Ended abruptly. If you don’t read the next book , you are lost.
It was well written. I loved the characters, even those I only saw once or twice. It kept me interested from the start.
I liked it so much I bought all the others in the series and am reading #2 now!
Lori Ryan, I now am following you and have become a big fan of your writing!
I enjoyed the action combined with the romantic twist to it.
As hard as some parts were to read i am aware that this happens but the recovery little by little was impressive
4 stars
What an adventure in this book! In reading these pages, I saw the violence, witnessed the run and felt the healing. Laura lived a life of abuse that was ignored by those who knew it was happening; she cried but no one listened; and, then he was gone. What was her future now: was it shame, freedom or escape? I loved this book as it kept me glued to the story-line.
Laura and cade find each other
he stands by her as she fights for her freedom
great read
4.5 stars. This was my first book by this author, but won’t be my last. Such a sweet read. Laura is on the run, from her deceased husbands family, trying to protect her unborn baby. I know, I know, for all of you that don’t like the deceased spouse books, but here’s the thing, her husband beat and abused her terribly….so he’s null and void for me. She didn’t love him, she was scared of him, so in Sue’s world…he just doesn’t count. Anyway, the doctor that knew about the abuse helps her and she ends up on a ranch in Texas with the everyones future book boyfriend, Cade, who is about the sweetest damn thing, all while still being all man.
This was a great and safe read for me. No om or ow drama. A little pushing away from her, as you can understand. Just the story suspense. Great storyline and supporting characters, including the animals. I adored Red, just sayin. This was a bit of a pg read for me, but I still loved it, it just didn’t need it for me to be wrapped up in the book…which I was. Couldn’t put it down. Maybe a trigger for some with her past abuse, there was a scene that broke my heart. An epilogue and an hea. I loved it and look forward to reading more from this author, especially in this series. Psst…I saw that the next book is the sheriff’s…you’re welcome.
I received an ARC copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This easy to read book does not have the more complex plots of the
Sutton Capitol Series but the groundwork is there for a strong series of stories. I like a romance with smart, confident female characters and Laura may have started as a mouse but ended as the mouse who roared. Cade and his family are the charming loving wise family who take her in. There was an introduction of several female and male characters who I’m betting will make up the remaining stories in the series. The writing is Lori
Ryan’s blend of fun and sass and flirt. She writes dialogue well. The scene in the diner where Cades buddy is eating Cade’s lunch was hilarious. She also writes @ssholes well and there were a few in this book. Of note, the cover is really misleading -Cade is neither law enforcement nor ex military so the guy holding the semi auto on the cover threw me when I was reading Cade’s backstory which had neither in it.
