I kept thinking to myself, this doesn’t seem right…something is definitely not kosher!
I was right and when we find out what was really supposed to happen, Pierce Blackwell springs into all alpha-male mode and comes to the rescue! I’m not telling you who he rescues by the way, cuz that’s something you’ll find out for yourself when you read this beauty.
Needless to say when these two find themselves spending a lot of time together, the sparks are flying, igniting and setting their worlds on FIRE!!! But there’s some obstacles in their way; he doesn’t believe in relationships and she’s dealing with some major guilt.
As they work their way to a HEA we get a great story, fabulous character development, which is something I’ve always loved about Julie’s characters and I think a setup for a new series. This book just proves that surprises in the book world are a very good thing!
This book pulled me in right from the beginning! It started out with some miscommunication but the connection was there right from the start. It was nice to meet some new characters from J. Kenner, but there was still a small connection to her Stark books. I also really like that it was told from Pierce’s POV. They both had their walls up, but I felt he had thicker ones, so I loved being in his head.
“What if I break all my rules and let myself succumb to this walking, talking temptation named Jezebel?”

Romance books written in the guy’s first person POV are few and far between, and Julie Kenner definitely nailed it! She has woven an entertaining story in a way that is light and fun. This fast-paced story starts with a bang and a misunderstanding.
Pierce Blackwell has recently launched a security business with a few friends. Jez Stuart manages her younger sister’s acting career and needs to hire a security detail. The context of their first encounter gives rise to a hilarious confusion. Pierce and Jez are engaging characters, hiding their vulnerabilities behind a self-assured attitude. I definitely rooted for them and read their story in one sitting.
This book is the first in a new series. It is lighter compared to the books in the Stark universe. Julie Kenner’s writing is flawless and I loved the great cast of new and secondary characters. This new series definitely has potential, I can’t wait for more. If you are looking for a fun, sweet and sexy story, then this book is a good choice!
Be prepared to fall quickly into the crazy life of Pierce and Jez! From their near disaster meet-cute to their business dealings through to their hot and sexy times, I couldn’t put it down because I had to see where things went with Pierce and Jez.
Pierce is a bit out of his league . . . he’s a player not a stay-er. And Jez is so busy putting everyone else ahead of her own needs, she has no idea who she is at this point or what she wants from life. I loved seeing Pierce and Jez get closer and allow their walls to fall a bit.
Lovely Little Liar is the perfect balance of funny, sexy, snarky, and heartwarming. I had a blast reading this story, it was JUST what I needed to break a bit of a book funk.
Outstanding Book! You will love this story about a feisty woman and a cocky guy! Who doesn’t love a guy who thinks he’s all that.
I voluntarily received an ARC for a honest review.
Wow! There are only a handful of authors who can take a successful series and expand on that series successfully with seamless effort, Julie Kenner is one of those authors in my opinion. I loved Bitch Slap! With the exception of her paranormal series (not my thing), I have pretty much read everything I can get my hands on that Julie has written, and have loved every single one of them. Bitch Slap is a fast paced, full of humor and sassiness, hot characters and it has a connection to her SIN series, which I love! I honestly don’t know how she does it. Her writing is perfection, she keeps the reader totally engaged throughout the story, and the ending is perfect. Loved how Pierce and Jez met, pretty funny, and Jez and Del’s relationship is heartwarming. Kerrie is a great little sister, and I can’t wait to see how the other characters play out in future books (cuz you know Julie will be expanding this series!). This book was a great surprise for us Julie Kenner fans, loved every part of this book. If I hadn’t started this book so late in the evening, would have finished it in one sitting, definitely a real page turner!

Sometimes the best kind of love is unexpected…
Pierce, burned by his ex fiancé, no longer does relationships. Jez, betrayed by a past lover, no longer trusts. Both have fulfilling lives and aren’t looking for anything else.
When a case of mistaken identity brings them together and love burns hot, can two independent people give up their reservations, give up control and give love a chance?
This fun, heat-filled story was previously published as Bitch Slap.
Thank you J. Kenner for giving us this an amazing story! Lovely Little Liar was 5 Stars times ten amazing! Pierce was off the charts all sexy with his Alpha self <3 I was swooning when he and Jez had hit it off and sparks flew everywhere! I did a happy dance when the book was announced and was addicted the minute I started to read the book. I was able to finish the book within a couple of hours and cried for more! There are no cliff hangers, but the craving stayed. I want more Pierce and the Blackwell-Lyon security team.
There was a lot of laugh out loud moments. Come on you read the blurb and you knew there was going to be some funny moments with sass added. Jez and Pierce meet in the most unconventional way. Lovely Little Liar has the humor, the sexiness, the drama, and of course a lot of yummy alpha maleness. I mean did you see the cover? Yup that cover was my focal point with this story.
You will love Jez and her sister. You will swoon over and over for the men of Blackwell-Lyons team. I screamed and jumped when a couple of familiar names were mentioned or made a quick appearance. I love the Stark world and you will recognize a couple of characters. All around this book was everything I could have dreamed of and more. J. Kenner keeps these characters alive and making us beg for more. I LOVE IT!
So let's recap on the book: Lovely Little Liar was a crazy fun read...CHECK. Lovely Little Liar was flaming hot behind closed doors and against the wall... CHECK. Lovely Little Liar shows us some Female Sass.. Double CHECK. Lovely Little Liar brings us a lot of Sexy Times... Triple Check. And last but not least, Lovely Little Liar brings us a confident, lovable, and an all muscle male..CHECK CHECK CHECK CHECK!!
A PB&J never sounded so good!
J. Kenner is back with a short and sassy standalone that is witty, fun, and of course, sexy.
After a date meet-up goes awry, Pierce and Jez manage to meet up again. She’s protective of her up-and-coming sister, and he’s protective of anyone who hires his company. The banter between these two is electrifying and steam up the pages, the back and forth these two did made me blush a few times for sure. I loved the vibrant and well-written characters, and the storyline was unique, it was just a little shorter than I would have wanted.
Great book that I’d definitely recommend to anyone!
This is a super sexy fast read. I loved Jez and Pierce and their first meeting which was irritating and confusing for them, but comical once you learned why they were both there for their meeting. These two both have trust issues and aren’t looking for a relationship, but can’t resist their attraction to each other. These two sizzle! An enjoyable read with a great ending!
I love the fact that J. Kenner decided to give the three co-owners of Blackwell-Lyon Security their own stories, renaming the first book in the series Lovely Little Liar, still getting down and dirty with anti-relationship hero, Pierce Blackwell, and feisty heroine, Jezebel Stuart, while also providing readers with the promise of what’s to come in this newly created steamy trio of books.
Lovely Little Liar is told strictly from Pierce’s perspective, so readers take this lust filled journey with him, witnessing his conflicted feelings about Jez and relationships in general and wondering what he plans to do as we see him breaking his own rules and slowly changing his view on what he wants from women…or at least this one woman who has gotten completely under his skin.
To me, the liar part of the story applies to the hero himself, lying about the fact that all he wants Jezebel for is one night of sex because it’s beyond obvious that a single time with her will not satisfy his lust or need for her, leaving Pierce in an unexpected and uncertain situation – one that he can’t absolutely control, which for a man like Pierce, puts him on tilt and forces him to redefine his usual game plan when it comes to the opposite sex.
Pierce and Jez’s story is a fast-paced read that illustrates the complications of young stardom and the lengths family members go to in order to protect those they love. This is definitely a lust at first sight situation that has the potential to develop into more, but only if Pierce is willing to make an exception to his interaction with the opposite sex and if a plan is developed that allows Pierce to do his job while also taking a chance on having something worthwhile with Jez despite the fact that they live in different states and have trust issues galore.
4 Poison Apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)
4.5 Star Review Lovely Little Liar by J Kenner
This book was originally published as Bitch Slap but not having read it then I jumped at the opportunity to read Lovely Little Liar. This was a fast quick novella that had me engaged from the start to the finish; in fact I would have loved the story to be longer.
A case of mistaken identity winds up as fate for Pierce Blackwell and Jezebel “Jez” Stuart. Pierce believe he is meeting”J” for a one night hook up and Jez believes she is meeting a security specialist to discuss a job. Their initial conversation is at cross purposes until Jez has enough and leaves. It is only after that that Pierce does some digging and realises what has happened.
Once Pierce realises e mix up he realises that Jez was looking to hire security for her sister Delilah Stuart, a young actress who has been vilified in the press recently.
There were some funny moments within this story and I have to say that the chemistry between Pierce and Jez was smoking hot. There are also a couple of mentions of familiar faces from Ms.Kenner’s Stark and Man of the Month series which made me smile.
I really loved the characters of Pierce and Jez, not to mention all of the secondary characters and I cannot wait for the next instalment in this series.
This story is short and sweet but jam pack with perfection. everything happens fast. Its a Insta-first sight LOVE type of story but everything falls into place just right. You’ll have some ups and down, with a bit of drama but overall great story. its told in his point of view which I found very refreshing to only get one side of the story and it coming from the guys point of view and not the girl.
I enjoyed reading this, I devoured it in one sitting. Can’t wait for more.
I love everything J Kenner writes. Her men’s are always the best and her story always take you on the greatest ride and escapes.
Pierce Blackwell was jilted just a couple of hours before he was due to marry. This has left him jaded and distrustful of the whole women and romance thing so he’s decided to concentrate on building up Blackwell Lyon, the security company he set up with two ex-army buddies. For fun and relaxation he uses dating apps where women know the score and his social life is basically a series of one night stands. This leads to him meeting Jezebel Stuart, who’s in Austin with Delilah, her actress sister. However things might not be what they seem.
This is the start of a new trilogy featuring the men of Blackwell Lyon and is a short, steamy read. The characters are well written and likeable with lots of witty dialogue between them and, despite the book’s brevity, the story doesn’t seem rushed or forced. I’m looking forward to the remaining books in the series.
What a fun and sexy read. This is a novella and a short read. J Kenner is one of my favorite authors for writing sexy times. Even though this story is short, it still packs the heat. Pierce is all alpha male who is only interested in a casual hookup. When he meets Jez by mistake, he is taken with the fireball. Jez is in Austin with her sister and ends up needing Pierce more than she thought. This is a short story and the chemistry between Pierce and Jez heats up quick. As with all novellas, I wish it was a longer story, but it was a good read. Good things come in small packages!
What’s a better match than a PB and J? Nothin. Pierce and Jez are definitely not looking for that happy ever after, and their original meeting is hillarious in their confusion. It gets better the more you look back on it. This was short and fast paced, with almost instalove and crazy good chemistry. I loved it.
When I started reading I couldn’t put it down. J Kenner is magnifysent and amazing writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this book. Can’t wait for the next book.
