Real life crime solving can certainly put a damper on a romance. The heated dog days of summer are making everyone grumpy. When the biggest gossip in Newburg, Indiana ends up dead—with Sam Arnold’s dad the prime suspect—things get hotter. It’s been a month and a half since she helped bring down a bad guy. Maybe it’s time to try her hand at a new case, especially since her boyfriend is out of town.… boyfriend is out of town.
Special Agent Mitchell has been saddled with a sexy, driven partner who does things by the book. Cutting corners or covering shortcuts with charm doesn’t work on her. He misses brainstorming with his spunky sidekick, and now that her dad’s reputation is on the line, the pressure’s on. Evading his watchdog and snooze-fest new assignment is top priority. Too bad his professional butt is on probation.
Time’s running out for Sam and Mitchell to solve the crime while clues go as cold. The heat he’s battling from his new partner’s “hand’s on” tactics might bring their budding romance to a boil, but they’ll need to work things out before an unlikely killer throws cold water on all their plans.

The second book in the Unlikely Partners series a well written mystery story that kept me turning pages. Sam/Samantha Arnolds and Special Agent Patton Mitchell’s story there is suspense, drama, danger, murder, mystery, a villain, and romance. I want to read the next book. This is the second book in the Unlikely Partners series. Although you can read this as a standalone, if you read book 1 first you can see how Sam and Mitchell met. This is a very well-written romance/mystery book with plenty of drama and suspense that will keep you engaged and turning the pages anxiously wanting to see what happens next. The story flows nicely and keeps you guessing throughout. I really like Ms. Sookoo’s writing style. She writes such entertaining and captivating stories and always manages to create great chemistry all the while keeping it clean. The dialogue between Sam and Mitchell was great and had me smiling as I was reading. I loved meeting both characters in the first book and enjoyed seeing their relationship grow a little more in this one. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series!

Samantha is going to have to fend for herself this time around since Mitchell has been stuck several hours away from Newburg on an antiquities case with a new partner and that leaves him trying to determine just what his relationship with Sam has become. To make matters much more complicated, his new partner is a woman who believes in getting to know her partners very, very well. Will Mitchell succumb? Will he manage to resist and actually bring himself to acknowledge that Sam is his girlfriend now or will Daphne succeed in forcing him to choose to preserve his continued career in the FBI over remaining faithful to his (almost girlfriend) relationship status with Sam?
In the meantime, Sam is left with her father being considered a suspect in the murder case of the town gossip, her mother descending upon Newburg and deciding to move in with Sam to support her husband, Sam not being sure where she stands with Mitchell in their relationship (or if they even have a relationship at all), plus dealing with a teenager in the throes of puppy love for her and what is with all those near-miss accidents happening to her? Sam is back up to her neck in a new case which may very well see not only to the end of a relationship with Mitchell but also to the end of her life!!
I loved this follow-up book to Indiana, with Love by Sandra Sookoo about Samantha Arnold and her FBI Agent almost boyfriend Patton Mitchell, (or Mitchell Mitchell as Sam calls him) and the series that this has become!! Mix murder, humorous snark, witty dialogue, tumultuous emotion involving the new femme-fatale partner of your boyfriend who is bent on seduction, parents who are in discord, the loyalty of friendship, and then stir like crazy to create a book that you will not want to put down! Absolutely fantastic dramatic comedy (or dramedy as I call it) contemporary romance series!!

LOVE AND COLD PIE is the second book in the Unlikely Partners series. Though it does stand on its own, it would be better had I read the first book in the series when Mitchell and Sam met. This is definitely a continuation of their story.
This is a clean romance and romantic suspense with a strong look at jealousy and what is the boundary of monogamy in a relationship. By the way, I thought that boundary was perfectly explored.
I loved the chemistry between Sam/Samantha and Mitchell – and I wanted to kick Agent Daphne Taylor in the tushie.
It’s not easy to convey the romantic chemistry while keeping a story clean, but Sandra Sookoo does it, beautifully. There are steamy kisses and offers of more, but the bedroom doors are firmly closed.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via Booksprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
