A rollercoaster of emotion and suspense
Masters and Mercenaries: The Forgotten Book 3, as usual with this series, there are plot threads carrying over from the earlier books, so I recommend reading at least the previous books in the series first, with bonus points for reading some of the later original Masters and Mercenaries series as characters and events do carryover from there as well.
I love this author’s characters and all the relationships they have going on, not only with the other main character, but the multitude of intriguing secondary characters as well. I was curious about how Ariel was going to transition from being Robert’s therapist to being his sub, as it seemed to me it would require quite an attitude shift, but I thought the author did a good job giving her a variety of conflicting feelings, not just there but also including secrets about her past and current mission. It helped that those conflicts were balanced out by Robert’s own conflicts, such as his loyalty to his fellow Lost Boys versus the gratitude he feels towards Damon and Ian Taggert, or how drawn he is to Ariel while being concerned with her safety at his hands. It was satisfying to finally see them get together after the build up of the previous books, even as circumstances kept trying to force them apart.
As for the secondary characters, we get to see more of Kim Solomon here, and get more hints of what she’s been doing behind the scenes to keep her ex safe—their story is another one I can’t wait to get my hands on. There are reappearances of loved and not-so-loved characters, and a few new characters introduced as well, all having their part to play in the story.
Speaking of story, the mystery/suspense elements are always handled well by this author, with so many twists I don’t even usually bother to try to figure out what’s really going on any more—and there were some dizzying turns in this storyline. So, okay, I couldn’t resist speculating on who the traitor was (I’ve had a favorite candidate since book 1), but even there the author threw in a twist I didn’t expect—and made it a particularly heartbreaking twist at that.
With a rollercoaster of emotion and suspense (at one point, I went from tears to laughter in a few paragraphs—how does she manage to DO that so well?), I found this story particularly heartbreaking and then I was “Omg, omg, TUCKER’S STORY IS NEXT!” Yeah, I might be a little excited about that. But five months? I guess I’ll finally have a chance to go back and read those original Masters and Mercenaries stories that I missed. 5+ stars

That shocked reader there, the one currently picking her jaw off of the floor? No, not that one. The OTHER one. Yes, the one that’s currently stalking Lexi Blake for any breadcrumbs from the next book. No, not that one! The other one! The one that’s currently rocking in the corner while slobbering something incoherent that sounds like ‘I need the next book’. Yes. Yes, that one. The pathetic looking one that’s clutching her kindle to her chest. Yep. That’s me! And don’t you judge me either! Because this book blew me away! AWAY I tells ya!
This was, hands down, bar none, my absolute favorite book in the series so far. And yes, I know I also said that about the last book. So that’s saying something, mkay? So. Freaking. Good.
Robert and Ari have been desperate for each other for years. Ever since Robert was first rescued from the clutches of the evil Dr. McDonald. But he knew his violent urges and inability to control the darkness in his mind made him dangerous to the beautiful psychologist. But Ari is so much more than she seems.
I’ll tell you guys, that I was afraid I was going to be bored considering there’s such a substantial connection that’s already established with this couple through the first two books. And the fact that they get together quite quickly made me nervous. I’m a reader that likes my angst and enjoys that delicious burn of anticipation for the couple to finally get together. But of course Lexi Blake made me eat my words. Because the romance was phenomenal!
There’s so much that’s happening as the team continues to try and unearth the secrets of their pasts and prevent Levi Green from getting his hands on the mind erasing drug that took their past lives away from them. Lost In You was non stop action with so many twists and turns, it will leave your head reeling.
In the midst of all that high octane action, you also get more details about Solo and Ezra, which left me damn near rabid for their book. Think Ian and Charlotte times ten! YES. It’s that good. Then there’s the development behind Tucker’s past and who really is Dr. Razor. And boy oh boy, let me just tell you, it’s delicious!!! I’m practically dying for that book.
Ari and Robert together were incendiary. Their connection is so strong, but with the secrets that Ari is keeping and the hidden truth of Robert’s past still standing between them, it’s not an easy road for them. I devoured this book, y’all! Like downright devoured. I couldn’t put it down for even a second. There’s so much that happens. Secrets unearthed. Truth revealed. Twists thrown in. It was totally and completely unputdownable. I’m utterly rabid for the next book!!!
Seriously, you drop a bomb like that at the end and now I have to wait until February to find out the gossip???? omg!!!
But enough about the future let’s talk about Lost in You and Robert and Ari, I have to say this was one book I really was undecided whether I wanted a HEA at the end ‘shrug’ and that’s the very first time I’ve said that about a Lexi Blake book but Robert just pissed me off to many times to count and the final straw was well, you’ll know when you get there but it was big…
Iy you can’t trust your assassin girlfriend to have your back then maybe she shouldn’t be your girlfriend… I’m just saying trust is a big thing and Robert definitely didn’t trust Ari even after he told her he loved her…
But it all worked out sort of in the end I do wonder how much better it would have worked out if Robert had trusted Ari but that’s something we’ll never know.
Talk about bombshell after bombshell I was always wondering about one of them betraying more than the other but OMG and then the bullets started flying and wow, yep this was one explosively emotional story with a bit of Taggert magic glittered throughout.
Lexi Blake has teased (and terrified) readers about what would unfold in Munich and all I can say is OMG!!! What should be a simple fact finding mission is totally shot to heck, and nothing for the Lost Boys or the team of McKay-Taggart will ever be the same once events unfold in this book.
Robert and Ari finally give in to their desires, but they both have their pasts to contend with. While Robert’s is unknown, Ari’s isn’t, and she hasn’t been completely honest about her time before she became a full time therapist. With so many secrets and unknowns, readers know the rug is about to be pulled out from underneath them at any minute, and oh boy . . . you’ll never see the twists that Lexi Blake has coming your way!
I absolutely adored Robert and Ari together. He’s so protective of her, and so alpha. Yet, even when he realizes who she really is, he still tries to protect her while trusting in her skills. And, I loved watching Ari as a sub . . . and Rob is utterly delicious in dom mode!)
While some relationships are cemented even more, others are destroyed. Knowing who to trust is almost impossible. There are so many plot twists and turns in this book that it left me reeling! Readers have no chance of predicting the outcome even as events are unfolding.
I honestly don’t know how Lexi Blake weaves the complex characters and stories that she does. She is utterly devious in the most delicious of ways, and it is what keeps readers coming back book after book! 5 stars!
Wow, just holy wow…. what just happened! So in desperate need of the next book it is scaring me a little….. This is an emotionally thrilling roller-coaster that left me absolutely breathless and begging for more. An exciting, action packed, sexy, witty and engaging journey that had my heart pounding and my eyes racing to see what happens next. Excellent reading!
As always Lexi Blake delivers a spine tingling romantic suspense. Robert and Ariel are such wonderful and complex characters, their story is sexy and beautiful, while at times heartbreaking.
The Forgotten spin-off series of Lexi Blake’s Masters & Mercenaries is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I’m a huge fan of romantic suspense and Blake definitely knows how to craft them, seamlessly blending the emotional and romantic elements of her story lines with scenes of danger, action, and drama.
In Lost in You, Blake finally gives readers Robert McClellan and Ariel Adisa’s story – a connection that she’s been building for quite some time.
But even though Robert and Ari have a well-established bond because of the bigger mission as well as the secrets that have still not been unearthed, there’s still a lot for these two characters to sort through and understand, not only about themselves, but each other and those who have come to be a part of their family of deadly misfits.
As much as these two want each other, though, there are a wide-range of obstacles at play, thwarting their chance at true happiness, which means that despite their desperate need for one another, Robert always seems to be holding back due to his guilt, his PTSD, and the information about himself that hasn’t been revealed. In Robert’s mind, he’s protecting Ari from his sporadic nature and despite how incomplete he feels and how much he seems to want Ari in all ways possible, shielding her from his unknown is his priority.
But Ari is both mentally and physically tough, which means that she doesn’t need Robert to protect her because she can take care of herself and help him and the other Forgotten to find their way out of the darkness, however that process may be.
The other Forgotten men remain a huge part of the storyline in Lost In You because they all seek the truth; they all want to help prevent any further destruction and manipulation from occurring; they all want to take back their lives and ensure that no one else’s life will be ruined due to the machinations of evil people. Their camaraderie also allows them to shoulder on, taking each other’s backs in all circumstances – what they all went through binding them in a way that will never waiver.
Lost in You unearths secrets and reveals truths, and its characters learn details about themselves and one another that show them both in a different light, but that information also allows them to face who they are now vs. who they used to be, and, in knowing everything that defines them, they can make their future selves and relationships all that they need to be.
4.5 Poison Apples
Quite simply I loved this
I’ve read quite a few of the earlier Masters and Mercenaries books, but haven’t read any of The Forgotten series . Whilst there are a few minor spoilers in this book, I’m fairly certain when I go back and read them (and that is high on my TBR priority list) I will still enjoy every single moment. Ms Blake does an amazing job of making this stand-alone, allowing you to keep up with the story, without giving too many spoilers away.
Robert is one complex man, and whilst he doesn’t know who he was he definitely knows who he is now. I fell in love with immediately, fell in love with his gentleness, his caring heart, his leadership and sense of responsibility and his protectiveness of those close to him. Life has dealt this man the worst of hands yet he fails to give up or bow down, innately showing his true character.
With how much I loved Robert I should have hated Ariel, but I couldn’t. She wasn’t perfect and she did bad things for good reasons and I totally and utterly believed in her love for Robert. This couple had chemistry that sizzled and we get treated to several very hot BDSM scenes. I may even have to invest in some wooden pegs!
The suspense/intrigue aspect of this book was outstanding. The surprises, twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat. What I really enjoyed was that some of those twists don’t play out in the way you would expect. In the way that most other authors would have developed it. I really didn’t know what was going to happen next and I was mesmerised. I was engaged by every part of this story – apart from the bit I didn’t enjoy, when the author did that ‘nasty author thing’. It might have been necessary for the story, and I may have forgiven her, but I don’t have to be happy about it
Lexi Blake is a true master at writing intense, erotic, suspenseful, BDSM stories and I cannot recommend her series highly enough. This is yet another amazing addition to it.
My heart is still racing from all the tension, suspense and action after reading Lost in You the third book in Lexi Blake’s The Forgotten series. Lexi Blake sure knows how to tell an exciting story that keeps the reader in thrall. This book was a thrill a minute. I loved Robert and Ariel and how their relationship progressed. Each book in this series keeps getting better and better. I can’t wait for Tucker’s story!
Not remembering the past can be a blessing and curse. For the Lost Boys – having their memories erased by Dr. McDonald has been a vacant hole in their existences. With McKay Taggart working to uncover each of the Lost Boys pasts, no one will rest until the secrets of yester years are all out in the open. The Lost Boys used to work with psychologist to cope with this significant loss in their lives. When Ariel could no longer be objective with her Lost Boys, she had to pull away from treating the crew.
One of the Lost Boys touched Ariel’s heart in a much deeper way than the others. Robert always knew that Ariel was more than a psychologist. The two had an instant connection that would not fade. Determined to see this attraction through, Ariel and Robert decide to explore all that they feel in the moment. While testing the waters, trouble comes knocking once more and the entire team will find themselves on the edge of danger once more.
Lexi Blake has added another installment to her wildly popular Masters and Mercenaries collection. Ariel and Robert are two characters that have pulled readers into the series with rapt curiosity. A trip to Munich will lead the entire clan on a journey that will forever alter each of their lives. Robert’s past will be a bit of a shocker, but it is the road to redemption that counts the most. Lost in You is packed with turmoil, secrets and danger lurking on the horizon. Where will it all lead? Only time will tell what will be uncovered in this exciting tale of secrets paired with our favorites from McKay Taggart!!
The Lost Boys just get better and better with each book! I’ve been waiting for Robert and Ariel’s story and LB does not disappoint! Steamy, suspenseful, stupendous!
4.5 Stars
Lost in You has changed the course for the McKay-Taggert & Knight teams. The path in which this series has taken has been turned upside down, zig-zagged left and right; changing the lives of all the Lost Boys, especially Robert McCellen’s. It’s a must read by far! Impeccable!
The plot thickens as past meets present day affairs and the highly classified information from the one and only Dr. McDonald that we have been following throughout all of The Forgotten and even some of the Masters & Mercenaries stories, comes to light and ALL the players are out to get it. Whose hands will it land in, and will their be casualties?
This is another Lexi must read in the fine heart-pounding world of ex-military, ex-spy men & women that have you on the edge of your seat gasping to know what’s around the corner. I will say Lost in You has been one of the best ones to date, as more information has come to light and the action pack sequences were riveting!
Lost In You is the third book in Masters and Mercenaries: The Forgotten series. If finally gives us the story of Robert and Ariel. Out of all of this series, this one might just have become my favorite.
I’ve loved Robert and Ariel’s characters since they were both first introduced so I was excited to see how it was all going to play out.
As usual, I was not disappointed. Lexi Blake weaves a tale so well and her series while overlapping end up feeling like a big family that you’ve known for years. It’s very well done. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Overall Rating:
Shhh…I have a secret. I received an ARC of Lexi Blake’s Lost in You for an honest review, and I…didn’t remember signing up for it. I have posted promos for her because her blurbs intrigue me and I LOVE to help out authors. I know it can be difficult to get readers to read your books, so I figure I can use the space of a blog and social media to get eyes on books. That’s a grand thing. Getting people to read? Yes!
Well, anyways. An ARC for Lost in You landed on my Kindle and me, being a lover of romance, figured I should read it. Right? It’s what I love to do. After reading the blurb, it sounded intriguing. Romantic suspense – check. Secrets – check. Chemistry off the page – check. All of these qualities in the blurb called to my little romantic heart, and I was in. So here’s my review in bullets:
*I struggled at first to get into the story, not because Lexi Blake isn’t exciting. I struggled because I hadn’t read the first two books in this series, Masters and Mercenaries: The Forgotten. Blake really tries to give enough background to help a new reader, but I found myself getting lost in the many characters of this story. There are two main characters, the hero and heroine: Robert and Ariel. That was easy to figure out. However, Robert comes with a group of guys: The Lost Boys (Tucker, Dante, Sasha, Owen, Jax, Theo…). A few of them have books, but several didn’t, and I found myself lost to remember everyone. There are also men in charge of the McKay-Taggert and Knight group, the group trying to help The Lost Boys understand their pasts while protecting them. Plus there are women: Ariel, Kim, Rebecca, et al. I spent the first half of the story simply getting my head around the characters and some of the back story for Ariel and Robert. That caused the story to drag for me. Now, remember, this isn’t Lexi Blake’s fault. Her writing is impeccable, and she’s careful to give the details necessary to get your mind around the characters and the backstory. I’m simply noting this for first-time readers of Lexi Blake and this series; this isn’t really a standalone. I mean, it could be, but I think you’d do well to read the first two books in the series to really help you with this story. Now, that I’ve read Lost in You, I feel prepared for the next book, Tucker and Veronica’s story. And it sounds like a BIG one.
*I loved Ariel and Robert. They truly complete each other. Besides his past coming back to haunt them, there isn’t anything horrible between them. Their pasts are the only issues that complicate their relationship. Beyond that, their chemistry is palpable from the story; they are $exy incarnate. You’ll love Robert for his kind but dominating nature, for his compassion, for his adoration of Ariel. And you’ll love Ariel’s strength and her compassion to help The Lost Boys find their past in order to help their future. They are good people, good characters.
*Now, this story can be confusing in trying to determine what it is. There is definitely some romantic suspense here. Actually, I should say there is a lot of it. It’s got spycraft and intrigue for days. However, with that, it is also a BDSM story. I have to be honest. I struggled with the BDSM part because I’ve read a lot of those stories, like whole books focused on those relationships. And this reads as BDSM – light, and it feels slightly manufactured. Again, I didn’t read the first two books of this series, and I’m fairly certain I’m missing something here, but I didn’t think this needed to even be a part of the story. It’s like it added another confusing layer to the book. Don’t get me wrong. I love a good BDSM story. That isn’t the issue. It just seems like something that isn’t necessary. I’d love the romantic suspense espionage-type story on its own. But again, this is probably just me, a new reader of Lexi Blake.
There is so much to like about this book: the characters, the story, the $ex. I’m thankful that I accidentally signed up to read this book. It definitely grabbed my attention and kept me on the edge of my seat, so to speak. I recommend Lexi Blake’s Lost in You, but I do recommend reading the first of the series before doing so. I know it will make you appreciate this book even more.
AMAZING! I think The Forgotten is my favorite series by Lexi Blake! I fell like I have been waiting for Ariel and Robert’s story forever – it was totally worth the wait! It was everything I wanted it to be and so much more! LOVED!!
Ariel is a psychologist and a badass too. She works with the Lost Boys, a group of men who had their memories wiped out. They were being made into super soldiers by a mad woman. Robert is the leader of the Lost Boys and is starting to get flashes of his previous life. She wants a relationship with Robert but he sees her as someone who should be treated like glass. Ariel is keeping secrets that could destroy what she is trying to build with Robert. Ariel, Robert, and most of the Boys go on a fact finding mission in Munich but they find more than they bargained for. Robert’s past comes back into his life and Ariel tries to back away and let Robert figure out what is truth and what is not.
Great story with action, suspense, and secrets. A little BDSM and a little humor. I love reading this series and can’t wait to read about the rest of the Lost Boys. Ms. Blake sucks you in from the first page until the last.
OMG…Ariel and Robert’s story is here and it is one that you won’t want to put down. Lost In You is the third book in The Forgotten series and holy geez is this a series that will recommend to everyone!
As we have come to expect in this series, we get lots of danger, missions, secret agenda, uncovered truths, longing, and finally love. This story has many twists and turns that left me anxious to see what happens next. Both Ariel and Robert have pasts that are difficult to overcome and their attraction to each other is a tad forbidden, given their relationship but together they prove that anything is possible, if you want it bad enough.
This book can be read as a standalone as this author did a fantastic job of “filling in all the blanks” just in case you haven’t read the other books first. Once you finish it, you will want to go back and devour the first couple so get started right away!
Who is Dr. Ariel Adisa? How does she know Kimberly Solomon? How do they know Ezra/Beck? Who is Robert? What is going on and where are Ariel and Kimberly at? Why are they there? What do we learn about Robert from Ariel as she talks to Kim? When Ariel returns home, what do we learn about Robert from himself? What is he thinking and feeling? What happens at the fresh produce stand? Why does the gang go to Bavaria? What happens to Solo? What does Robert maybe start to wonder about after the late night gab fest with the boys? What does Levi give to Robert? Why? Who is Emily? How do we meet her? Holy smokes! I never would have guessed at who was the one people were looking for!!! See what happens by reading this story! The story ended nowhere near where I had expected it to end!
RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin’ With M. Brennan.
4.25 stars–LOST IN YOU is the third instalment in Lexi Blake’s contemporary, adult MASTERS AND MERCENARIES: THE FORGOTTEN erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on six former military soldiers (Jax, Dante, Sasha, Tucker, Owen and Robert) whose minds and lives were eradicated and erasedby a secret, military experiment. This is team leader Robert McClellan, and psychologist Ariel Adisa’s story line. The Forgotten is a spin-off from the author’s Masters and Mercenaries series where the characters were first introduced and played an important role throughout.
NOTE: If you have not read Lexi Blake’s original Masters and Mercenaries series, their may be some confusion as it pertains to the Lost Boys and their backstory.
WARNING: There are some BDSM scenes as well as Dom/sub sexual scenarios.
SOME BACKGROUND: Several months earlier, the mercenaries from the McKay-Taggart Black Ops group rescued, from an unauthorized military lab, run by Dr. Hope McDonald, six men they labelled the ‘Lost Boys’. With their memories wiped clean, no ID, and no traceable DNA, the Lost Boys were essentially ‘new born’ soldiers trained to kill and destroy. The Forgotten are their stories.
Told from several third person perspectives including Robert and Ariel LOST IN YOU continues to follow the search for the truth. As the resident psychologist struggling to bring back the memories of the men known as the ‘lost boys’, Dr. Ariel Adisa finds herself falling for one of their own but Robert McClellan battles between head and heart knowing his nightmares and night time PTSD are a threat to everyone including the woman with whom he has fallen in love. As the team of ‘Lost Boys’ and the members of McKay-Taggart continue to search for a mole in the group, Dr. Ariel Adisa begins to do some investigating of her own. What ensues is the building Dom/sub and romantic relationship between Ariel and Robert, and the fall-out as betrayal, vengeance and loss threaten to destroy them all.
Robert McClellan’s memories are few and far between but at times he falters between the present and the past. Falling in love with Dr. Ariel Adisa was never something he had considered but their first introduction brought about thoughts for a future, if only in his heart. Dr. Ariel Adisa keeps hidden a past that once revealed may destroy the trust she had developed with the men under her care. Reaching out to the people she once knew meant the possibility of opening doors that were meant to remain closed.
The relationship between Ariel and Robert is one of immediate attraction but Robert struggles with PTSD, flashbacks and the trauma of amnesia and the destruction of his previous life. Trying to protect the woman he loves, Robert struggles to keep his distance but our heroine needs to be dominated and Robert is the man for the job. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense with scenes of bondage, discipline and D/s scenarios.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including all of the ‘Lost Boys’ aka the Forgotten: Jax and River: Owen and Rebecca: Dante, Sasha, and Tucker as well as Big Tag; Theo Taggart, Ezra Fain and Kim ‘Solo’ Solomon. The requisite evil has many faces including the continuing struggles with Levi Green. Once again, the numerous names and nicknames given to the story line characters can, at times, be confusing and overwhelming.
LOST IN YOU is a story of betrayal, vengeance, secrets and lies. The premise is heart breaking, intriguing and suspenseful; the characters are broken, colorful and lost; the romance is seductive and captivating. Lives will be threatened and lost; friendships forged with be destroyed in an instant.
Ariel has some decidedly unprofessional feelings toward one of her patients, the delicious but damaged Robert McClellan. She knows she cannot possibly get involved with him – can’t give into their intense sexual tension, can’t play with him at the club. But when she finally decides she certainly can, he rejects her soundly.
Robert knew he shouldn’t get involved with the woman he was obsessed with back then, so he did the hardest thing he’d ever have to do, and rejected her. Now, much later, he’s finally conquered some of his demons and feels he’s ready to make Ariel his. The question is, will she let him claim her? More importantly, will her big secret, her past get in the way once they finally come together?
Although I haven’t read any of the other stories in this series, it was really easy to get into and understand what was going on in Lost in You. Robert and Ariel are a fascinating couple. I like their BDSM scenes – not too hardcore, but not really fluffy either. Their particular brand of Dom and sub work perfectly together and I like how their kinks played into the development and maturation of their relationship. Add in the suspense and intrigue of what’s going on with who the mole in their organization is, if Solo is really on their side, and what Lost in You presents is the kind of romantic suspense I like best – suspenseful, intriguing and action packed, super sexy, well-rounded, likable leads, all with a secondary cast that is just as interesting and fascinating as the leads. Now I’m just here waiting (impatiently) for Tucker’s story, Long Lost, to land on my Kindle in February!
