For Samuel Grayson, everything is black or white. As a funeral director, there’s no room for in-between. He’s accustomed to dealing with life and death, though he’s definitely more comfortable with the latter. Especially when it comes to a chaotic, petite, feisty ball of energy. Freedom Rayne. Samuel’s pretty sure her goal is to make his life hell, or so it appears. When Samuel boards a flight to … to Las Vegas for his sister’s wedding, the last thing he expects is to share it with the one woman who drives him crazy.
Freedom is eccentric and completely content with it. Floating around from job to job, she finds peace and tranquility in everything she does, including tormenting poor, uptight Samuel Grayson. When she finds herself on the same flight as him for her best friend’s wedding, she sees this as the perfect opportunity to get under his skin, something she tries to do every chance she gets. The problem is the more time she spends with him, the more she likes him.
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? Not for Samuel and Freedom. Will they be able to forget about their trip when they return to Rockland Falls? What if one mistake turns out to be the best thing ever?
more
Samuel Grayson. He is responsibility personified, loves order and sees the world in terms of black or white. Freedom Rayne is a total free spirit that enjoys change and spontaneity. Her personality embodies her name.
Free lives to drive Samuel crazy and has since they were teens. She maybe has a secret crush on the oldest Grayson brother . . . and just maybe Samuel finds her beautiful as well even if he doesn’t always understand her. Complete opposites in every way, there is absolutely no way they could ever work as a couple, right?
But, not everything that happens in Vegas stays there, and now Samuel and Freedom have to decide if their epic night was the biggest mistake of their lives or the best thing that could have ever happened to them.
I’ve been waiting for this book since the beginning of the Rockland Falls series, and Lacey Black did not disappoint! It’s been entertaining watching Samuel and Freedom dance around one another for the past 3 books of the series and I couldn’t wait to see how they finally ended up together, as they really are polar opposites in everything including the fact that Freedom knows that what they have will work and Samuel being worried that because everything was doe backwards, they don’t stand a chance.
Their banter was amazing and hilarious. Freedom is so in your face and Samuel is just not. I loved watching Free continually push Samuel out of his comfort zone in the hopes that he would relax and enjoy life. I have to say that I really enjoyed watching Samuel’s transformation as he earned to appreciate and enjoy everything that Freedom brings to their relationship. And, while she may be a bit of an eccentric and free spirit, Freedom’s love and respect for Samuel is genuine and true and beautiful.
Love and neckties was just fun and joyous to read. And, I have to warn you, super hot as well! Who knew that the man who always wears his tie and worries about germs could bring such heat in and out of the bedroom! 5 stars.
6 Hearts
Love and Neckties is the fifth and final novel in the Rockland Falls series by one of my favorite authors ever, Lacey Black. Each book can be read as standalone but I HIGHLY recommend reading the series. First, they are all amazing and second, with each book you will fall harder and harder with this characters. I have been waiting for Samuel and Freedom’s book since the first time she blew in and called him Sammy. And believe me…it was so worth the wait!! So fucking worth it.
Samuel’s life is in black and white. Freedom’s is in bright vibrant colors. Samuel’s casual wear is suits and ties while Freedom’s is flown skirts and sandals. Samuel holds in his feelings while Freedom says what she means when she means it. Samuel is proper while Freedom can be crude. These two are complete opposites. One thing they do have in common is people think they are different. They have quirks. He works for the dead. She works jobs helping the living. Spiritually and beautifully. He tries to avoid eye contact with her while she tries to get under his skin. Now, they are together on a wild ride to Las Vegas. And it’s a trip they will never forget and completely unexpected.
I really can’t say much about the storyline without spoiling it. Sorry, not sorry. I can say that it’s my FAVORITE Lacey book! She has never made me laugh so hard in her books and believe me, she has made me laugh. Not only that but cry too! I cried twice in one chapter. I knew I would love Sammy and Free’s story because of the buildup throughout the series but I can’t even express how much I truly loved it. It’s the perfect slow burn. The flow of the story is fantastic. The blend of Samuel and Freedom’s playful banter, passion, and quirks is the best.
Overall…it’s a story I wasn’t fully expecting…it was so much more! Samuel is so nerdy hot and Freedom is so beautiful inside and out. Together, they gave me every single feel from laughter to madness. I think it’s the perfect ending for the series. It was so much fun catching up with the family.
P.S. I want to run my hands down his tie and I want to go shopping with Free for some skirts.
Quotes:
“Where’s the fire? Or did you have plans this evening?” I ask, waggling my eyebrows suggestively.
Samuel clears his throat and straightens. “I could have had plans.”
“Of course you could have. I hear the coin club meets on Tuesday nights at the library.” I give him the best, sweetest smile I possess, showing all of my teeth.
“One of these days, Sammy, I’m going to get ahold of your…chakra, and make you feel so good, you’ll never want me to stop having my hands on your…chakra.”
“Freedom. Stop. It.”
My body shivers when he says my name. So full of authority. So deep and husky. So full of irritation. Yet, I want to crawl on his lap, wrap my arms around his neck, and kiss him with everything I have.
I love Lacey Black and the way she creates characters that are so easy to fall in love with. I absolutely loved Samuel and Freedom. There was never a time where the saying Opposites attract was more fitting.
Freedom was exactly what Samuel need to loosen up a bit. She was wild, loud, speaking her mind where he was all about order. Together they clashed but you couldn’t help but fall in love with them as they started to build up their relationship.
I’ve been a huge fan since I’ve read my first book in Summer sisters series and with each book I read I love Lacey Black even more. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

This book was a fabulous romance read and this author has written beautiful really relatable characters that the reader can really connect to and you will love them. I just loved Free and how she was and her outlook on life and how she never took things too seriously, they both really connect with each other and really go together even though they are both very different and I loved watching how there journey progressed and how they navigated each other. They way that this story flows is awesome and this author is a fantastic writer and I really enjoyed this book it was fun, flirty and very sweet and I couldn’t put this book down. I always love books that have epilogues too as is always feel like they add that something extra special to the stories. Lacey delivers an amazing read that will have you laughing out loud like a hyena at random moments, leave you needing a cold shower the next moment and at the end leave you with a big smile on your face. Samuel and Free are the perfect for each other one like order neat and tidy, the other live and be free yet together they bring out the best in each other.
Lacey Black does it once again with this family, and Orvy and Emma making their appearance! 5 stars for this one, grab it asap!
Samuel, straight laced mortician, no one understands why he chose this field, but the comfort he brings people who’ve lost a loved one is very satisfying to him. Well, now he finds out Freedom is the only one who understands his choice. But she drives him absolutely insane, and one drunken night at his sisters (her bff) wedding in Vegas, and their story begins!
I loved this story so much, this is a must read, and the series as well, the books just get better and better! Don’t miss out on this one!
Lacey is a amazing author I have read so many of her books and she never disappoints.
If I could give this story more than 5 stars I would.
A great love story.
One of my favorites of this series. Hands down. The BEST!
I’m not one to give out a lot of info when I review, but this book deserves EVERYTHING!!!
Meet Samuel. He’s anal about everything. Has been since he was a kid. Everything to him is black and white. In his life there is NO COLOR. The suit wearing funeral home perfectionist is hiding behind this suit clad hot body. Yes, a hot body. You wouldn’t know that until the time comes. Who knew this many has a dirty mind, and knows how to use his tongue.
Besides doing everything by the book in his life, his life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, that is until this colorful free spirit places herself right where she wants, in Samuel’s life. Even if it means irritating him to no end.
Meet Freedom. He’s the colorful free spirit that is your hippie chick. Long skirts, sandals, and minimal makeup. Color is her name and she will place it anywhere she feels, even it if brings a certain anal man out of his comfort zone. She makes it her mission to get on his nerves, but deep down, she knows he likes it, he just won’t admit it. Longing for this man to come out of his comfort zone, Free is willing to do whatever it takes to make everything that has happened between the both of them last.
With her bright colors and her care free spirit, Samuel doesn’t know what to do. Everything to him was done backwards. He needs to do right, but does everything need to be a certain way or can he let go and just let things flow? Will a certain flower child change this anal mans ways, or will it be a lost cause?
This is my favorite book out of the series. A love story that doesn’t happen in certain order, but a love story that took many years of building, even if it’s in their own minds. Two different people, from two totally different worlds. BEST STORY EVER
Lacey never disappoints! Samuel and Free were fire. They had some insane chemistry. I knew from the start of this series that their story was going to be a good one. How could it not be with Samuel. I love how Free accepted him for him and didn’t try to change him as a person. Samuel was so awkward but I absolutely loved it. I am a little sad that this series is coming to an end but I can’t wait to see what Lacey has in store for us next.
