“Ryder Creed—along with his dogs!—is a true inspiration: tough, smart, dynamic.” —James Rollins Fifteen years ago Ryder Creed’s sister, Brodie disappeared from an interstate rest stop. She was only eleven and Creed was fourteen. Since then her disappearance has haunted him, so much so, that Creed has dedicated his life to his K9 business. He rescues abandoned dogs and trains them for scent … business. He rescues abandoned dogs and trains them for scent detection. Together they search for the lost and missing.
A thousand miles away during a police raid, FBI special agent Maggie O’Dell stumbles upon a clue that may explain what happened to Brodie Creed all those years ago. The search and scavenger hunt that follows will be as gut-wrenching for Creed as are the answers he discovers.

One of the best in this series filled with wonderful dogs and interesting characters.
This book was well-written, but it dealt with a grim subject–human trafficking. In this case, the perpetrator only dealt in children. Ryder Creed’s sister was abducted from a busy rest area when the family stopped to wait for a rainstorm to clear. He was fourteen. She was eleven. And his mother was never the same after that. When his dad committed suicide, and Creed was the one who found him, Creed joined the military, hoping to escape his past. But he was sent to Afghanistan, and his present was just as bad. When he ended up in a military hospital and finally returned home, he became a dog handler, using canines for search and rescues and to sniff out whatever they were trained to find. When he learns that his profile friend, Maggie, is assigned to a case of trafficking, he asks to work with her, hoping to find his lost sister…or at least her remains. The author could have sensationalized every aspect of this story. Instead, she stayed in the POV of the professionals working the case. I liked that, but it also tamped down some of the angst of each step of the investigation and how heart-breaking the horror of child trafficking is. Maybe that’s a good thing. The story was difficult, as is.
This book stands alone, but if you are following the characters, more is revealed about “Creed” in the book.
Alex Kava is a great author. I’ve enjoyed all of the Creed books and can’t wait for a new one to come out. Her Maggie O’Dell books are great too.
I like the characters and the training of the dogs. The dogs are amazing with the things they can do.
I love Alex Cava books and especially the Creed series. This one answers some questions about his past and keeps you on the edge of your seat until the surprise ending. I love his relationship with his dogs!
Kava did a great job on human trafficking and the awful people who do this to other humans.
I have read the other Creed novels and loved them. This was the best so far. Thriller and mystery and an animal (trained scent dog) -what could be better? Great ending. I’m hooked!
Alex Kava’s Maggie O’Dell series which continues into this 4th book of the Ryder Creed series is excellent. The characters are extremely well developed, and you just never leave the edge of your seat. I read it in less than a day.
The subject is harrowing and unfortunately all-too real. Another epidemic our society needs to deal with urgently.
One recommendation: Even though this is a stand-alone novel, this one strongly builds on the previous 3 Ryder Creed books, so I would strongly recommend reading those first.
I have read all of Alex Kava’s books. I find her easy to read and yet she keeps my interest. Very Enjoyable
Ryder Creed, his K-9’s, and team/friends will quickly and easily find a place your heart. I have read all of the books in Alex Kava’s Creed series and can’t wait for the next one to be published. The books are well written and have just the right balance of suspense, action, and a little romance (occasionally). The characters are so vivid and they seem like people you would want to know.
Love the whole series! References to real places, keeps me wanting to find out what’s happening next.
Good read
Like most Kava books. Great read
Alex Kava does not disappoint me with any of her books. They are extremely well written and keep you engaged long after you have finished reading the story.
Big fan of all her books
Lost Creed is the fourth installment in author Alex Kava’s Ryder Creed series. 16 years ago, Brodie Creed, the younger sister of Ryder Creed, disappeared without a trace from a rest stop on the Georgia/Alabama border. For all those years, Ryder has never once given up hope of finding the reason why she disappeared, or the hope that she may still be alive
Profiler Maggie O’Dell and Ryder, a scent dog handler, are hunting down the victims and villains in a human trafficking ring in Nevada. Ryder and his terrier Grace have a personal interest in the search and emotions run high throughout the investigation. It helps to have read the other books in the series but enough is explained that this could be read as a stand-alone novel.
The ending just wasn’t enough; I was left feeling like there should have been a few more chapters. I recommend, but do warn the reader of this. Truly I’d give it 3 1/2 stars.
In this book Ryder Creed, who has been plagued by the unexplained disappearance of his sister, for a number of years finally gets his first lead as to what may have happened to her. Can he and Maggie O’Dell find out and maybe even find out if she is still alive or if the suspected worse case turns out to be true? It was another great book in the series by Alex Kava and I really enjoyed it a lot.
Enjoy the bond between dogs and handlers. Well written
Loved it
