It was a hell of a long shot…. CIA assassin Fortune Redding is about to undertake her most difficult mission ever—in Sinful, Louisiana. With a leak at the CIA and a price placed on her head by one of the world’s largest arms dealers, Fortune has to go off-grid, but she never expected to be this far out of her element. Posing as a former beauty queen turned librarian in a small bayou town seems … town seems worse than death to Fortune, but she’s determined to fly below the radar until her boss finds the leak and puts the arms dealer out of play. Unfortunately, she hasn’t even unpacked a suitcase before her newly inherited dog digs up a human bone in her backyard.
Thrust into the middle of a bayou murder mystery, Fortune teams up with a couple of seemingly sweet old ladies whose looks completely belie their hold on the little town. To top things off, the handsome local deputy is asking her too many questions. If she’s not careful, this investigation might blow her cover and get her killed. Armed with her considerable skills and a group of elderly ladies the locals dub The Geritol Mafia, Fortune has no choice but to solve the murder before it’s too late.

Best book I’ve read and re-read and re-read again. so funny!
hilarious fast read
I bought this on a whim, needing light reading after finishing “Hamilton.” I’ve not only purchased and read the entire 18 book series during the Pandemic, but I’ve read all Jana DeLeon’s “Mudbug” series too. The characters and their shenanigans kept me laughing and more than interested. I’m a fan!
This is the first book in the hilarious Fortune series and every one of them is a laugh-out-loud crazy ride. You’ll meet wonderful characters in the zaniest – and sometimes deadly – situations, with outcomes you’ll never predict. This is a series you’ll definitely want to dip your toes in.
Intriguing concept: a CIA agent with a target on her back is sent to a small Louisiana town to live undercover and meets her match in a pair of older women. Mystery and hilarity ensue.
This was just a very fun read, nothing deep or thought provoking, just entertaining. Super enjoyable. I will definitely read more of this series.
I loved this book. One of my all time favorites. Perfect read for people on a search for whimsical, and funny books. The first book of the 17 book series. More coming out soon. I recommend it. It’s 5 stars on my list. Check it out.
I wanted a fun, light-hearted mystery for a hot afternoon and this turned out to be just the thing. The plot is fairly bonkers and wouldn’t survive close analysis, but that’s beside the point. Fortune Redding is a CIA agent hiding out from international arms dealers who are out to kill her in the small Louisiana town of Sinful where she’s been …
Kookie characters. Funny, clever , an all around good read
This page had me from Fortune getting off the plain carrying one shoe without a place to hide her gun. Have I got your attention? I read this in one afternoon and it’s been a long time since a book has held me captive. The charming town of Sinful is layered with many mysteries and I can’t wait to see what’s up next.
Well written humorous mystery with unique plot and charming characters. Kind of an abrupt ending but wraps up nicely at the end anyway. Well worth the read.
While it begins with intrigue & a sense of danger, it moves to a collection of funny “Southern-isms” & a group of “old ladies” who are the true hero’s.
Fortune is a one-of-a-kind character: a CIA-trained assassin unsuccessfully assuming the identity of a librarian/beauty queen. I loved her first meetings with the other characters, how she sizes them up to determine how difficult it would be to take them down. The growing relationships among the elderly female characters and Fortune were also a …
Incredibly entertaining!
Wow, I don’t even know how to describe this crime caper! Surprising me at every turn, Jana Deleon weaves a story so tight you don’t know up from down! So fun, so exciting, so entertaining! Loved it!
Really enjoyed it, can’t wait to read more in series
I was introduced to this series by a very inexpensive offer. Warning: this series is addictive. As soon as I finished the first in the series, I immediately order #2 in the series, then #3… I am currently reading #12, and #13 is waiting. Great for people who like twisted mysteries, laughing and very unexpected endings.
I enjoyed this comical read. It was humorous with action, a little suspense and a few twists. I look forward to reading more of Fortune’s adventures.
Love the entire series!
Hilarious.
Simply entertaining!
