(Better Date than Never series, Book #1)
Ellen may not believe in storybook love, but it’s about to rewrite her life . . .
Ellen’s figured out that finding the right guy is all about compatibility. That’s why she signs up for Detailed Dating—the local online dating scene in Sacramento. They ask men the hard questions, compare their answers with hers, then she filters through the profiles of … the profiles of each provided “match.” After numerous email exchanges, she narrows it down to two promising candidates she’s excited to meet in person.
When Ellen’s best friend asks her for a favor, dog-sitting leads to disaster and Ellen ends up at the local vet where she meets a man she can’t get out of her mind. Henry isn’t a logical choice, but she finds herself paying for dog obedience class to spend more time with him.
Ellen knows that in order to have a lasting relationship, she should take the safe route and go for one of the pre-screened guys. But, how can she think with her head when her heart keeps begging her to give Henry a chance?

When you think you have your love life figured out and know exactly what you want, fate throws you for a loop. That’s exactly what happened with Ellen. I couldn’t stop reading because it was sweet but funny how she thought the “safe” man was who she should be with. I wouldn’t be able to resist the sexy Henry either.

Love is not about being perfect on paper, it’s about what is in your heart. Discouraged about men and dating, after a bad breakup, Ellen signs up with a dating app and has narrowed her choices down to two men. After weeks of emailing back and forth she is reading to meet them. Then when taking her friends dog to obedience class and meets Henry and his shy rescue dog. Henry is sweet, funny, and cute and she is immediately attracted to him. But she doesn’t trust immediate attraction anymore. She believes that two people should be perfectly compatible so she goes on her dates, but while with the men she can’t stop thinking about Henry. But these men were perfect according to the app. Should she take a risk on Henry who she knows nothing about, or pick one of the men from the dating service? Cute and sweet and fluffy. This story is really quite light-hearted, but at the same time it takes on the big topic of expectations – both our own and those of others. There’s an old saying I remember hearing somewhere that amounts to: when a human plans, the gods laugh. Ellen’s dating experiences are a pretty good example of this. I loved watching Ellen learn that you can’t plan for everything, and that sometimes the best things in your life are a little different than you thought they’d be.
Ellen is looking for a compatible date for herself by looking on the internet. She narrowed it down to ten men and then down to the top two. She used a point system to get her a 100 percent match. She had been e-mailing the two men to find out more about them. She thought she had done a good job, but did she?
Henry had a stray pup that he adopted. It needed to be trained, so he decided to take a class at the local vet office. As he was waiting for the class to begin, a frantic woman came in the door. She thought her best friends dog was dying. Henry came to the rescue.
Will Henry be a good match for her or should she move on to someone else?

This was an interesting story with a unique premise thst I very much enjoyed. The main female character, Ellen, was determined to plan out her dating match so that she would guarantee herself a HEA. (Not the multiple heartbreaks that her mother and friends experienced.) Yep, on-line dating was the way to go for her all the way. There was even a guy she was ‘seeing’. Only problem with that plan, Henry. Henry, the mystery man she met when she took her friend’s dig to the vet. She knew so little about him, but she felt natural around him. Ugh! This was not part of her plan.
With everyone telling her what is best for her, will Ellen decide to listen to them, or will she take a leap of faith and listen to her heart?
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest, unbias review.
This is such a good romance. It is real, full of emotion and terrific characters – people and dogs. I recommend this book for all romantics especially those who put their trust in fate.

This was a very sweet, cute read. I adored the relationship between Ellen and Rachel (best friends). The quick witted comments and some were snarky really made the story seem so real. The interest that Ellen feels after meeting Henry while goes through on-line dating, really felt like it could have been a movie starring Meg Ryan. I really sped through this story as it was charming.
The only negative for me was that it didn’t have a dual POV. It would have been nice to see his side of things but I understand why it wasn’t included.
This is a quick read that is sweet and clean. (They kissed at the end!) I would recommend this story to anyone.
I found this book to be a very enjoyable read with the good storyline and great characters that kept me totally enthralled until the turn of the very last page!
I liked this book. The storyline was cute, a bit over the top and yet, I thought it had a hint of realism to it as well. This book focuses on Ellen and Henry. Ellen was an interesting character. In some ways I felt she almost seemed a charicature of a woman fearing the ticking of her biological clock and one tormented by emotional anxieties and a wounded heart caused by her mother, her childhood and from witnessing far too many failed relationships. On the other hand, she seemed real and relatable. I’ve known women like her. They are so sure that if they combine logic, with a lack of emotion and have total control of the situation, they will find that love they’ve been searching for and been denied. I liked Henry and found the whole, should she listen to her head or her heart question entertaining.
I enjoyed reading this book!
