I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I’ve read many of Ms. Knight’s books and I’ve enjoyed each one. This book is the fifth of the McKinnie Mail Order Brides series. I haven’t read any of the other books in this series, but I had no trouble reading it as a standalone. Ms. Knight does a beautiful job of creating the scenes and atmosphere that you get completely immersed in the story and can easily imagine every detail. The characters were well-developed and easy to fall in love with. This is definitely a well-written and compelling story. I was entirely captivated and enjoyed every part of it. This is a lovely story and am happy to recommend!
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
To be honest I requested this from NetGalley because of some fellow reviewers and I loved the cover. This is part of a series about sisters getting married, but although I hadn’t read any of the previous books I had no problem following this story.
Francine McKinnie has survived the burning of her city and most of her family’s home in the Civil War, then a six month journey to Seattle as a mail-order bride to be married upon her arrival. She knows the name of the man she has a contract with, and hopes that he’ll be a kind and gentle man, unlike the Union soldiers who destroyed her home, but that’s definitely not the impression Walter Hunt makes when he finally arrives to claim her.
Walter Hunt has his own stories and scars from the war and now prefers the solitude of hunting to people, but according to the land act he needs to be married in order to get more land. Thanks to his duplicitous twin brother, his mail-order bride’s first view of him isn’t a good one. How can he get Francine to give him a chance to show her what he’s really like?
This mail-order bride storyline was one I hadn’t come across before. Walter and his twin Thomas have issues that run deep. So deep, I didn’t think they’d get resolved in the length of this book. I liked that Francine doesn’t want handouts, and stands up to these feuding brothers, especially when she doesn’t take everything the scheming Thomas says at face value. I liked the moments she’s alone with Walter and can see what kind of man he truly is. I especially liked when they went hunting and then sold the animal skins–the bartering between them of how much of the profit each would get was cute. There were a few twists in the story I didn’t see coming which definitely showed the true characters of each of the brothers.
Whenever I read stories like these I know I was born at the right time for me. I know I wouldn’t have done well in towns that were just getting settled. I would’ve gotten on the next boat to where I’d come from. This is a new author to me and I’ll probably read more books by her.
Francine McKinnie spent six months on a ship to get where she was going. She was a Mail Order Bride. She had come to marry after the war where she lost most of her family. All that was left is her sister and they traded husbands because her lungs could not take a sea voyage.
Walter Hunt was in the Union Army as was his twin, Thomas. Thomas manipulated Walter and most people so he could get what he wanted. When Francine got to Seattle as she was stepping out the door, there was a fight. She had hoped to get a kind man but when one turned out to be her betrothed she wanted nothing to do with him. There are a few surprises in the making. It is a clean story, with all kinds of emotions and love. I enjoyed the tale and I liked the characters and the situations they got themselves into. It was romantic, and with hard-working people.
I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.
This was a beautiful story about honesty and forgiveness. It is a story about a woman, Francine, who takes her sister’s place as a mail order bride because she is worried about her sister’s health and ability to make the long journey to Washington territory. She is betrothed to Walter Hunt. When she arrives, she finds Walter Hunt in a brawl. His twin brother, Thomas, does everything he can to convince Francine that Walter is not good for her. That he can’t love.
Walter was Thomas’ Union commander in the Civil War and Thomas resents Walter and continues to believe that Walter considers Thomas a coward but Thomas doesn’t know or want to believe the true story about Walter. Thomas returned home and married the girl that Walter had been betrothed to. There is such animosity between these two brothers. Adam, is the level-headed younger brother that tries to be a peacemaker. At times, I wanted to throttle Thomas because of his hatred of Walter and determination to destroy him.
There is a happy ending and a beautifully told story of love and redemption. The story is clean with no foul language or graphic sex scenes.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
Can you imagine traveling to a strange place and marrying a man you never met? Well Francine McKinnie only hoped for a calm, good man after enduring the war in the south. She lost most of her family except her sister who she had traded places with on their husband choice. She traveled on a ship to get to her bethrothed Walter Hunt, but finds him in a brawl, filthy and definately not soft spoken or calm. But his twin brother Thomas comes in to save the day. Well, like the underhanded brother he is it seems!
Walter has had a really hard time, once he followed his brothers and set up to own land and do logging. His twin stole the previous woman he was to marry and was trying to take charge.
This is a journey to two people, both having scars from the past who each want a future, but it will be a journey to get there and what a journey it will be!
I really enjoyed this story and look forward to the next in this series.
Can an ex-soldier find happiness with a strong-willed lady?
Francine has endured a trip on a ship to marry a logger. She had switch betrothed with her sister Elizabeth out of love and concern. Now here she was meeting her betrothed Walter Hunt and he was not there. That is not a great beginning then when she does see her betrothed. Now he is fighting and that is the last thing she wants in a husband after living through the abuse by Lincoln’s union soldiers during the war. Francine did the same she did during the war standing up to the union soldiers she pretty much told her betrothed to go to hell. The characters show just the kind of people that helped build the Washington territory into what it is today. I loved the story and the twists the author added it was a brilliant piece. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Book five of the McKinnie Mail Order Brides series a story of twin brothers Walter and Thomas Hunt who are very different from each other, and the woman Southern Belle, Francine McKinnie who comes into their lifes. A well written story that kept me turning pages. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a great read with the characters being well developed and engaging and having plenty of chemistry making this an easy storyline to read.

Sibling rivalry has been around for eons and it is skillfully portrayed in this historical romance by Ciara Knight! Walter and Thomas have been at odds with one another for years and when Francine arrives to marry Walter things come to a head. Walter is basically a sweet gentle, man but when he gets riled-up a volcano can erupt so-to-speak. Thomas is the sneaky manipulative type of individual no one wants as a brother or any form of direct relation. It was so nice seeing Walter and Francine develop feelings for one another and figure out how to make a relationship work amid the scheming of Thomas and the first impressions by both of them.

I definitely enjoyed this novel and was happy with how the story ended. Though I wish I was able to see or read about every one’s happily ever after. Maybe there’s a book 2? I’ll certainly be on the lookout. The novel is not your ordinary romance and this has the most peculiar courtship!
Thomas and Walter are identical twins in looks but not in behavior. Both are vying for Francine’s heart, and at first glance it is very difficult to tell whose motive is pure. Her first meeting with Walter happens when he is engaged in a street fight. It didn’t help that he was unshaven and dirty from weeks of hunting and trapping in the wild – all in all a very poor start that has her unwilling to tie herself to a violent, angry man. Having survived the Civil War, Francine is a reluctant participant in a war between two brothers. The author grabs your attention at the start of the story, drawing out every emotion from the reader as you follow the story of two families and their journey to becoming united. I really enjoyed this tale – love, betrayal, forgiveness and trust are key elements in this book.
A very well written book. I really enjoyed it. And I highly recommend it to all who like good clean reading.
Twins Walter and Thomas have been at odds with one another for some time. It is all through misunderstandings. But Thomas is a liar and will do anything to discredit Walter, who is the gentle teddy bear, except when his righteous indignation is stirred, which Thomas knows how to do. Thomas rushed in to marry Walter’s fiancee after the war, lying to her about Walter.
Francine has signed a contract to marry Walter and goes to meet him. She gets the wrong impression of him when she first sees him as he is beating up a guy. She did not find out the reason, she just made a quick judgment based on Thomas’s lies.
You will have to read this book to find out all the twists and turns and lies and truths to find out how it turns out.

Love on the Sound (McKinnie Mail Order Brides Book 5) by Ciara Knight is a delightful adventure Romance set in the American wild. While, book 5, in the series, it can be read as a stand alone.
Follow, Francine McKinnie, a southern belle, who has suffered through war,
faces a difficult choice, to be a mail-order bride and to live a life as a logging man’s wife.

Well written and well excuted with twists and turns, surprises, where truths unfolds, loggers, and misunderstandings that take on a whole new feud between twin brothers. Which will truly win Francine’s heart? The cast of characters are definitely surprising, engaging and believable. Entertaining adventure, Historical Romance, with an intriguing storyline.
Ince again, Ms. Knight has written a story that is both compelling and satisfying. An absolute delightful Romance. Fans of Historical Romance, American romance, mail-order brides and powerful love. A must read, a quick read to me. I read it in one setting, couldn’t put it down.

Francine McKinnie is a strong southern young lady who has survived through war and losing her home and family. The love these sisters have for one another is such a strong bond that they will do anything to make sure each is taken care of. To see her survive through six months of travel to meet and marry the man who will give her a home and children is so very courageous. Her strength allows her to not settle into marriage but to live in the wild territory and become her own provider just shows her true character and honor. This series by Ciara Knight has been such a reminder of how women back then were not given much of a voice back in those days when it came to how their adult life should be but Mrs Knight has shed light on how it could be when they choose their own paths and become better women for that. Grab your copy today of these stories and be ready to enjoy each and every story she tells us.
A delightful adventure story with a side of romance. The only intimate scene was a chaste kiss on the forehead. Francine is a mail order bride travelling to Washington Territory from the South to escape her family’s destitute situation after the war. After her experience with rough and rude soldiers during the war, Francine is hoping for a loving and caring husband. When she lands at her final destination, she meets 2 brothers; one of which is her husband. But which one is he? The polite, gently spoken Thomas or the big, brawling brute, William? I like strong female characters so Francine fit the bill. After all, she would have to be strong to move so far away from her family to marry a man she didn’t know. And she stuck to her decision to be independent instead of a biddable wife. I’m really enjoying this series.
I received a free copy from the author. This is my unbiased review.
Francine had plenty of courage standing up to Union soldiers during the war and traveling west to marry a man she’d never met before. I don’t blame her for not wanting to marry someone who came off as a rough unwashed mountain man, who she had just witnessed fighting and who she was told was only marrying her for land. She was a tough girl choosing to work instead of marry and hunting and dressing animals. I wouldn’t have had the stomach to do that, but it’s a different world back then. Walter’s brother Thomas came off as a manipulator. I didn’t like him, but I wasn’t sure about Walter either using his fists to settle arguments until how sweet he was with unwanted baby Esther.
This is a must read book, very easy to read, also. Even though it is part of a series, it’s a stand alone book. I kept wanting to shake Walter and tell him to calm down and stop fighting against his brother and things would go better with Francine. I was so wrapped up in the storyline and was sad to see it end.
I really enjoyed reading this book!
It’s a heartfelt & emotional story.
Francine McKinnie, traveled across
the sea to meet her groom, Walter Hunt.
Feeling quilty about trading places without
her sister’s knowledge.
What she did not know when she arrived,
was the struggles she would have to go through because of two Hunt brothers.
I loved this Must Read Story from beginning
to the end!!
