The heart-stopping follow-up to the bestselling new adult of star-crossed in the city that never sleeps.Six months ago, I gave my heart to a girl.Beautiful, kind, and sexy as sin, she’s the only person who saw past my record or the color of my skin. Who ever saw me for me. She loved me enough to let me go, let me leave this city to find my own path. But without her, I drift, lost without … without her, I drift, lost without direction.
Without me, she spirals, desperate for connection.
I gave my heart to a girl, and she gave hers to me.
But love shouldn’t hurt this much.

“I have a feeling that no matter how long it’s been, whether we’re twenty or eighty, Layla’s always going to be my girl.”
I’d like to tell you that Lost Ones picks up right where Bad Idea left us hanging, but that’s not what we get. We get so much more….
“Do you ever feel this way?” … “What way?” … “Like we can’t get close enough?”
The cliffhanger Bad Idea left us with was pretty hard and I’m just glad I was lucky enough to read both books right after another. Lost Ones actually picks up where Bad Idea ended – and I’m not talking about the cliffhanger epilogue. It tells us the story how two lost souls try to find their own ways and at the same time the ways back to each other.
“They tell you how good it feels when you find love for the first time. But no one ever tells you how much love hurts when you have to let it go.”
The road we are following Nico and Layla is pretty rocky with lots of cross roads. Each decision they make leads them further apart and brings them closer together at the same time. As a reader you live right in the world of loss and heartbreak all over again.
“We’ve been lost, floundering around apart, finding only after the damage has been done that it’s together that we’re found.”
My heart aches for both of their lost souls and with each heartbreak my heart got heavier and heavier. The story we follow in Lost Ones is spiked with very heavy topics only to peak in breaking Layla in thousand pieces and more.
“We aren’t lost anymore, baby, because we found each other again.”
The growth Nico and Layla go through in Lost Ones is pretty impressive. Even though they tend to break each others hearts again and again like they did in Bad Idea. But Lost Ones shows us, that true love exists and it’ll always find a way to exist no matter how often you need to pick up the pieces of your heart. True love will always mend what was broken.
“Saudade. … it’s like when you yearn for something or someone. Like your heart speaks to their heart, and when they’re gone, it’s that emptiness that remains. It’s a longing, maybe for something that never even happened.” – I saved this quote for the end of my review because it perfectly describes the feeling accompanying you while reading Lost Ones.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Have you ever read book that just left you feeling like. Well that is how I feel about this amazing read. that will have you feel throught out the book. this book is a must read book it will have you thinking about the feeling throught out the book.
This book, oh man, it truly broke me. Nico and Layla were so lost, so lost without each other. My heart was broken tiny piece by piece as I followed through their separate paths to discover who they really are.
Although they are mostly apart in this book, they are constantly in each other’s thoughts and decisions. Each goes through some heartbreaking times but they always know and admit to each other how much they love each other. They just believe they have no future together, and must try to go in different directions. But like magnets, they cannot.
Now for the other players: Jessie. I really dislike her, but I would probably want Nico for myself, so how can I blame her. But Giancarlo is another story! What kind of name is that even? First name, last name? Or like Cher, just one name? But I HATED that rotten banana man with a purple passion! And Quinn? She got on my bad side, too. But Jaime and Sharma, BFFs FOREVER!!! I LOVE THOSE GIRLS!!!
You have to read this Trilogy! So so so good! Every one that I read of Nicole’s I say is my favorite, and it’s true. Till I read the next. Wish I could give it more than 5 STARS! I’m ready to see if they can finally get things right in the final book, True North!
Lost Ones was the second book in Nicole’s Bad Ideas Series and MUST be read in order, these are not stand-alones. It picked up right where Bad Idea left off and was filled with heart wrenching angst! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time!!
Layla loved Nico enough to know he needed a break away from a city that was trying to swallow him whole. But when he left, could Layla forgive herself for telling him to go? Had she made the worst mistake of her life?
Oh Nico… my heart was breaking for them! I absolutely hated Giancarlo! No! Just no! I don’t like cheating, and I am not sure how to feel because Giancarlo was just horrible…I don’t think it was right, but because it was him…I might be ok with it.
One advantage to reading these after they were all released, I don’t have to wait for the next one to come out!!! I can’t express how much I love all of Nicole’s work!!
What a beautiful charged emotional read that will hold you entranced from beginning to end! The continuing story of Nico and Layla will take you on a wild ride. So much goes on this story. Your heart will stop, you will be angered, saddened, lustful and eventually even happy. These two belong together, but so much in their lives gets in the way. So many times I wanted to throw my Kindle, which to me, shows how great the story is. Layla goes thru things no woman should have to, but she is a strong character, so I hoped as I read that she would persevere. And Nico just wants what’s best for her even though at times I wanted to scream at him, but I knew he was only doing what he thought best for her. This book will pull at all your emotions. It is so incredible! Please read this phenomenal story! Now I can’t wait to read the final book!!
This book is it the reason that I read. I have loved Nico and Layla from the start but this book made me love them more. Well rounded and excellently written these characters are some of the realist characters I have ever read. Lost Ones has it all I cried, laughed, and had all the feels from this book. Nicole, you are the master (which I already told you) I can’t wait to see where you take it from here. I loved this book for so many reasons.
Lost Ones is a continuing story on Layla and Nico and their emotional rollercoaster of a relationship, they drove me nuts-lol, secondary characters are mentioned more which made the story interesting but leaves unanswered questions, hopefully they will be answered in True North so I’m looking forward to reading that.
I haven’t read much from this author but I swear this series is just too much for words. This isn’t a perfect little love story. It isn’t the type of story you associate with what seems to be insta love although Nico realizes that it was never insta love. That everything good in his life, every good memory is tied to her. Their story can’t be told without telling everything and it’s not easy to read. Nico is everyone’s hero but when it comes to his own life, his own happiness well let’s just say there’s a problem, a disconnect. Layla, oh sweet naïve, alone and broken, there’s so much that can be said for her. I wanted to hug her, choke her, shake her, protect her. She brought out so many emotions in me at times I had to remind myself it is a book for crying out loud. Okay I did that too. This isn’t just a love story. It’s the story of two people that have to deal with life, bad decisions, up bringing, surroundings and more before they can truly deal with each other. Hold on to your heart and get out the tissues, this is bout to get real.
This author does an amazing job of making this all real. She takes real life situations and brings them to the page with skill and finesse that will have you reeling. This is a story that digs deep because we all know someone. . . It’s an emotional read and one that I can’t wait to complete.
I’m speechless!! I’ve read a lot of books and this one is now at the top of my favorites. I felt every emotion with Nico and Layla’s story. I laughed (a lot), I cried and I yelled!!
Even though Nico and Layla lived 3,000 apart you could feel the love they have for each other. There connection is undeniable, real. When tragedy hits they are brought back to each to help each other heal. This is a true love story that proves love conquers all.
I can’t wait to read the next book!!
I loved, loved, loved this book. It was worth the wait. I love Nico He’s just gorgeous inside and out!
Lost Ones continues Layla and Nico’s story right after Bad Idea ends, they take separate paths in life but always end up back pulling towards each other. In this book they are discovering themselves and we get bunch of great news for Nico. Even though all his choices were not good at the end he gets his dream.
Layla, she gets the hard hand dealt in this book, she goes thru soooo much and I’m sorry that happened to her. I really hope things get better for her in the next part of their story.
Once again I’ll say this: Nicole you did an awesome job!!!. Nicole does her homework, she doesn’t guess how things would be. At the thanksgiving party I felt like I was back at my grandma’s for christmas, the way you touch the delicate subject of Nico’s mom and the spanish words in between just a great job. I love Nico and Layla story and I’m really looking forward to read the next one and anything else you write.
“The best moments in my life have always been with her. Right from the start.”
Oh the love I have for this book! 5 stars in NOT enough. I loved Bad Idea…. this book went above and beyond my expectations for it! The love that Nico and Layla share is both a blessing and a curse! Their timing was all bad! While Nico was trying to find himself in California, Layla was losing herself in New York. But her downward spiral was not all about Nico. Although they seem to be toxic for each other, they can’t manage to stay away. It has been 16 hours since I finished reading Lost Ones and I can not let go of Layla and Nico! My heart was breaking into a million pieces. I had some very real feelings while reading this book. I felt angry at people. I wanted to cause bodily harm to a few of the characters. I honestly felt everything right a long with Layla. I can not even begin to tell you how many times I had to reach for the tissue box! And some of the supporting characters really got me intrigued to find out their stories as well. I think that everyone needs to read these books! All. The. Feels!!!!!

Lost Ones is an emotional rollercoaster with highs and lows, but you’ll enjoy the journey. My heart hurt so much for Nico and Layla in Bad Idea, but Nicole absolutely wrecked me with Lost Ones… Yes in a sense this does pick up where Bad Idea left us but we get so much more of Layla and Nico’s story. I’m not gonna lie and say that I didn’t like the people Layla or Nico hooked up with while they were apart but one character did redeem themselves in my eyes whereas I was happy that another one got what was coming to them, basically getting a taste of one’s own medicine. I can’t wait to see what will happen with Nico and Layla next or how much more their story is going to evolve in the next book!! Bravo Nicole! You knocked this one out of the park!!
I have been waiting for this second book in the Bad Idea series. When we left Nico and Layla she let him go to live his dreams but when he left she fell apart. She was trying to find her way but without Nico she was just lost. Through many decisions along the way Layla and Nico move forward but never forget. Together they are found but apart they are nothing but lost ones. I love that this book picked up from the cliff hanger from the previous book. I hurt, loved and cried along with this book. I love Layla and Nico and they grow so much during this book. I truly love this book and it’s story of how no matter what happens if true love is meant to be it will be.
I Loved Lost Ones. It was wonderful to read more of Layla and Nico’s story. I was so sad when Nico and Layla went their separate ways in the last book, Bad Idea.
This book starts about 2 months after they have separated. Although their lives took them in different directions Nico and Layla stay in touch. Their story is one full of emotions. At times I found myself upset with the both of them and the decision they made. Yet, I could understand why they made them. I was super saddened by some of the situations Layla finds herself in. My heart broke for her and I most definitely cried. Through it all though I felt hopeful that Layla and Nico’s undying love for each other would eventually bring them back to one another.
