What a story! Two of my favorite themes-Jack the Ripper and Lousiana- all in one book! It has a different twist for sure. I highly recommend it for mystery fans.
Loved reading this book. It was very well written and researched
This book encompasses many plot arcs that cover England of Victorian times and modern America, with some 40s action mixed in. The characters are diverse and quite realistic. A set of actions in present day Louisiana brings Chandler Travis to an investigation that uncovers his past and unknown features of his heritage. The writing is smooth and easy to read. The descriptions invoke great images of a deadly Louisiana swamp and its monsters. The story itself has all the elements of a great epic: Jack the Ripper, crooked politicians, intense bodyguards, a love that lasts through time, and the reawakening of romance for the main characters. Yes I am definitely going to read the next book in this series just to see if it measures up to the incredibly high standard set by this first book.
Mysteries old and new are explored in this incredibly well spun tale set in the Pelican State of Louisiana. An unlikely pair team up to solve them in this book I found that couldn’t quite put down until I finished it!
I received this book as an Arc from the author. I’m writing a review because I honestly loved it! This an interesting story. Jack the Ripper has always been one of my favorite things to wonder about. This is really a different take. It’s action packed and it’s characters are believable and the plot is good! Highly recommended!
I love English history, and the history chapters merged well with the present day. Well written and characters were very interesting.
I like novels that are g-rated without 4 letter words. The intimate scenes could be more low key.
The ending chapters with a physical link to one of the infamous “Jack the Ripper” victims was surprising.
The scandal of the British government’s invention of a murderer at large was much like what the U.S. fake or misleading news has been doing — shocking sensationalism to get the citizens attention to overwhelm what is really happening.
Looking forward to reading the next novel.
From the dark past of London’s Jack the Ripper to present day Louisiana in one gripping novel, what’s not to like?
Well developed characters draw you in. You’ll never think of Jack the Ripper quite the same.
An intense read you’ll want to finish in one sitting.
Louisiana Blood is a wonderful book that grips you from start to finish. It starts in Victorian London during the time of Jack the Ripper and moves to the Louisiana swamps, then overlays the same locales in the present day. The modern team of Chandler Travis and Duke Lanoix are strong British and American lawmen. The story spans three generations, and the characters are all related and well developed. It is a mystery, and a love story, with a meticulous historical background, medical experiments spanning the century, and modern technology used in solving the old mystery. There are plenty of thrills and action as the murders, hurricanes, fires, and explosions provide non-stop excitement. I was hooked by the first page and can’t wait for more.
It has been quite sometime since I spent a day locked in the grips of a story that held me spellbound. As someone who has read a number of Jack the Ripper books/stories Louisiana Blood is probably the most original I’ve read. This story follows Chandler Travis as he pursues answers to a century old case as well as his family legacy of solving the Ripper case. Along with very well-developed characters from the present day, Mike Donald has created a very believable narrative from London of the late 1800’s and historical characters who are very believable and presented in such a way the reader can fully relate to each of them. I have no doubt I’ll be looking forward to each of Mr. Donald’s future books, if they are at least half as good as Louisiana Blood they will be hits.
Jack the Ripper as you’ve never considered him. The dark foggy streets of Victorian London compete with the real swamps and human swamps of modern day Louisiana for your favorite place of conspiracy, murder and money. The effortless transitions from one time period to another creates a thrilling book with an alternate reality. Could this be true?
Louisiana Blood by Mike Donald is a five star thriller whose characters are so well defined that you have a very clear picture of each one and they will stay with you long after you have finished the book. From late 19th century London to current day Louisiana you’re taken on a terrifying ride of unimaginable depth and a love so achingly powerful you’ll want to cry. The author takes you seamlessly from one timeline to the next and back. You will want to rush to the next page to see what happens and at the same time you don’t want it to end. If you don’t read another book this year you need to read this one.
