Valerie Dearborn wants a cotton candy life, but it’s more like a puffer fish: pointy, unusual, and — if not prepared exactly right — deadly.
In London for graduate school, Val knows she’s finally free. Her father and ex-almost-boyfriend are back in California and she’s out of the Vampire hunting biz for good. Or is she?
She draws the attention of Lucas, a 1600 year old Vampire, and King to … Vampire, and King to his kind. He’s also wicked hot. As golden as Lucifer, and just as tempting, he makes Valerie an offer she can’t refuse — help him find out if the Others (Empaths, Fey and Werewolves) still exist or he’ll stop protecting those she loves.
Lucas tells her that Empaths were a Vampire’s biggest weakness before going extinct hundreds of years ago. While the Fey or a Werewolf might kill a Vampire, an Empath could enslave them, seducing or harming with emotions at will. The one detail he leaves out? Valerie is an Empath.
And after 1600 years of an emotionless existence, Lucas wants Valerie like a recovering alcoholic wants a wine cooler.
Can she keep those she loves alive, stop Lucas from munching on her, survive a fanged revolution and still find a way to have that boring, normal life she’s always wanted? Probably not, but boy is she gonna try!
This is a full length novel and contains adult content.

I loveed it!!
And I cannot wait to read more!
I think that the book was rushed and i didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought i would. But the author has an amazing way of explaining and bringing theses characters to life. She can bring the characters to life while keeping an interesting scene. It would make a better movie than book.
I didn’t know this book is more of a dark romance when I started it. It was a well written book but I didn’t care for them.
The classic love triangle between a vampire hunter she grew up with and the ruler of vampires….interesting…
Unrealistic. Characters evolve in an odd way. Book rushes the story, but then ends unresolved.
Absolutely loved this, it’s not like your usual vampire book, which is great. Now I just need to save up for the other books in the series.
Again…..loved the book, just sad it’s a series. There were parts that were predictable and even breezing through, i was still able to follow the progress of the story as if I read every word. I love the vampire and possibility of all other fantastic beasts eventually appearing in the rest of the series.
This was a good beginning. I couldn’t wait to get to the next book.
This book kept me coming back for more. Not my typical read but the dynamics between the characters were well thought out and showcases complicated relationship to the max. I’ve already bought the other two books in the series to see what happens next
Fun read. Well written. Left me interested enough to want to read more from this author.
I never thought I would like this type of book but I found out I was wrong! Bring on the next one!
Loved this book would read it again
A little slow to start and it leaves you hanging so that you want to buy the next one but I will buy it.
The writing in the beginning of the book is somewhat amateur, but becomes more polished as it progresses. Fun characters asan overall good read.
I TRULY LOVED THIS BOOK VERY HARD TO PUT DOWN
Loved the writInvite style
I did NOT expect this book to be so GOOD!!!! I couldn’t put it down!!! the synopsis does nothing for it at all !! it was WOW WOW WOW WOW !!! It will tease and poke at EVERY EMOTION you have and intensify some that may be dormant!!!! It is NOT the now TYPICAL vampire story, it’s a good old fashioned one with a BIT of a modern twist. Don’t …
Heroine was foul mouthed and stupid. You should have one or the other not both. Lucas vampire, was supposedly enigmatic but came off as high-handed. Even then, he was way more mature than Valerie. And then there was the kind of ex, Jack. Their relationship was …dumb. No one actually examined their own feelings despite all the internal dialogue …
The story starts 15 years in the past and slowly brings us up to present day. I enjoyed the way the author brought out the details of the story and the interactions between the characters. With each scene you could feel the tension between Valerie and Jack, and once Lucas enters the picture everything gets kicked up a notch.
This was a wonderful book. I fell in love with the author’s writing style. I have now gone on to purchase the next book in the series. I rarely do that as I am currently under a tight budget.
