Love Comes Softly introduced the characters of Marty and Clark Davis, whose tragic circumstances brought them to a “marriage of convenience” on the frontier prairies during the mid 1800s. The story of how Clark’s patient, caring love mirrored that of the heavenly Father, drawing Marty to faith and to love, has captured the hearts and imaginations of over one million readers on Book One alone!
This is such a sweet book. Gives you those warm and fuzzy feelings. If you want to read a cozy love story, then this is the book for you.
I’ve wanted to read this series for a very long time. I found the full series at a garage sale and grabbed them up quickly. I made it my goal to read this series this year. After finishing book one, Love Comes Softly, I can’t wait to read Book two, Loves Enduring Promise.
I’m not going to do a regular review on this book because I feel that most …
Wow, what a read! I loved this poignant story so much!! Janette Oke can always be counted on to deliver a beautiful faith-filled story. She is a classic author in Christian fiction.
When I was in primary school, I read ‘Love Comes Softly’ about 5 times, and I absolutely loved it. As I got older, I really wanted to read it again so I obtained it …
This has an unexpected beginning which leads to a uniquely interesting result. The book was made into a movie but the movie does not keep to the book. Read the book by all means. The series that stems from this is neverending for those who love life-long relationships with their characters.
A lovely story about faith, patience and a growing love. It is a good portrayal of pioneer life. The book of course is different than the Hallmark tear jerker version. An uplifting heartwarming book that will still pull at you heart, but without all the Hollywood bells and whistles.
This is the first book in the Love Comes Softly series of books. It’s kind of ‘slow’ in parts but once you finish it you will understand why the author wrote the way she did. You end up loving and becoming a part of the neighborhood-family that is within the cover of this book. Reading this book opens the door to the next book and you won’t be …
I’ve seen the movie several times on Hallmark and always enjoy it. But I wanted to read the book since they are most always different from the movie. In the movie, Clark’s daughter Missie is much older. The scene in the movie where Marty finds the horse that ran away in the beginning of the book. Then gets trapped in a sudden snow storm, didn’t …
This book has delightful and yet tragic moments. Death of spouses brings two people together in making a home for a toddler. This is the mid 1800’s but there was never a mention of where this farming community lived and worked. They had a strange vernacular which everyone spoke. They weren’t illiterate as they read, lived clean lives and were …
Best series ever!
Beautiful story of God meeting this scared and amazing woman right where she was at. Grief stricken and alone. Clark is such an amazing man and wonderful depiction of God with skin on. Funny, romantic, interesting and yes I cried a few tears too. I recommend! Even better than the movie!
Thank you to JustRead Publicity and Baker Books for providing me with a print copy to review. A positive review was not required nor am I being compensated for this review. This is my first introduction to the series and to this book.
“Love Comes Softly” covers the tragic pairing of 19 year old Martha “Marty” Lucinda Dandridge with Clark Davis. …
Read this book years ago and the ones that followed. All were beautifully written
Just like the title this story develops as it goes along but is not the typical “both love the other but don’t want to say it” story. Characters are precious and always thoughtful of one another. Beautifully done as always.
Janette Oke basically set the standard for modern Christian fiction with this book, which set off a series that I devoured forty years ago as each book was published. She followed some excellent authors like Francine Arnold and Grace Livingston Hill, but Love Comes Softly opened the genre to a huge market by opening our hearts to learning how to …
I loved the book!
Great book. great series!!!!
Loved these books in the series!!!
I read this entire series years ago. I think I have read all of Janette Oke’s books.
This are very well done and probably a good glimpse of what life was like at that time. Realistic, clean and sweet.
Love her books
Loved the series which I read several years ago.
