They survived the plane crash. Now the real danger begins.
Socialite, Abigail Mulholland, has spent a lifetime surrounded in luxury… until her scenic flight plummets into the remote Australian wilderness. When rescue doesn’t come, she finds herself thrust into a world of deadly snakes and primitive conditions in a landscape that is both brutal and beautiful. But trekking the wilds of Kakadu … the wilds of Kakadu means fighting two wars—one against the elements, and the other against the magnetic pull she feels toward fellow survivor Mackenzie, a much younger man.
Mackenzie Steel had finally achieved his dreams of becoming a five-star chef when his much-anticipated joy flight turned each day into a waking nightmare. But years of pain and grief have left Mackenzie no stranger to a harsh life. As he battles his demons in the wild, he finds he has a new struggle on his hands: his growing feelings for Abigail, a woman who is as frustratingly naïve as she is funny.
Fate brought them together. Nature may tear them apart. But one thing is certain—love is as unpredictable as Kakadu, and survival is just the beginning…

“The author has beautifully captured the power of nature and love in healing and empowering the soul.” ★★★★★ A Daily Romance
“I picked this book up based on a recommendation from a friend, she raved about how good it was, how great the characters were and almost incidentally how well written the sex scenes were, I was a bit sceptical, but I was wrong, so wrong, this book is all that and more. Survivors from a plane crash, they could not be more polar opposites, but circumstances make it so that they have to work together or they will die.” ★★★★★ Denise Webber
“Best book I have read in a long time. Story line is fresh. The writing is excellent – I feel as though I was there with them. Covered all the realms of emotion. Everyone should read.” ★★★★★ T Holleran.
“A totally amazing book that is full of plot twists and turns the entire way through. It has it all, romance, danger, excitement, fear, and a struggle for survival.” ★★★★★ Janie S
“Reading addict but first review. This story was just wonderful. I laughed, cried and worried about them both. I will contemplate this story for a long while.” ★★★★★ ProsiePosie
“The plot on this one has a few layers to it. It’s an adventure, it’s a ‘lose yourself to find yourself’, and it’s a romance. I have to point out right away that I loved how this story is rough and gritty around the edges both in the backdrop and the characters. This isn’t a glossed over and watered-down version of a story. It’s very descriptive of what it might really be like, deprivations and emotional swings and all for someone who is lost and presumed dead in a jungle hundreds of miles from civilization.” ★★★★★ Sophia Rose
“Wow! An absolutely stunning suspense in a highly unusual setting, Lost in Kakadu was brilliant.” ★★★★★ Brenda Telford

I have read several books by Kendall Talbot and loved each one for the strong characters despite their flaws, the world traveling I was able to do along them and for the suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat. Lost In Kakadu is her first book which I am just now reading. While this book is a good thriller of a survival story, it served to show me her growth as a writer; from where she started to what she superbly writes now.
It is easy to see that action-packed romance had an exciting new voice. Her ability to set the reader right down in the middle of the sights, sounds, smells and horrors of an Australian jungle plane crash is impressive. Taking the main characters from that fateful day to almost two years later is a study in character growth. The description states that these are opposites, Abigail and Mackenzie but even more it is one likable character with one extremely insecure bossy unlikable one. Early in the book when an important character dies, I remember thinking Ms. Talbot killed off the wrong one. However, Abigail’s growth is outstanding which couldn’t have happened without the time of survival.
Is this the best book, I have read written by Kendall Talbot? No, but even her not-my-personal-favorite book is still an amazing read. Lost In Kakadu gave me a lost in the jungle experience without having to do without a shower, and much to ponder, considering if I would rise to the occasion as Abigail did. She didn’t just survive but became a better person for the experience. If only we can all say we would do the same.
The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
LOST IN KAKADU. I love the cover art in this novel which caught my attention from the beginning.
4.5 Stars and recommended to readers of Proximity/Danger and Survivor trope novels.
MY RATING GUIDE: 1= dnf/What was that?; 2= Nope, not for me; 3= This was okay/cute; 3.5= I enjoyed it; 4= I LIKED IT A LOT!; 5= I Loved it, it was great! (I rarely give 5 Stars). LOST IN KAKADU, a Kendall Talbot novel, is a Survival, Proximity/Danger story, a favorite of mine. Well written Survival novels leave me with a sense of how blessed I am to be alive, whole and loved.
A small group of passengers board a commercial charter enroute to Australia’s Kakadu National Park for a 5 day nature tour. Among them is married, nearly 40, wealthy, particular and self-indulgent socialite Abigail Mulholland/FMC. Abigail is traveling with her philandering husband who planned the trip, originally meaning to travel with one of his lovers. Also among the passengers was a chef and business owner Mackenzie Steel/MMC, nearly 30, who is traveling with his best friend and lover Rodney. Less than an hour into the flight the aircraft experiences severe mechanical issues. The plane falters, immediately crashing into the trees of the heavily forested area below. There are only 3 survivors.
Proximity/Danger and Survivor novels cause me to question how I would act, what I would do if I was in a similar situation as the book characters. Abigail begins extremely insecure and yet also very self-absorbed. Her personal growth and development is believable and also enjoyable to behold. I would imagine anyone in such a situation would either become very angry and bitter, or by necessity adjust and grow. Entirely outside her comfort zone and feeling abandoned, Abigail reluctantly chooses the latter. Mackenzie reminds me of my husband – other than his bisexuality. Mackenzie is a rock, as the situation demands. Abi is extremely fortunate to have landed herself with him and Charlie, as the only survivors of the crash.
I truly enjoyed LOST IN KAKADU. It takes place over the course of 18mos to almost 2yrs. I understand other readers have been very harsh in their words regarding the FMC (and her relationship with her husband and her teenage daughter) and quit reading before the end. But IMHO, this is one of those novels where the journey is worth the time invested. I was touched by LOST IN KAKADU. I completed reading it in a few hours. This was my 1st Kendall Talbot novel and I will be checking out her other works in the future.
READER CAUTIONS – Not recommended to readers who prefer Clean fiction.
PROFANITY – Yes. Strong language is used.
VIOLENCE – None.
SEXUAL SITUATIONS – Yes. Explicit thoughts and language are used on occasion. Several open door intimacy scenes occur between the 2 MCs in the latter half of the novel which could be skipped by those who prefer.
I definitely recommend this survival-romance read. Lost in Kakadu is packed with tragic loss, adventure and drama with some passion sprinkled in.
Told through multiple character’s viewpoints, you get a sense of how each of the characters grow throughout their harrowing journey through the jungle, and how they each overcome loss, grief and find strength and comfort in each other and themselves.
This is a survival romance story. After a plane crash Abigail and Mackenzie have to survive the wild. The story has suspense action grief and Passion. I voluntarily reviewed this ARC
Lost in Kakadu – a review by Rosemary Kenny
Abigail Mulholland’s life as celebrity adventurer Spencer’s wife is shallow and unfulfilling. When she learns from one of her bitchy, gossiping so-called girlfriends that Spencer’s cheating on her with yet another ‘friend’, she guilt-trips him into taking her along on his next expedition to the Kakadu jungle.
Plagued by doubts after overhearing one of the small charter plane’s crew covertly arguing about the plane’s safety with two swarthy strangers, she tries to back out of the trip – but Spencer’s having none of it.
Of course the plane crashes and only Abigail, chef Mackenzie and an elderly botanist, Charlie survive – and the latter’s badly injured. Does he make it?
Trials of integrity, inner strength and sheer luck, help or hinder their struggle for survival, as rescue attempts to get back home seem ever less likely.
What unexpected cargo do Mackenzie and Abigail find? Why is the plane’s GPS disabled?
Gradually getting to know each other’s backstory and in Abi’s case facing her personal demons, plus working together to make the best of their circumstances, makes their ordeal more bearable.
Abi as she’s now happy to be called changes completely from an unhappy, flabby individual, to a toned, happy woman, fully-engaged with the world around her and feeling more alive than ever before.
She begins to appreciate how she let her daughter, Krystal become ‘remote’ and didn’t fight back against her husband and in-laws’ manipulations.
After an amazing rescue by native Australian rangers, she and Mackenzie are reconciled with Krystal, so that Abi at 40, can make a new start, with her new man, new baby son and a complete and loving family.
A heart-warming, sensitively explored and thrillingly realistic what if…? adventure by Kendall Talbot, that will make you examine and appreciate what gifts you have in your life and inspire you to make the most of your time with family and friends, enhancing each other’s lives with support, laughter and true loving care.

Exciting Jungle Adventure
A small group of tourists is off to spend a week in Kakadu National Park, Australia. The plane crashes and the few survivors are just trying to stay alive. They are so far from civilization and out of their comfort zones. They must dig deep into their character and give it their all or die. This is an exciting story that is hard to put down. All of it seems well within the realm of possibility. Having to rely totally upon your own skills to survive is a scary proposition and the story captures the fear, frustration, and emotional rollercoaster so well! I recommend this story to anyone who likes action/adventure and romantic/suspense all in one exciting book.
