I will not kill my boss. This is the mantra I tell myself every day. Because I know I won’t survive jail and orange clashes with my strawberry blonde hair. It’s just for the summer, Emily, it will fly by. Lie. Time has stopped. He is probably controlling it to torture me.You are working in the South of France. At least there is wine and cheese. He is the artist of our generation. Before he became a … the artist of our generation.
Before he became a washed up has-been whose ego is bruised, and now he’s self-destructing with wine and women.
He’s hot.
Okay, well I have nothing.
The man looks like Michelangelo carved him with his bare hands. And that French accent, those soft lips, and that giant um…never mind. It’s still connected to him and no amount of magnificence can take away that it’s connected to the biggest jerk in history.
So, I tell myself again. I will not kill my boss.

This is my first book by this author and it sucked me in in no time. I absolutely loved this story and the characters. Emily is extremely easy to like, Louis is…he’s a complex man. Having been betrayed Louis is a mess, there’s no other way to describe him. Going on benders, a different woman every night, the things he’s gone through and lost are affecting his art and this is where Emily comes in. Emily is fresh from a break up and thinks working in France is going to be everything she wants and more. She’s not expecting the cantankerous, drunken artist that greets her. But she’s more than up for the job and she’s going to need every single bit of that determination if she’s got any hope of getting through to Louis.
I loved this story. It flows perfectly. It’s emotional, hot and beautifully written and I can’t wait to read more books by J.A. Low.
I’m so in love with this book. I loved everything about it. Yummy hero, sassy heroine, some dark times and lots of steamy sexy time.
As I started to read this story, I felt like I had read it before. It had a shadow of something I couldn’t quite grasp. As I got further along, I realized it’s because it has what I enjoy in a good story. Emotion, depth, weight, angst and more.
A delightful read, full of humor, heat and emotions! Emily and Louis are two people in the stages of heartache, Louis a little deeper and darker, having lost his muse, a broken artist. Emily spent five years with a clueless man who didn’t know what he had. Now Emily has been hired to clean up Louis dumps. But when the muse strikes an artist, they must follow. Prepare for laughs, cries and heart swells Great read!
Never have I ever met a more heinous hero!!! This book is brilliant.
There are so many adjectives to describe one heartbroken and betrayed Louis. From an apparent male-skank, through to rude, vulgar and disgusting, he was such a completely loathsome creature that even his brother had almost given up on him. After walking in on his wife and Yves, an artist he’d rescued off the streets and had been mentoring, Louis lost the colour and inspiration in his life, drowning in women, disgusting behaviour and alcohol. Watching blurry eyed, while Yves and his ex-wife continued on to take the art world by storm.
As a last ditch attempt to get him to tidy up his life and reputation, his brother Daniel hired him an assistant to help him organise and paint a collection for one exhibition, one last chance to show the world that he is not the sum of what his ex-wife had created, but an artist who is still every bit as celebrated and renowned as he was.
Emily is at a crossroads in her life. Just when she thought her boyfriend of five years was about to propose, he instead drops her with a bomb that he wants a temporary break to explore his affair with an overseas colleague while she lifts her game and elevates her potential in life thus making herself worthy of consideration as his wife. An evening of drinking with her girls results in the successful application to assist an artist in France while they prepare for an exhibition.
JA Low is an artist with words. She created a picture of two betrayed people, and set them amongst a story that is everything from witty and comedic through passionate to sombre and heart-breaking. Just awesome. How she wrote a broken Louis, who was a complete and utter creature to all around him, and rehabilitated him to be even more of his former self, was a beautiful journey. Same for Emily, as we discover her own difficult background and life experiences. I loved her. She was such a strong young lady in spite of everything, and, she took every challenge from the offensive Louis and ramped it up a notch, much to his surprise and anger!!! Emily absolutely took no prisoners.
It looked like Louis was going to succeed, and Emily was rediscovering gifts that she’d lost over the last five years, until the former student who got his wife, sets his sights the woman who is with him now. And it seems he’s not liking no for an answer.
This book ticks so many boxes, that it’s easy to highly recommend to those who like hot French artists, passion, wit and comedy mixed in with a touch of suspense coloured with Karma biting the deserving on the ar$e!! I loved it. 5 Colourful Stars.
Emily Chapman was expecting a proposal. Instead, she was dumped by her live in boyfriend of five years. Now she needs a new job and a new place to live asap. When she is offered the job as an artist’s assistant in the South of France for the summer that gives her both a job and a way out of London for a few months, she jumps at the chance, even without knowing just who the temperamental artist is that she will be working with.
Louis Marchant does not want an assistant. He just wants to be left to wallow in a drunken haze after his wife left him for the younger artist he was mentoring. Even though his brother who also happens to be his agent insists that Emily is exactly what he needs for managing his social media and keeping him on track to meet the demands of his upcoming show, Louis has other ideas. And, playing nice and making Emily’s job easy isn’t one of them.
Emily and Louis clash like oil and water . . . but their passions also burn exceedingly hot. And, you know what they say about that line between love and hate . . . Can Louis and Emily both move on from past failed relationships with cheaters to give one another a chance or will remain on opposite ends of the spectrum with Louis wallowing in the darkness and unable to give in to the light and sunshine that Emily embodies?
I absolutely adored Love in Colour! It’s a rollercoaster of emotions and experiences from deception and despair to passion and love and everything in between. Louis Marchant really is a big jerk of a temperamental artist to his new assistant. He’s beyond hurt and stuck in the past, obsessed with his cheating ex with seemingly no way to break himself out of his funk. But Emily isn’t one to lay down and take things as they come. She knows Louis is brilliant and she is not going to squander the opportunity she’s been given. She gives Louis just as good as she gets and their passions simply can’t be contained.
This couple truly needs one another. They balance each other perfectly, providing one another with the support and love they need to flourish. J.A. Low did an amazing job creating these characters as well as the stunning backdrop this story is set in. There are some dark undertones in this book that really add to the depth of the plot and give readers a really intense story they can sink their teeth into. Emily and Louis do not have an easy relationship, but watching them work through everything life throws at them is so very worth it! 5 stars!
Let me start this review by saying I was a JA Low virgin before I read Love in Color by JA Low, and what a way to pop that cherry, with a phenomenal love story with all the feels!!!! It has taken me a while to write this review because I want to make sure I do this SPECTACULAR book justice with my review without giving anything away.
I love a book that has a large palate of emotions, it is my favorite type of romance book, one with ALLLLLL of the emotions, everything from laugh out loud comical parts, to anger to the point I wanted to… Stop! No spoilers. Back to the feels list, jealousy, and OMG the hotness factor, ladies!!!! I will say this, I want a Louis of my own. Well, maybe not at the beginning of the story, he was a realllll as…. PG, keep this review PG, donkey butt at the beginning, but his true colors came out throughout the story.
I loved this story and again in my opinion Louis and Emily are meant for each other. Emily and Louis are both coming out of a relationship with someone else, and certainly not looking to get into another, buuuut….. It’s a romance ladies, of course there is a “but”. Emily had some things happen in her past that has kept her from falling into a real relationship, but it only took the right person to bring down her walls, and let her fall in love, “real” love, and Louis was that person.
Thank you, CJD for bringing me in the book group on FB and introducing me to this wonderful new author (to me) JA Low. I have definitely found a new author to love.
Thank you, Ms. Low, for sharing your phenomenal story writing skills with your readers. I look forward to reading more of your books in the future.
Thank you for reading my review.
4.5 Stars
If you love an emotional, intense and at times poignant story Love in Colour is the book for you. Louis and Emily’s story is heartfelt, romantic, and dramatic, but also sweet and sexy.
Louis is a complicated and enigmatic hero. At times egotistical, self centered, cantankerous, broody and surly and self destructive, you don’t know if you want to slap him or kiss him. Despite his obvious faults he’s also quite passionate, and loveable.
Emily is timid, vulnerable and insecure after a brutal break up. But working for Louis she quickly develops a backbone, and we see her inner strength shine. She’s strong, determined, caring and very loving.
The chemistry between this pair just oozes off the page, and their connection is intense, passionate and full of heat. Their banter is often argumentative but also flirtatious.
From the very first chapter I was captivated by this heartfelt story of moving on after loss, and much like JA’s previous books I highly recommend Love in Colour.
This was the first book I had the privilege to read by this author and it did not disappoint. The characters were amazing and very relatable. The story was absolutely wonderful!! A great read!!!
I’ve got to start out with… WOW!
A beautiful story of two troubled souls helping eachother heal all the while falling in love.
I adore the story line and enjoyed the twist and turn along the way.
Definitely recommend!
Love in Colour by J.A. Low a five-star read that will bring colour to your life. This story has it all, passion and drama and a history that would break any sane person, Emily deserves a medal and to be honest she may get some of what she deserves but you have to read the book to find out, I am not giving spoilers. All I will say is that I loved this story and my heart went to Emily, I know for sure I would have murdered her boss long before she did, and I wouldn’t have given a 3.5 I would have given a 2. Thank you J.A. Low for being an amazing author I cant wait to hear more about your writing.
Another brilliant book by one of my favorite one click authors! Louis is so swoony! And his French accent is uber hot in my head lol. I really loved the chemistry between these two and the angst of trying to get through their trust issues, both of them so stubborn too! They had so much in common, such kindred spirits, it was quite refreshing that two people who had been through so much could still find each other. Just the perfect weekend read!
What an emotional, beautifully written must read! Penned in such vivid detail, Emily and Louis’ story completely pulled me down into the pages of this book. Watching how timid and insecure (understandably so, you need to read this and find out why) Emily was at the beginning and seeing her grow, becoming more sure of herself and getting a backbone was great. I loved how dark, broody and unbearable Louis started out as but Emily got through the darkness and brought out the best of him. I loved the comparison between life and how it influences art and the artist that creates it. This book isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, there is darkness that counterbalances the story and makes it just that much better. This is the first book that I’ve read by this author and I’m glad that I did! I recommend having a box of Kleenex and setting aside a few hours as once you dive into this book, you won’t want to put it down.
Love In Colour would have to be one of my favourite books from JA Low to date. Louis and Emily’s story is full of dark moments that will lead into bursts of colour. Two people who have been drawn into the black will need to see the other for what they are, a kaleidoscope of colours that will bring them into the light. Their relationship is fiery, at times the words spoken are hurtful that cut deep, but it is the healing that they possess for each other that will turn the shades of grey surrounding them into a magical colour filled sunrise. The story will take you on a journey filled with downturns, revelations, expectations and a love so raw and pure. Their story is emotional, action packed, sexy, flirty and oh so steamy. If you want a book that will take you from the darkest moments and bring you to a blinding light that will fill your heart then Love In Colour is a must read.
Copy received for an honest review
I was hooked on this story right from the start.
Emily and Louis’ story is not always an easy one. There were times when I wanted to nut punch Louis and then drown him in his pool for being such an ar$e, however he was a lovable ar$3hole.
I loved that Emily didn’t put up with his BS, and could set him on his butt with only a look. The sass is strong in this one, and it made me love her more.
This is an emotional story, it was smart, it was funny, it was loving.
There are some horrible secondary characters that I couldn’t wait to see them get what they deserved, however there was some wonderful ones as well. I need to know more about Loius’ brother and about Emily’s friends.
Hopefully we will get more stories about these people in the future. Please Ms Low, make it happen!
Loved Louie and Emily together, loved the early days of their relationship, loved the banter back and forth. Loved how strong, funny and take no sh*t kind of girl Emily was. Both needing an escape from real life and past relationships , they found that with each other. This was my first book by this author and it defs won’t be the last. Loved every single page.
Truly truly enjoyed this story, this was my first read by this author and I’m definitely going to be reading more. Louis and Emily’s story flowed so well constantly building keeping you spellbound with its English/French telling, emotional angst, steamy chemistry, and twists and turns. I fell in love with how descriptive everything is making me actually visualize the story and love these characters
This book was everything I needed and wanted out of a book it was romantic, heartfelt, dramatic and such a good story line and not what I expected from JA Low and I would have to say it’s one of my favourites from her.
There was so much to this book, it certainly made you want to travel I loved how we were in London the the south of France then Ibiza it made the story exciting and I loved how the story flowed.
Both Louis and Emily had heartbreaking experiences and things in the past they wish they both could forget, but I loved the way they both had Thier walls up and tried to break each other’s down. Louis was broody and nasty at the start and I wasn’t sure if I was going to like him but I knew I wouldn’t have to worry because the way JA Low writes I knew I would love him by the end, he is a very passionate man who feels a lot and protects what’s his.
.
Emily was sweet who just needed to find herself again and I really enjoyed this character she wasn’t annoying or some damsel in distress she was such a sweet character trying to find her place in the world.
This story was everything and more, it was sweet but sexy without being too dirty like we are used to from JA Low, there was drama and storylines that made me keep reading and not want to put it down.
Absolutely loved everything about this book everybody’s life should be lived in colour and I finished this book with a smile of my face and feeling so happy. Big huge 5 colourful stars
EMILY AND LOUIS ARE THE PERSONIFICATION OF LOVE IN COLOUR!!!
First, let me say, I LOVE the cover for this book….It looks like a portrait painted on a canvas….which is perfect for the book, LOVE IN COLOUR. And I pictured the hot model as Louis Marchant through the entire book…I always love it when I can do that……
It is so obvious to the reader…Louis Marchant and Emily Chapman were meant for each other…it just takes a while for them to get there…They have had similar pasts and they find each other when Emily accepts a summer job as an assistant to an artist in the south of France ….When she arrives at her new job, the “temperamental” artist she will be assisting, is world-famous Louis Marchant…Her bubble of excitement soon bursts when she realizes her surly “favorite author,” is “rude, crude and socially unacceptable”….And even more gorgeous than Emily knew, with the biggest……EGO, she has ever seen….She knows It’s going to be an interesting…..and a BIG HOT summer!!!!
I loved every page of this book….
