A clean and wholesome Regency romance, Love at the House Party is the third book in the Women of Worth series. It can be read apart from the series or enjoyed in proper order.

There’s not too much character depth in this first person POV story, but we do get to see the relationship between the main character and her supposed intended, and the growth of her friendship with the other guests.
She’s got interesting things happening around her. I loved the H speech at the end that brings about their HEA… yeah, he bumbled his first attempt, but makes up for it later.
I started two different regency books at the same time and this one totally took over my attention from the start. There’s almost a gothic quality to the story. It’s romantic without being cheesy about it, and I couldn’t predict, and therefore couldn’t wait to see how things would unfold.

Widow Eleanor Wheeler had married into misery and although widowed was still of marriageable age. If fact with her desperate situation and a sister to care for, she must marry or then they may be penniless and homeless. Mr. Bancroft offers her hope if she can get her mother’s approval. At the house party Eleanor discovers a displeased Mrs. Bancroft and a very interesting, personable and irresistible Marquess.
This is a wonderful historical romance between two people who had rough pasts and who are trying to please others rather than themselves. The characters are complex with many layers, complete with strengths and weakness. The narrative is from Eleanor’s point of view giving insight into her past experiences, her thoughts, her motivations and her actions. The dialogue was interesting. The romance was well crafted with touching moments, internal struggles and external obstacles. I enjoyed the emotional drama. If you like historical romances with strong female characters and handsome heroes, you will enjoy this book.

This is the first novel I’ve read by this author. Originally I had a hard time getting into the story because of how similar it was to other stories I’d read lately. While not wholly original, the story was really well written. The characters were engaging and had good dimension. I felt connected enough to the story to know I was missing some subtleties as far as side characters went and found myself looking for other books the author has written. Happilly, this is book 3 in the series, looks like I just upped my growing tbr pile.
Mrs Wheeler was left to tend to her sister. Brother was a drunk and made them live as poor can get. Mrs Wheeler decided a house party was just what she needed to go to. Until that dreadful day after all her talks with Lord Stallsbury. Miss Thornton blabber at dinner party about the secret meetings. She left but her life was changing for the better after her brother died and she found a man who loves her.
New, author to me. Read the entire series. Never a sordid love scene. Maybe a kiss once per book.
Introduces a bit of seriousness in the interactions of yesteryear’s social interactions and makes it feel real.
Very clean sweet regency novel. There are interesting characters and I liked both the heroine and the hero. The story was slow at times. One of those books that I liked but didn’t love. Definitely worth my free book. And I might try other books by this author in the future.
My favorite of the series so far. I loved the late night conversations and the perspective of things from a widow determined not to make the same mistakes.

This is romantic, entertaining and sweet. Lord Stallsbury is charming, flirty and cheeky. Mrs. Wheeler is determined, impulsive and insecure. After coming out of mourning for her husband, Mrs. Wheeler is determined to get herself and her sister out of their brother’s home. She is contacted by a gentleman, who courted her years earlier, but never got further because of the deaths of her parents. She figures that Mr. Bancroft is her best chance at a decent marriage, which means her sister would be able to make a good match, so she agrees to go to the house party he invited her to. Lord Stallsbury is there to check out a guest that he is considering for marriage. One night very late, Mrs. Wheeler goes to the library to find a book to read, but ends up in Mr. Bancroft’s study, which was already occupied by Lord Stallsbury. They end up talking for a while before she goes back to her room. The next night they repeat it, then every night. There’s a bet made, unexpected guests, an engagement and other twists that keep the story interesting. I really liked Lord Stallsbury, but he’s too laid back and oblivious. This is the 3rd book in the series, but you can read it as a standalone without missing anything.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
I’ve really liked all her books. It had some good twists and angst as to “what will happen!” without being cheesy. I enjoy the tie-ins with the other books and characters. Good story, writing, editing and characters make for a great read when I want to escape.
Mrs. Eleanor Wheeler had worked hard to get some dresses made and to make over some older dresses, they were for a house party she had been invited to. She had hoped that she would be engaged to Mr. Bancroft so that she could leave her brother’s house and take her sister Charlotte with her. On the way to the house party her carriage broke down would you and she was rescued by Lord Stallsbury and Mr. Andrew Peterson and taken to Bancroft Manor. It was raining horribly and Eleanor lost her shoes in the mud. When they arrived the only thing they had with them was what Eleanor and Emma her maid were wearing and was sopping wet. Mrs. Haley Mr. Bancroft’s sister said she would have a bath prepared for Eleanor and bring her something to wear. Mrs. Haley was about 4 inches shorter than Eleanor and Emma took a piece of cream-colored fabric to make it long enough and she put on a pair of slippers which were too small and pinched her toes. After breakfast she returned her room to get her bonnet and discovered a package she unwrapped it were a pair of shoes that were just a little too big she changed her shoes and went to participate in an archery contest. She was the first one to shoot and didn’t even make it to the target the last one to shoot was Lord Stallsbury and he shot shorter than she had so that she could take the next shot which she shot the wooden easel that the target rested on. Then it started to rain again as they ran for the house she discovered that her trunk was finally there so she changed clothes. That night after she went to bed she decided she wanted something to read so she went down to what she thought was the library and found Lord Stallsbury seated there and they got to talking. This happened several times before she found out that it was Mr. Bancroft’s study but she continued to go speak with Lord Stallsbury. She discovered that Lord Stallsbury father had demanded that he get married that season her he was going to cut him completely off and kick him out of the house. So they made a bet on which one would become engaged first Eleanor or him. To find out what happens, who wins the bet read the book. It’s a very good book…
Eleanor went to the house party with the intention of becoming one mans wife, she fell in love with Lord Stallsbury. And he fell in love with her. After fleeing from being shamed tgey finally got their HEA. Interesting characters with a fun and intriguing story.

The third book in the Women of Worth series and a book I was not putting down until I finished reading it. Eleanor Wheeler is a widow she meets Lord Tarquin Stallsbury they will have a lot to get through before they get a happy ending. I enjoyed reading this story.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Eleanor had been invited to Mr. Bancroft’s house party. She was determined to make a good match to help her sister, Charlotte. Mr. Bancroft had shown an interest in her during her Season in London before the death of her parents, but she had married someone else and was now a widow. She would never marry again unless she could be certain that of her husband’s affections and temperament. Mr. Bancroft was a good solid match. There was nothing extraordinary but nothing bad, either.
While at the house party, there were other characters, some that Eleanor knew and some that were new to her. Among the group was Lord Stallsbury. Eleanor and Lord Stallsbury develop a secret, but discreet friendship that could ruin both of their reputations if it is discovered. The more time they spend together, they begin to discover that they may have feelings for each other, but it would never work. Eleanor is there for one purpose only, to gain a proposal from Mr. Bancroft to help secure her sister’s future.
This story has depth and great character development. I love that each book in the series tells a different story but with some of the background characters and their stories from the other books. You can read each book in the series independently and you will find a great story.
This story is a clean regency romance with no foul language or sexual encounters. I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly and honestly offer my review.
Mrs. Eleanor Wheeler went to the Bancroft Manor house party hoping to secure a proposal of marriage from the host and save her and her sister Charlotte from the ruin her drunken brother created. But she has to deal with spiteful women and a future mother-in-law who has told her to her face that she dislikes her and would make her married life unbearable if she married her son. There is also Lord Stallsbury, whom she is attracted to and secretly meets nightly in the study to have discussions. I didn’t like Mr. Bancroft who was self-important and tried to control Eleanor from the start. Tarquin, Lord Stallsbury was an interesting character, irreverent and clever, but slow in realizing his feelings for Eleanor especially in the face of scandal.
This was the 2nd novel that I was allowed to read by Mrs. Kasey Stockton and I fully enjoyed the way in which she has an eye for a period in England where values and norms reign. Where a woman and a man (single) should keep appropriate distance.
Charlotte has a supporting role in the story “Love fot the Spinster”, but this story is about her search for love. She is invited to a home party by a former admirer and hopes that he will ask her to marry him. Not that she loves him, but he can bring the stability she desperately needs, also for her younger sister. During the party she meets Lord Stallsbury, a Marquis. She meets him by accident, late in the evening, in the study. Even though she knows it is against the rules and can lead to a scandal, she continues to meet him in this way.
During the house party she starts to get her doubts about her former admirer but she still accepts his marriage proposal. And then …… well, every reader should discover that by reading this book himself !!
The structure of the story is nicely done. I personally thought it was a long time before the romance took shape. Many other people who were introduced to the story, which I personally found no added value, so that I sometimes found it somewhat lengthy.
You can read this book as a standalone or in the series for some background information.
I have received a copy from the author and am leaving a review voluntarily
I would recommend this charmer.
If you like Regency romance, you will enjoy this one. You will enjoy Eleanor Wheeler’s story she needs to find a way to get out of her brother’s influence for both her and her sister. Lord Stallsbury or Mr. Bancroft are her choices who will she choose. The story is well-written with a great flow and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend this charmer. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
