Love doesn’t come with a syllabus.Kelly Davidson has waited forever to graduate high school and get out of his small-minded, small town. But when he arrives at Hope University, he realizes finding Prince Charming isn’t so easy. Everyone here is already out. In fact, Kelly could be the only virgin on campus. Worst of all, he’s landed gay campus Casanova as a roommate, whose bed might as well be … might as well be equipped with a revolving door.
Walter Lucas doesn’t believe in storybook love. Everyone is better off having as much fun as possible with as many people as possible…except his shy, sad little sack of a roommate is seriously screwing up his world view. As Walter sets out to lure Kelly out of his shell, staying just friends is harder than he anticipated. He discovers love is a crash course in determination. To make the grade, he’ll have to finally show up for class…and overcome his fear that love was never meant to last.

Lots of moments in this book are lovable. The characters are adorable too. A simple feel good quiet romance with a dash of heat and happily ever after. Although set in college, there are depth to the story all age would appreciate.
Good story. Good narration.
This book was packed with emotion. The characters had very distinct personalities. Even the supporting cast were interesting.
The plot was multilayered, and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect for the end which I did enjoy.
My one disappointment for this book was the bully jocks living in Kelly’s dorm. No specific character was created. There was just a dorm full of bully jocks. I was an athlete in college. I was also a science nerd, a comic geek, and a book nerd. I didn’t bully anyone, and my locker didn’t smell like sweat. I know the jock stereotype exists for a reason, but I couldn’t find a good reason in this book.
I really liked most of the book. I appreciated how the author explained the perils of food allergies and asthma which I am all to familiar with. (Yes, athletes have asthma and allergies too.). I also appreciated the insight into Walter’s family life. That was a very well constructed situation that I can say from personal experience is far to realistic.
Overall a well written and emotional book. If the author had not relied on a negative stereotype to construct part of the story, I would have considered a five star rating.
Love, love, love Heidi’s writing. This story is a bit slower paced than previous books of hers that I’ve read, but it was so worth the time. Kelly is everything good and sweet; a bit shy and unsure. He’s not experienced in relationships but romance of the Disney variety is his goal. I liked watching cynical Walter change. He’s so self assured to other people but so lost and broken inside. His revelation that Kelly is was he wants, what he needs and who he loves freaks him out and gives him a sense of peace. The side characters are wonderful as well. The last two chapters are ovation worthy. Bravo, bravo!
Highly recommended author and series
Until the 50% mark, this was sitting at a solid 3 stars. Not because the writing wasn’t good–it very much is. But because even though Walter and Kelly want totally different things–Walter’s a wham-bam-thank-you-sir kind of guy, and Kelly wants a relationship worthy of a Disney movie–Walter made some moves on Kelly in the beginning that made me hugely uncomfortable.
Once they got together, however, things changed, and I got the sappy, mushy, totally sweet, character-driven story I was looking for. I liked that it kept me guessing; I was never really sure what Heidi would put Walter and Kelly through next or what would happen to them as individuals or a couple, but I thoroughly enjoyed the ride there, and the over the top epilogue put the cherry on top.
I’ve read this author before. I listened to the audio book. This is a MM contemporary story set in the USA in College. The story is about Walter and Kelly starting off as room mates and finding each other in the end. I’m looking forward to more from this series.
