Another fantastic romance in the Cat’s Paw Cove World.
This story finds us with Rachel who moved away from her hometown to go to college and become a mighty fine lawyer. And leave the one she has always loved behind Why?
He walked away from her without a word.
Javier thought he did what was best for the only woman he ever loved by walking away and now that she is back in town, he is beginning to realize the error of his ways.
Will she accept his apology? And can he handle what lies ahead?
Absolutely darling story of love, mystery, and a bit of paranormal…
Love Overrules the Lawyer is a sweet second chance romance. This is a sweet if angsty tale of two hearts meant to be together, a man doing what he thought was best for her (without discussing it with her), a forgiving woman and the magic of Cat’s Paw Cove. Javi is smooth and sexy if a little too high handed. Rachel has grown up and is an amazing attorney but that confidence doesn’t follow into her personal life. This is a story of growth, forgiveness and new starts.
I really loved how this book made me feel. Full of hope for the possibility of a second chance for Rachel and Javier! It was exciting to see how their relationship unfolded. I also looked forward to reading about the tension between them! Then magical ways of their surroundings sparked my imagination and I felt like I was there too. Very well written!
Love Overrules The Lawyer by Kerry Evelyn is a fairytale for grown-ups. It is the second book in the Moon Mist Manor series but can be read as a stand-alone.
Love does not always run smoothly but it is never too late to have a second chance at a happy ending.
Magical potions open eyes to the surroundings. Not everything that looks good on the surface is golden underneath.
The characters were delightfully drawn. They work together to fight anything that threatens the stability of the island.
Cats Paw Cove is a place to find cats in abundance. As a cat lover, this totally appeals to me.
Love Overrules The Lawyer was another totally charming and magical read from Kerry Evelyn.
I received a free copy from the author. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.
I’d been hearing about the Cat’s Paw Cove series for a while. Met a couple of authors at a signing, but then didn’t think anything more about the series until I came across this story on NetGalley. I decided to give it a try and now I’m hooked. I’m going to have to read the rest of the series!! This is actually book 10, but it can be read and loved without having read the previous nine stories.
Rachel’s life in Atlanta is pretty much over as she knows it. Her boyfriend, someone at the law firm she works at, has been outed as a cheat and a liar. No one knew they were a couple (at his request). She was the beauty on his arm at political events, the one that everyone at the firm wondered about, were they or weren’t they a couple? Then it all hit. He’d been scamming people. He’d also been in another relationship that most of the staff had known about, just not Rachel.
While all this was happening, she receives a call about an interview to head up the campaign for someone she’s long admired in her hometown of Savannah. Taking a leave from work, she heads home and interviews. But it’s not all sunshine and carriages in Savannah though. Even though she’s immediately offered the job, she’s worried about Javier, her first love. How will she be able to be in such close confines to the man who utterly destroyed her heart? After a run in with him, she needs to take time to decide whether or not to accept the job, move back home to Savannah, and be a part of the familiy’s life. One that includes Javier since he’s the chef at her Meemaw’s restaurant. Can she handle being around the man who crushed her heart?
Heading to Cat’s Paw Cove to think things through is just what Meemaw orders. The beauty of the land, the secrets it contains, all comes together to show Rachel what she should do. When Javier shows up to talk her into taking the job, and to also ask for forgiveness, Rachel is put in the unique position of power. Does she accept Javier’s apologies and start her life over in Savannah, or cut ties and run back to the mess she left in Atlanta? While there at Moon Mist Manor fate intervenes and forces Rachel to show Javier more of the world than he’s ever thought possible. After his eyes are opened to a new reality, will he decide that Rachel’s really worthy his love?
This story is pure magic y’all. I love the dynamic between Rachel and Javier. They’ve got so much passion, love, and feelings for the other, but they don’t know how to transition, or if it will even be worth it. When you fall in love as teens, does it stay when you get older? Can a heart crushed by a first love ever heal enough to take that same person back, fifteen years later? Or are they even the same person you fell in love with so long ago? This is a sweet story full of love, family, and magic. I truly enjoyed all the characters, from Ameerah to Puk, Meemaw to Hica. A definite must read for fans of true romance and magic. The writing pulls you in and keeps you wanting more. You’re rooting for true love to win. You want Rachel and Javier to prevail.
**I was given an ARC of this story by Netgalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Good second chance story that takes place in the magical world of Cat’s Paw Cove and Guinevere Island. When Rachel and Javier were teenagers they were best friends, until Rachel confessed her love for him. Javier panicked and ran. He was the boy from the wrong side of the tracks and felt she would be better off without him dragging her down. Javier leaving without a word broke Rachel’s heart. For the next fifteen years, her track record in relationships was awful, with the most recent one being the last straw. She left her job in Atlanta and went home to Savannah, where she was offered a dream job. The only problem was that it would force her to see Javier almost every day. Torn over what to do, Rachel fled to Moon Mist Manor to reconnect with her magical feline advisor, and get some much-needed advice. She didn’t expect Javier to follow her.
Javier regretted breaking Rachel’s heart, but still thinks he did the right thing. He’s never lost the feelings he had for her, and seeing her again stirs them up. He’s no longer the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks. Instead, he is a renowned chef, cooking for the rich and famous and giving back to his community. When Javier’s mother tasks him with convincing Rachel to take the job, he knows it’s also his chance to make amends. So off he goes to Guinevere Island.
I liked the rekindling of the relationship between Javier and Rachel. She was not expecting him to show up at her hideout and was less than pleased that he would have to stay with her in her villa. Having him so close stirs up feelings she thought she buried long ago. Javier is determined to make amends and goes all out to win her over. Things get complicated when mischievous Pukwudgies threaten to take over the island and one of them attaches itself to Rachel. Javier is unaware of the magical side of the island and it takes some drastic measures to get him to see the truth. I liked seeing them get to know each other again as adults as they worked together to protect the island. But even after that problem is solved, Rachel’s emotions are still all over the place. It takes a stern talking to from a fairy to open Rachel’s eyes and reinvigorate her confidence. For Javier, it was a kick in the seat by a cat that opened his eyes. I loved his big moment at the end. It was sweet and romantic and bodes well for their future.
I also enjoyed the family and friends who made various appearances in the book. Family support for both Rachel and Javier is an important part of who they are, as knowing they have that security net gives them a little extra confidence. I also loved the scene with Jordyn and the kitties which showed another side of Rachel and gave Javier a little more insight into her. I loved the scene at the end when the whole family showed up on the island.
