After quitting her job at a high-profile magazine in Boston, idealistic journalist Shelby Porter retreats to her hometown of Crane’s Cove, Maine, to regroup and refocus. As the pastor’s daughter, she’s welcomed back with open arms and opportunities to serve. However, the solace and support from the townspeople isn’t enough to soften painful memories or bring her closer to her goals. Shelby’s … plans run up against another obstacle when the new guy in town walks into her life. Despite their connection, she resolves to not let love get in the way of fulfilling her purpose.
Tragedy drives Detective Damon Saunders from his job in Atlanta to the tiny resort town. Wanting to escape the ugliness of the big city, he now patrols the peaceful streets of the seaside community. The hardest part of his new role is earning the trust of the locals—especially Shelby. He’s drawn to her quiet strength and desire to help people, but she has plans that’ll take her far away from the place where he’s trying to plant new roots. Maybe falling for her will complicate his life, but he’s willing to take that chance.
Shelby denies her growing feelings for Damon, but when her four-year-old nephew is in danger, he’s the only one who can help. Can Damon overcome the shadows of his past to save a child and win her—and the town’s—heart?

Shelby and Damon’s story is so relatable to many of us! Such wonderful characters and all the feels !!! This was a new author to me and I’ll definitely be following from now on because I truly loved this book so much!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another sweet love story with two likable main characters trying to find their niche in the world. Both have things in their past that they need to deal with before moving on but they help each other to move past. Like book 1, this couple share their experiences to help each other heal. Love this setting and the side trip to visit GA. Lots of wonderful other characters that show up in other books as well. A wonderful read.
I loved this story and the people in it!
The story of Shelby and Damon is by far now my favorite of this series. This story covered the spectrum in emotions and feelings; happiness, sadness, fear, love, and faith. I found myself rooting for Shelby and Damon from start to finish. Their story is told beautifully through friendship, their faith, and true feelings of love.
There are so many incredible lines of dialogue and conversation between all of the characters in this book. I felt as though I lived in Crane’s Cove and was part of this group of family and friends. Lines of bible verses and personal meditations are weaved into the storyline by the characters in a lovely way that enhances each character and made me love them even more! While it is clear these characters have a strong faith in God, this story does not come across as preachy or corny in any sense. Everything written and spoken by Shelby, Damon, and others fits perfectly into the situation and scenes between them.
Shelby is a strong, smart, funny, and beautiful woman inside and out. Her past family losses have caused her to create a wall around herself and her emotions but this doesn’t deter Damon from breaking it down and building a relationship with her.
Damon is incredibly kind, caring, obviously handsome, and extremely swoon worthy with his sweet nickname for Shelby. He also has past experiences that have caused him stress and sadness of which helps him to relate to Shelby and makes their connection even stronger. Some of my favorite parts of the book were the scenes with them, on dates, and the adorable exchanges including gentle kisses, light touches, and sweet words. The descriptions of the book stores they visit made me want to go to there! Picnics, time on the beach, kayaking, and a moment at a gazebo were all wonderful to read about in this story as well.
This book is a definite must read and one that could be read many times over. Its positive tone and feelings of love and friendship make it a true feel good story and retains its real human feelings with real life experiences and tragedies.
I am hoping to see future stories of characters we received only peeks about in this book, such as Rachel and Javier. I would also love to see a book of Meemaw and her husband, how they met, etc. Numerous strong characters in this book, and the entire series, makes them all that much more fun to read and follow along with in their journeys of life, love, and faith.
