Jacob Fox, son of the notorious Neil Fox, wanted nothing more than to disappear. There had been a media frenzy during the arrest of his parents and their subsequent deaths, and Jacob couldn’t escape all the negativity surrounding the ordeal. He decided to buy a house in south Louisiana on a private, wooded lot in the middle of the bayou so he could drop of the face of the earth for a while.
He … while.
He certainly hadn’t come to Louisiana to make friends. Unfortunately for him, the neighbors surrounding his property were overly friendly. With the help of his Doberman Pincher, Jacob ran off anyone who tried to welcome him to the area.
That seemed to be working pretty well until he met Alex Martin. She simply wanted to offer a little southern hospitality at first, but eventually she realized she might be the only person who could help Jacob rediscover the man he used to be.

I LOVE this book! I love the main characters and their interaction with each other. I love the setting and the dialogue. I think the storyline is unique and just adorable. I will definitely reread this one in the future!
I absolutely loved the characters in this book! I have already read it twice and will definitely reread it in the future. Such a great story!
This is a sweet story with a bold and compassionate heroine, Alex Martin, who sees the good in the hero, Jacob Fox. Jacob has self-isolated and doesn’t even realize that he is lonely, when Alex tries to be a good neighbor and pushes her way into his life. He moved to the bayou to get away from people, whispers, and the drama that came with his father’s death and his mother’s disappearance. Alex believes she is meant to be in his life. This is a romance between a strong young woman who has faith in God and a young man who considers himself to be broken.
Starting over
Jacob came to Louie to get away from all the bad his parents had done to their church. Cam & Caleb knew him from camp, but Alex felt she needed to get past his barriers. It was great.
Love books by Brooke St James. One of my favorite authors!
Couldn’t put it down!
A book that older teenagers and young adults would like to read. It is a clean storyline taking place in rural Louisiana . You will be drawn into the well developed characters that are easy to follow. The family interaction with each other is marvelous and a nice love story.
This was a good, clean book – nice to have no profanity or sex! The main character was pretty innocent & naive, but kind of funny.
Christian.
Loved the book and looking forward to reading the rest of the series
A very light hearted and enjoyable book.
I like this author and how she points out so many things that can help us with friends in similar situations.
very entertaining and a joy to read
What a woman who refuses to believe the sentence “I want to be left alone”, good things happen. Easy, fun read. Happy ending with few major bumps to conclusion.
This is a cute story. It felt a bit juvenile at times and I don’t really like books that are told in the first person, but it was still an enjoyable read.
I loved this book! It was sweet, romantic, and charming!
Interesting story
As I began reading, I paused not sure about this crazy lady pushing her way into a stranger’s life. But it didn’t take long for me to be hooked.
It was a cute story and a quick read, but the writing was a bit choppy and the plot predictable.
I kept waiting for a plot to develop. The main character was not interesting and silly, giggles a lot. I do appreciate Christian fiction, maybe this is more appropriate for a younger person.
