Dr. Montgomery completely had my ovaries exploding!!! When Deacon meets Clare at a resort on her “honeymoon” he never intends to fall for her. Clare was left at the alter and meeting a man on her “honeymoon” wasn’t in the cards.
This story had me swooning through the whole. From the very beginning I fell in love with Deacon Montgomery. The man that he is and that single father that he is. I loved his dedication to Clare and really wanting to give what they have a shot.
The story is well told and the characters are well developed. There were quite a few times I got butterflies when Deacon would talk to Clare. These two had me falling head over heels for their story. I absolutely loved it!
Clare is disillusioned with love, all the guys who said these words changed their minds later and the last one was even worse. When deciding to go alone for her supposed honeymoon, she ends up meeting the mysterious veterinarian Deacon.
Deacon is focused on work and family but also feels the same connection to Clare and decides to live this new experience with her. Both create rules for the relationship but end up realizing and wanting more for each other.
Unfortunately, things do not happen as they planned and Deacon will need much more than declarations of love to be able to prove to Clare that love exists and that it is worth fighting for.
I love Claudia Connor’s writing, always with romantic dramas with happy endings. This time, she comes with a beautiful and sighing love story proven and so sweet and real that I want to be part of it on someway.
The most interesting of this reading was to accompany a passage of the book listening to Memory in the voice of Barbra Streisand and to notice how an excerpt of the song fit perfectly a passage of the book.
Touch me,
It’s so easy to leave me
All alone with my memory
Of my days in the sun
If you touch me,
You’ll understand what happiness is
Look a new day has began…
So beautiful, is not it?
I’m too suspicious to talk because I love this song and now it is going to remind me of this book everytime I listen.
I loved the cover that was the one that most attracted me to the reading, I only read the synopsis after I received the book and I loved that the synopsis does not let pass anything of the plot ahead. It was a pleasant surprise to fall in love with Clare, Deacon and the children.
5/5 stars
Love At Last was an enjoyable read. If you love a single parent romance than this is one that you should read.
I found the storyline and characters fun and easy to connect with. This isn’t my favorite book by this author, but it was one I will still recommend to other readers. My biggest and really only negative about this book was that I thought it dragged on for too long. I felt it could’ve been shortened. I was really enjoying the book until about the 30% mark and then from there I felt the storyline could’ve been condensed. I felt the author could’ve used a time jump at that point to keep the flow of the story going. But once we got to about the 55% the storyline picked up again and I was enjoying the story much more at this point. I will say that something happens towards the end of the book, that I thought could’ve been left out. I didn’t understand why she threw that bit of drama in there. I didn’t feel it was needed.
Love At Last is Claudia Connor’s newest standalone novel. It is told from Dual POV but in the third person. Usually with a story told in the third person I feel like the story is being read to us and I usually don’t connect with the characters as well, but that was not the case with this story. I connected to the characters and their emotions just fine and I didn’t feel like I was being read the story. I thought the flow of the story was ok, and the pace was good, except in the middle when things dragged a bit. This truly was a very sweet romance story.
We follow Deacon and Clare in this story. Clare has just been stood up on her wedding day and heartbroken, she decides to go on the honeymoon alone. This is where she meets Deacon, who is there for a convention. Deacon is a single father of twins and a veterinarian. Clare and Deacon quite literally bump into each other and the chemistry is instant. Both throwing caution to the wind they decide to take some “me” time and strike up a fling. That is until an emergency call from home takes one of them away unexpectedly. Leaving the other one to question what happened. Can Deacon and Clare reconnect?? What happens if they do find each other and secrets are revealed?? Can these two find their HEA?? Read this book to find out.
I would recommend this book to fans of Claudia Connor and to anyone who likes a single parent romance. The girls in this story were just too adorable for words. I wish we would’ve seen them even more throughout the book.
I fell in love with this author’s books when I read the McKinney Brothers series, so when I saw the blurb for this book I was immediately on board to read it as well. Love at Last demonstrates perfect that sometimes life’s unexpected detours lead us to exactly where we were meant to be.
Clare knew when she was dating Adam that he was the safe option; he didn’t exactly set her on fire, but they had fun and fit well together. She never expected him to come to her ten minutes before they were set to exchange vows to tell her he met someone else and to call off the wedding. Stunned and humiliated, she decides to go by herself on what should have been their honeymoon to escape and try to figure out where it all went wrong. It doesn’t take long for her to realize that her lack of a broken heart is telling her exactly the reason it didn’t work out, but it doesn’t make it any easier to be around newlyweds at the all-inclusive resort. On her first night there, a mini-disaster almost strikes when she gets her heel caught on the pathway leading to the restaurant and she nearly falls right into the koi pond. Fortunately one very sexy veterinarian is nearby to catch her and save the day. Deacon is attending a conference at the resort and asks her to have dinner with him, but his initial reaction to her tells him this may be the beginning of something big for both of them.
Clare has a tendency to overthink everything, but she finds herself taking a chance by spending time with Deacon. He lights her up in a way no man ever has before, and those few days turn out to be some of the best of her life. It all comes crashing down when Deacon has to leave unexpectedly for an emergency back home. Their decision not to share details of their lives away from the resort comes back to bite them both when they have no way to contact each other and Deacon’s note that he leaves for Clare never makes it to her. Fate has other plans for them though so they have not seen the last of each other.
When Clare and Deacon do finally make contact again, everything has changed for both of them. They still have undeniable chemistry, but essentially they are two strangers who spent a few wonderful days together. Clare’s tendency to overthink and over-analyze everything threatens to derail any future they may have. Deacon has been determined to find Clare again though and he is not going to let her keep him at arm’s length for long if he has any say in the matter. His two twin daughters are absolutely adorable and brought another level of charm to the story that I loved!
I don’t want to say anything further about this story so that I don’t spoil it for anyone, so I will leave you with this. If you are looking for a contemporary romance with wonderful characters and plenty of sweet and heat, then you definitely need to get your 1-click on for Love at Last!
I discovered this author when I read the first book of the McKinney brothers, and readily because a fan.
This book is another example of Ms Connor’s talent.
The story belongs to Clare and Deacon.
Clare is about to walk down the aisle, when her fiancé tells her he met someone else. Devastated , she decides she will go on their honeymoon solo. At the resort she meets Deacon , who is there for a conference. Their accidental meeting leads to a few days of bliss until he leave suddenly and Clare is left feeling abandoned.
What follows is a story that will touch your hearts. It’s heartbreaking , touching and at last heartwarming.
It’s a story about how past experiences do affect our present actions and reactions. A reminder that actions have consequences and that if given a chance, love can heal the heart and the spirit.
A story worth your time. Can’t wait to see what else this talented author has in store for us.
