Sometimes it takes a child to remind us that love and family are rarely perfect but an accepting heart can smooth out the imperfections. Mike Kneller-Mettler’s life has certainly been on the fast track upward since he met his husband, Bryn. Now married for nearly a year to the starting goalie for the Pittsburgh Ravens, Mike’s found himself propelled into a new home, a new career, and a new role … new role as a loving spouse. As his baby sister’s wedding approaches, Mike is going to be faced with a couple of monumental decisions that will affect not only his future but everyone he holds close to his heart.
Bryn Mettler and his team didn’t have the best ending to their season. Nursing a recurring groin injury, Bryn isn’t quite sure he’s ready for wedding chaos. But the nuptials are going to go off whether he’s able to dance with the bride or not. Amid the usual insanity that every wedding brings, unexpected guests show up to throw the beautifully planned affair into turmoil. As the adults slip into childish behavior, it might be up to Liam to be the voice of reason.

Love According to Liam is part of the According to Liam series, but unlike the other books in the series, I had a hard time enjoying it. I loved the sparkle and joy Liam brings to the series, and I love the support and love Mike and Bryn have for each other, but I hated how Mike was being treated by his sister and parents. There were a lot of toxic moments with the relationships between Mike, his sister, his parents, and even with himself. It’s quite evident that Mike has a lot of self-esteem issues and he suffers from not thinking he’s worthy. This low self-esteem has even affected his relationship with Bryn, although Bryn was great with supporting and listening to Mike. I was really sad during the whole house hunting scenario because the reason Mike didn’t want the same house Bryn wanted boiled down to not feeling worthy. If Mike hadn’t wanted the house because he had a certain type of house or neighborhood in mind, that would be fine, but not wanting the house because he felt that he didn’t deserve luxury just felt wrong and gross. This, piled with the awful behavior of his sister and parents just made me so sad for Mike. The first two books in the series made me feel happy after reading them, but I didn’t get that happy feeling reading this book. I’m going to try out the fourth book in the series because overall I’ve enjoyed the series, but I did feel let down by this book.
I love Liam. At a mere five years he is, by far, the best teacher ever! Kudos to Ms. Locey!
This was probably the most emotional of the 3 books. It’s sad when you aren’t accepted for who you are and all the choices you make. To have been hurt by people who are supposed to love you unconditionally is the worst.
This story hits hard with its truths and I am fully team Michael and Bryn!
I really enjoyed this book. It was so awesome to be able to visit with Liam and see how he is growing up. I love the dynamic of Mike and Bryan and the changes that they have gone through from being injured to buying a house . I love how real of a family life this series shows .
This was a fantastic addition to Liam’s series of books. I call it that because he is such a huge part of his Uncle Michael and Uncle Bryn’s story. Sometimes forgiveness is hard to give. What has happened in the past can be so soul destroying that it takes a lot to get past. The amazing love between Bryn and Michael cannot be denied. From their sexy times to just being there for each other. So much going on in this book that I don’t want to post, for it would ruin the readers chance to experience it themselves.
Amazing characters, even though I was hoping for 2 ppl to get a hard Gibbs smack at one point in the book. But hey! Not my call.
Really looking forward to The World According to Liam coming in 2021. I love visiting with Bryn, Liam & Michael.
Must read in my opinion.
I loved this latest addition to this series, and I’m very happy that there’s more to come.
Mike and Bryn’s relationship feels very real. They’re in love and it shows, not just through words but actions too. I like how they’re honest with each other, and although they support each other, they’ll call out behaviour that isn’t so great either. That they do make mistakes is one of the things I love about them as it makes them very human. They’re both from very different walks of life and that takes some adjusting, even after being together a while.
This story is very much about family. Mike and Bryn are thinking about starting one. Mike has to work through his problems with his family, which is very much a work in progress learning curve for all of them, Kelly and Adam are getting married, and Bryn’s parents rock. I’m looking forward to meeting them in the next story.
And then there’s Liam.
I love his childlike lack of filters and the questions he asks that make the adults rethink some of their actions. He’s also the bond between past and present in this story which I thought worked well. I like that although he’s quite precocious at times, his mother and uncles don’t let him get away with bad behaviour. I think Bryn, despite his lack of experience with children, is going to make a great dad.
As an aside I loved Jamie, Mike’s work colleague. I hope he finds someone and his own HEA.
Lovely, riveting story with brilliant characters. This series is a pure treasure!
This was a terrific addition to the According to Liam stories. Liam is a funny and wise five year old who keeps the adults in his life grounded. He’s also the nephew of Michael and his husband Bryn. We get a little bit of hockey at the beginning of this one, since Bryn is a goaltender, but most of the story takes place in the off season.
I enjoy the relationship between Bryn and Michael, who are completely in love; and I adore their interactions with Liam. Like most little boys, the child has no filter, which often made me laugh out loud. There were also some tearful moments, for the characters and for this reader. The emotions were strong, and I was completely pulled into every moment.
This book is part of a very enjoyable series, which is well written and heartwarming. I love the strong feelings and family bonds. I look forward to more from this couple and their adorable nephew, and I recommend this series.
