Love and Other Wild Things is book two in the Mystic Bayou series by Molly Harper and Narrated by Amanda Ronconi & Jonathan Davis.
With the Mystic Bayou series we are treated to two POV’s, hero and heroine. I like this set-up for the series. As a standalone romance, it can be enjoyed without reading book one first, however the world building and overall series arc are established in How to Date Your Dragon.
Danica is an energy witch and a headstrong woman who knows what she wants. The mystery surrounding her is a little dis-jointed and not set up well. The dynamics between her and Zed where great.
Zed is a bear-shifter, major of Mystic Bayou, and a sweet and caring guy. I like his friendship with Bael. I loved how he respected Danica and her space and was also straightforward with her about what he wanted.
Dani and Zed experience a mutual attraction at first meet, but both must meet a balance. Dani is dealing with financial issues and trust issues while Zed knows she’s his mate and he must take it slow. We continue to dig deeper into the rift and its mysteries. The ending is sweet and yes, predictable, which isn’t necessarily bad.
Narration: We are treated to a duel narration, with Amanda Ronconi reading the parts told in Dani’s POV and Jonathan Davis reading the parts told in Zed’s POV. Honestly I loved Jonathan Davis and wish he could have narrated the whole book. His voices where the best and appealing to my ear. The voices that Amanda Ronconi did for Jillian and Dani sounded similar as did Bael and Zed, which caused confusion and it took away from the story, which slowed things down. These two narrators styles and sounds are so different that it took time to readjust to the narrators when the switch came.
In the end, I enjoyed Love and Other Wild Things. I like the mystery around the rift and Mystic Bayou and the romance is sweet and adorable.
Rated: 3 Stars
So Zed was a bit of a dufus in the first book so I wasn’t sure that I’d enjoy this one.
However, I did. Zed was still a dufus but you got to see other sides of him, so that enabled me to enjoy it more.
So an entertaining read.
I didn’t love this second book in the series quite as much as the first but I still really enjoyed it. There was so much world building in book one I’d definitely recommend reading it first even though technically this is a standalone. I loved Zed in book one and again in this book and I really enjoyed his sense of humor and the banter he and Dani had was perfect. The steamy parts are hotter than sun and I loved that Dani wasn’t shy or embarrassed by her sexuality. She was awesome and exactly the kind of heroine I enjoy. Smart snd badass snd just as much a person to be reckoned with as the hero. On to book 3 now!
4.5 Stars. Great characters who’s friendships are strong and relationships even stronger. This was a fun lighthearted book, with some sex. I like that the characters from book 1 are also in book 2. I certainly enjoyed this book.

Series: Mystic Bayou, Book 2
Book 2 continues the series with a new employee coming to the town. The rift is getting bigger and they brought in a witch to help monitor and control the rift. Someone once her to stop, or die! The Brown bear shifter has got his eyes on her! A fun, sexy, but with a mystery, read with supernatural characters! Great narrators!
Mystic Bayou is a tiny town hidden in the swamps filled with shifters, witches, and all other kinds of supernatural creatures. The rift that keeps the town was built around is becoming unstable and threatening the town. Energy witch Danica Teel has been sent to Mystic Bayou to try and fix the rift. What she doesn’t expect is to fall for the bear shifter mayor, Zed.
Mystic Bayou is a unique and fascinating town and I would love to visit it. I love that with each book we learn about new types of creatures and abilities. It’s always fascinating. Danica is an energy witch and can manipulate the energy around her. She has a fascinating ability and I really liked her. She was smart, sassy, and direct. I also loved her llama obsession.
Zed is a protective, yet sweet, bear shifter. I really liked him. What I really liked about this story was how even though he fell instantly for Danica he still had to work for it. His attempts at wooing her were cute and sometimes hilarious. Zed was one of my favorite characters in the first book and I am glad to see him find his HEA.
Goodness, I’m enjoying this series. I really like the world that Molly Harper has created with Mystic Bayou. In this installation, she tells the story of Zed, the bear shifter mayor who was introduced in the first book. And we’re introduced to Dani, a consultant to the League sent to Louisiana to study a mysterious rift.
I really liked Zed. He’s laid back, friendly, loyal, protective. He’s an alpha male, but not that over protective A-hole kind… one that’s definitely more likeable (at least to me). He knows he’s found his mate when he meets Dani and he’s not afraid to pursue her. And then you have Dani. She’s not looking for a relationship as this job is just a means to some money to help her family and she’ll then move on. But she’s drawn to the relentless Zed and the community she’s in.
Throw in the mystery around the town and this magical rift to shake things up a bit. Well, I was drawn in and couldn’t stop listening… needing to know what was going to happen next.
The narration by Jonathan Davis and Amanda Ronconi was once again spot on. I enjoyed the accents and voices and found the pacing to be just right. I’m finding that I really enjoy the dual narration as it seems to help bring the stories more to life.
I can’t wait to dive into book 3 to see what new characters Molly Harper thinks up and what odd situation in Mystic Bayou to throw them into. Well done!
Audiobook: Narrators – Amanda Ronconi and Jonathan Davis
Another great narration! While some of the novelty of these narrator’s voices lessened for me with this read (I missed Zed saying in that lazy voice “My great-great-great-great-great-great-granddaddy” this time around he rushed to get the title out) it still gave me all the fun of the way these narrators added their own twist to the dialogue. As a result, what I would never “read” in a certain way, suddenly came to life and added a whole new level of fun to an already fun story.
I was excited about Danica because she arrives in Mystic Bayou already carrying her own power. Zed, being a bear shifter obviously won’t be gaining anything from the rift. So, right from the start, this story took me by surprise.
I loved how Zed was so frustrated by trying to gain more from Danica. He’s just an all around fun hero that had me grinning from ear to ear. As big and burly as he is, the fact that he takes baths with bubbles and has a rubber fish to play with while doing so, endeared him to me more than I already was.
This is fast paced and has some seriously sizzle as this couple start out pretty quickly. I totally did not see the ending when it came time to the “bad guys”. The town characters are still just as quirky and in your business as they were in the previous book and I fell even more in love with Mystic Bayou.

Wow! This second story of the Mystic Bayou series by Molly Harper is just as good as the first! I listened to this audiobook from audible. The narrators do a great job with all the characters! I felt the characters feelings and that’s what you want to accomplish- right!
Dani comes to Mystic Bayou to help out with the rift. It seems to be literally ripping and having a major effect on the population around it. Dani is an energy witch and hopefully can repair what damage is being done. Why is it getting bigger??
Mayor Zed is a bear shifter and is quite taken with Dani once meeting her! He’s all sexy and cuddly! She’s open to an affair with him, but nothing more. She has responsibilities back home that aren’t going to just fix themselves! Her plans are definitely short term. Zed is determined to change her mind though and stick around in Mystic Bayou!
Quickly, Dani is on someone’s radar and they want her dead! She is noticing increasing damage to the rift even after she’s repaired some! Who is undoing all her hard work? And more importantly, who is out to get her and why??
This series is so intriguing! I love all the different shifters cohabiting in this town! Something special indeed! The drama and suspense is there! I was super tuned to hear what was gonna go down! I am looking forward to another chapter that’s for sure! So good!
I loved it. It is typical Molly Harper, funny, snarky and a little bit twisted. It is a love story of a bear shiter and an “ energy witch” and their friends who also ate special . I have almost everything she has written. I love Molly Harper.
This audio book made a terrible 5 hour, two lane highway drive very enjoyable. We laughed out loud. We snickered. I spit out coffee. I do love Molly Harper’s books for the “laugh factor”.
The characters in the book are wonderful. There were a lot of frequent repeats from How to Date a Dragon so YAY!!!. Even the bad characters were so well written that they gave me the creeps.
Best of all Zed finds his perfect match and she doesn’t make it easy for him. After what he did to Bael he more than deserved the hard time.
Fingers crossed that there are more to come. I know just where to to to enjoy the audiobook.
Mar 24, 2019 The eBook is here!!!! YAY!!!! Loved it. There is nothing better than reading pages of entertainment written by Molly Harper.
