Miss Charlotte Kennedy, a southern belle from Georgia, has been waiting for her fiancé, Ryan Hill, to return from the Civil War since it ended three years ago. Nothing is the same since he enlisted, promising to return. When her cousin, Kitty Gardner, writes to her about a mail-order bride agency in Ottertail County, Minnesota, Charlotte writes to the proprietress, Miss Ella Milton, hoping she … hoping she might be able to find her a suitable match. She doesn’t expect her heart to stop aching for Ryan, but moving forward with her life has become more appealing than the devastation of the war.
The last thing Lottie expects is for Ella Milton to match her to Captain Caleb Brooks, a handsome Yankee hero who sweeps her off her feet right from the start. He doesn’t expect her to be so beautiful, and he certainly doesn’t expect her to turn his life upside-down.
When Ryan, the handsome young Master of Bally-Belle Plantation, turns up on the scene in Pelican Rapids alive, suffering from a severe case of Soldier’s Heart and searching for his fiancée, Caleb may have to enlist the help of some unlikely company to bring his bride safely home again.

I can’t imagine how difficult it would have been to be a mail-order bride. With a great deal of faith and courage, Charlotte (Lottie) Kennedy endeared herself to me. She proved that she was a young lady with spirit and bravery to begin a new life. Setting aside her reservations and trusting God and the kindness that she felt in a letter from her perspective husband, Caleb Brooks, Lottie takes a great step of faith.
There was a harrowing incident that Lottie had to endure that I felt really help make the book an interesting read. Lottie had to keep calm and trust things would work out for her. Lottie’s True Love can be read as a stand alone, but is a part of the Brides of Pelican Rapids. Lottie has some interested eligible cousins so maybe they will also become mail-order brides? I think that would be fun to discover that one of them becomes a mail-order bride too.
Thank you to the author for a copy of the book. I was not required to write a review. All opinions are my own.
After waiting three years for Ryan to come home from the war, Lottie finally gives him up for dead. Since there are no acceptable, marriageable men in her town, she decides to become a mail order bride. Lottie travels to Pelican Rapids where she marries Caleb. This story has some surprising twists and turns including a double kidnapping and rescue. It is a very exciting beginning to this series.
Wonderful and fun story. I loved this one but the things that happened to civilians in the south by the Yankees were horrible.
I loved the hero and heroine very much and the heroines former slave, now paid ladies maid. This will having you learning more about the civil war and the aftermath, what happens to soldiers and about a most wonderful romance story as a mail order bride from the south moved north to meet her ideal match.
Kudos to the author for adding in the meanings of some of the words in that era. I highly recommend this story and hopefully the rest of the series by several authors

Heartbroken she still wants to get married so she sends out to be a mail order bride. She’s surprised when she is paired with Caleb because he’s from the north and she’s from the south. And when her former fiancé shows up will this ruin the connection they have built in the months they have been married?
I really enjoyed this Christian story. It has a great story line that handles the differences between the main characters and also the specific details that are written in this book makes it really entertaining.
