This love story of two strangers who meet under unassuming circumstances. Matt Grayken is a young, wealthy dying man. Mikaela Compton is a young nurse in his care. Matt proposes to Mikaela and agrees to a friendship marriage to be his caregiver and legal voice. The two fall in love and Mikaela must find a miracle to save Matt’s life. A beautifully written sty of love and compassion. This is the second novel from the Grayken series, part of the Great Expectations Love stories. Really enjoyed reading this novel by Laurie LC Lewis.
The premise for Laurie Lewis’s latest book is quite thought-provoking on its surface: what would you do if a stranger approached you with a marriage proposal, a stranger that has just learned of his third occurrence of leukemia? It sets the mind racing, that’s for sure. But before I had a chance to even dwell on the concept, I was swept up into the story, my senses keen to find out where this book was going to take me.
It didn’t take long to get invested in the characters. Mikaela and Matt are so vividly drawn by their own words and the way they are affected by the circumstances they now find themselves in. Though they both have plenty experience with cancer—Mikaela as a cancer nurse—being married is something new for both of them. And having a marriage based on a business arrangement leaves both of them unsure of how to treat each other.
What they have going for them is their sincere desire to help each other. Through their courtesy and kindness and mutual respect, they grow to know one another. Falling in love is not part of the plan, but as they find out, you can control who you fall in love with.
I got completely wrapped up in their struggles—their fight to beat cancer for the third time, their dilemma over how much to tell Matt’s parents, and their own feelings about their marriage based on a mutually beneficial arrangement. The story was raw and difficult and tender at times, heartwarming and heartbreaking in others. It’s no wonder the book has gotten such rave reviews—it will definitely find a place in your heart!
This author has a way with words that just makes you feel like you’re a part of the journey. These two start off with a marriage of convenience but as they spend time together and get to know each other it’s time for the truth to come out This journey isn’t an easy one. I mean we all know that it’s a life and death battle. The power of love and prayer and yes a few miracles are needed and sent up. The touching part of this story isn’t the not knowing, it’s about these two who in spite of the odds they find true unbridled love. Despite the odds they fight for that love with support and strength and family. It isn’t conventional but it is special. I love this author’s take and yes I am guilty of shedding a few tears. It’s a beautiful story with a couple you will pull for and pray for and cheer for.
I love this book. The first I read of this author and finished it in two days. Highly recommended!!
Matt is young, successful and dying of cancer. He needs an advocate to step in with hard decisions while not being emotionally attached. For a while he’s watched compassionate and beautiful nurse, Mikaela and decides she’s the one. He comes up with the idea to have a marriage of convenience where he will have support as his health deteriorates and in exchange she will have financial security after his passing.
There’s only one problem. When she agrees to marry him and they are suddenly in close proximity everything is blurred by his own emotions. She is so much more than he bargained for. As his illness progresses his heart and his head wage battle. Is it fair to her to follow his feelings? Should he continue to try to keep the tenuous wall between them?
This is a tender story of selfless sweet love and the hard things families with cancer deal with. A wonderful story that has you enthralled to the very end.
This is an incredibly romantic, well written book. It is filled with joy, love, pain, hope and perseverance, and it will leave you with a full heart and a happiness you will relish. I absolutely adored it, and will certainly be reading many more things by this talented author.
Love on a Limb by Laurie Lewis is heart-wrenching tale of two strangers, who need each other. Matt Grayken is young, wealthy and dying. Mikaela Compton is a struggling nurse. Matt proposes to Mikaela, a perfect stranger, asking her to just be his friend and companion, a nurse when he needs it and his voice at the end when he can no longer make the decisions. Love is not in the equation but it has a way of sneaking up when you least expect it. Mikaela gives Matt a new reason to fight but he needs a miracle. She realizes that her love for Matt will cause her to go out on a limb to find him his miracle. Make sure you have a box of Kleenex handy when you read this story. I wasn’t sure what to expect but Ms. Lewis wove this story together so well. You could feel the pain, the agony and the love poring from the pages. Death is such a delicate subject and not one most of us cares to read about. Matt and Mikaela’s story, draws you in and doesn’t let you go. I wasn’t ready for the it to end. I can’t wait to read more by this author.
I received this e-book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
