Blinded by the past, it takes a little fate and great faith to be liberated and set free. Where you fly is up to you… man who dumped her without any reason when they dated in high school. She accepts his offer of a place to stay, knowing she could trust him with anything other than her heart.
David, a member of the White Mountain Fire Department, is tasked with the controlled burns needed in the NH National Forest after a particularly dry winter and spring. While out marking the territory with Kojack, his dalmatian, he runs into Ashley, who’s on a mission and quick to tell him how to do his job.
Ashley’s been called upon by the Audubon Society to verify the reported sighting of a pair of eagles and to look for a nest. The eagles are protected under federal law, but without proof they are nesting nearby, David has a job to do. A job that will protect the public far more than protecting an unverified eagle nest. Ashley will do anything to stop him, including seeking an injunction and rallying a protest. Just when David starts to compromise on both the controlled burn and his no-relationship rule, disaster strikes, reminding him why he made the rule in the first place.
David soon realizes his mistake, but will Ashley give him a third chance? And is she does, will the third time be a charm?

Love & Liberty by Elsie Davis is the 6th novel in Holidays in Hallbrook series. Each book can be read on its own, but I just love this delightful series and recommend reading each one. I thought the story was well-written and engaging. It is a sweet, romantic story with great characters and a charming small town. There is a precocious 4-year-old Cody that will have you smiling and laughing. Love & Liberty is a charming story about home, second chances, redemption and love.
Ashley is a single mom with a four-year-old son who has returned to her childhood town of Hallbrook with a job from the Audubon Society to find the eagles and possible nest which would verify a reported sighting of these birds that are protected under law. This is so important to her as it would lead to some wonderful career moves.
David, Ashley’s older brother’s best friend and one of the fire chiefs, comes back into Ashley’s life when her apartment burns down. They had not parted on friendly terms when she left the community to go to college, so when David offers her and her son housing in the apartment on his property, she is skeptical, but has no other option.
Major conflict arises between the two as Ashley’s place of scouting for the eagles is exactly where the fire department is going to conduct a controlled burn. The author brings these characters into the reader’s group of family and friends so much so that the reader becomes part of the story. I recommend this book either as a stand alone or part of the Hollidays in Hallbrook, Books 5-9 Collection.
Good storyline and we’ll developed characters. Also, I’m a sucker for second chances and am glad David and Ashley will potentially get a shot at theirs. There is a lot of past to get thru as well as current obstacles, will they be able to overcome all?
The narration was well done.
I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author and I am voluntarily leaving this review.

Elsie Davis takes back to Hallbrook in Love & Liberty the sixth (6th) book in the Holidays in Hallbrook series and bring us a story of betrayal, redemption and renewed love. Ashley and David were best friends growing up and a situation broke them apart and they went their separate way. Coming back to Hallbrook wasn’t part of Ashley’s plans but a convenient healing spot after a bitter divorce for her and her 4-year-old son Cody. After a fire that burnt down the rental she was in, she started living in David’s garage apartment and began to heal the broken parts of her that had been shattered both by her ex-husband and David. Little Cody is the link between the adults, but how much can a 4-year-old do? You would be surprised. It was a well written and fun book to read. I must read for the person that wants to believe love can come around a second time with the help of a child.
After a bad divorce Ashley Stanton moves back to Hallbrook until she finds a new job, with her son Cory, who is four. She is doing volunteer work to find the nest of bald eagle. Her exhusband had taken most of her money. Her brother, Trent loved in Hallbrook too.Trisha,a close friend from high school came to visit. While there her house she was renting caught on fire. When the fire truck arrived ,a black truck arrived. It was an ex boyfriend from highschool. I love this story and was given a ARC of this book.
his is a very well written, clean, sweet, heart-warming and entertaining romance with a little drama thrown in.
Highly recommend.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I really enjoyed this book. The dialogue between Ashley & David is just right. The best part for me is the search for the eagles, Ashley’s son & the dalmatian dog. A great feel-good story to enjoy. I received an ARC. This is my voluntary review.
Hallbrook has proven to be an interesting place to live. Wildlife photographer, Ashley, has returned to her hometown following her divorce to try to find and photograph eagle(s). Love of her life and former boyfriend, David, appears when she has a devastating fire at the house she is temporarily renting. Things will go about as you expect, except they don’t. This was a fun story to read and I can recommend it.
I love these books set in Hallbrook. Ashley and David are great as they reconnect, but my favorite characters were Cory, Ashley’s son, and Kojak, the fire dog. Ms. Davis’ characters always resonate with me. Come along for this journey as David seeks to protect the community he loves and Ashley searches for an eagle. The warmth of a small town shines in this engaging book.
ASHLEy is back in Hallbrook with her four year old son. Divorced, without a job she has volunteered to find a white eagle in the White Mountains but her plans will collide with the ones with the Fire Department to make controlled fire in the same area. CAn Ashley fight back David, the love of her life and the man that be okey Hera heart when he left for college? He is the firefighter in charge of the controlled. Can they rekindle the love again?
This is a really sweet, romantic book about second chances, true love, going home, and life after divorce. I really liked Ashley and her adorable little boy, Cory as they try to make a life in Hallbrook, New Hampshire until a better job comes along. I am ready to move to Hallbrook. The people, the hiking trails and the festivities made the book so much fun to read. Throw in that cute, sexy firefighter, David who just so happens to be Ashley’s ex-high school boyfriend and it looks like their fire is still burning or at least has some embers ready to light into a fire. All of that had me hooked right away. I could not put the book down. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
A story about a photographer, a firefighter, and a little boy. This is a wonderful storyline and has a town full of friendly characters. Ashley and David knew each other since they were young. This book has drama, danger, suspense, love, and chemistry. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and gave my honest opinion.
Wonderful story that touches your heart. Loved it. Must read.
The characters were really well done.
Their backstory and interactions were believable and the dialogue natural.
David’s harsh rule makes a lot of sense based on the evidence he had, and his plan to *show* instead of tell was excellent.
I struggle with this rating as I have enjoyed this authors books before and the over all story is good, it’s just I disliked the main character. Ashley was self centered and everything had to be about what she wanted. I could not figure out why David even tried as she rebuffed any kindness he did. The theme of accepting second chances and not letting the past define us is well done
