NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • What might have been? That tantalizing question propels a woman on a cross-country adventure to reunite with the men she loved and let go, in Danielle Steel’s exhilarating new novel. It all starts with a fall from a ladder, in a firehouse in New York City. The firehouse has been converted into a unique Manhattan home and studio where renowned photographer Madison Allen … renowned photographer Madison Allen works and lives after raising three children on her own. But the accident, which happens while Maddie is sorting through long-forgotten personal mementos and photos, results in more than a broken ankle. It changes her life.
Spurred by old memories, the forced pause in her demanding schedule, and an argument with her daughter that leads to a rare crisis of confidence, Maddie embarks on a road trip. She hopes to answer questions about the men she loved and might have married—but didn’t—in the years after she was left alone with three young children. Wearing a cast and driving a rented SUV, she sets off to reconnect with three very different men—one in Boston, one in Chicago, and another in Wyoming—to know once and for all if the decisions she made long ago were the right ones. Before moving forward into the future, she is compelled to confront the past.
As the miles and days pass, and with each new encounter, Maddie’s life comes into clearer focus and a new future takes shape. A deeply felt story about love, motherhood, family, and fate, Lost and Found is an irresistible new novel from America’s most dynamic storyteller.

I fell in love with Maddie’s story in Lost And Found by Danielle Steel. What I didn’t like was the verbal attack her oldest daughter, Deanna did on her mother. No wonder the mother decided to get away and take a road trip across the United States stopping to check up on old boyfriends. Kudos to her to go away and when she wanted to stop and enjoy the country. I’m sure being an amazing, well-known photographer helped on her decision. She also stopped to see her other two children and finding out more about their lives, which also helped her on rethinking about her life. The people she met along the way also intrigued me in reading this very emotional book. Thank you Danielle Steel for an amazing read!
Lost and Found is a story about a women’s self-reflective journey. Maddie Allen is a famous photographer who is divorced and on her own after raising her three children. She does not have a close relationship with any of her kids, and Maddie leads a quiet life focusing on her work where she excels. Maddie loves her home which is a converted firehouse with a spiral staircase and where she has her studio and offices on the ground floor. After breaking her ankle in a fall and a dress down from her eldest daughter, Maddie decides to take a trip. She wants to see if the choices she made in the past were the right ones. It also allows Maddie to reflect on her life, lay old ghosts to rest and see what the future holds for her. Lost and Found reminds me of Danielle Steel’s earlier books. It is a light women’s fiction story with a heaping helping of romance and a splash of fairy tale (happily ever after). I like the author’s relaxed writing style. It makes the story easy to read and it has a smooth flow. I did not understand how Maddie could let her daughter run roughshod over her and be intimidated by Deanna’s words. Of course, critical comments from family affect us more than remarks from others. There is a significant amount of repetition in the first half of the book. After a while, I knew the information by heart (a little rewriting would have dramatically improved this book). As Maddie’s journey progresses, the story improves. I was especially moved by her Wyoming visit. There were some heartwarming scenes that were touching. I liked seeing the characters develop and the changes in various relationships. I agree with Maddie when she said. “strange things happen in life when you don’t expect them”. Sometimes it helps to look back before moving forward. Lost and Found is sweet story about reflection, family, romance, and choices.
Very predictable. A high schooler could have written it.
I love all of Daniell Steels books so this was no surprise that I loved this book. I loved the story line and the characters. It kept my attention and I found it hard to put down. Another great book of Daniells.
It seems as if whenever I pick up one of her books, the subject matter really connects with a piece of my life that is impacting me at the time I am reading. Cheaper – and more enjoyable than a therapist!

Very good. Definitely up to what you expect from Danielle Steele’s writing.
This book is a fun read that has enough surprises in an entertaining story line with great characters to take it beyond a good book to one that makes me think about my own life and ask questions.
Danielle Steele is always a reliable source of good books. This book fits the bill. The heroine is a successful woman photographer who is widowed, mother and grandmother. She drives cross country for some closure with 3 past loves that got away. This was an easy, enjoyable read
I loved, loved, LOVED this book. So refreshing to read about a mature woman dealing with life beyond “bad hair days”. I didn’t want the book to end!
Classic Danielle Steel. Loved it

A good book for getting out of your head and enjoying someone else’s story
I read a lot of Danielle Steele. This was not one of the best. Somewhat boring.
Interisting, very moving, and hard to put the book down
Lost and Found by Danielle Steel
What I like right from the start is the lead character is into photography.
Madison has raised her 3 kids and then bought the old firehouse to live in.
She’s competitive with fashion and design…her children are all different: one likes fashion, one design, one business.
She hoped to get the kids and their kids to spend time around the Christmas holidays but the firehouse stairs and pole were not the right places for young child.
Other children grew up and do very well in their jobs and in their kids. They are too wrapped up in their lives to even call the other siblings or their mother.
Kinda sad, her life and she makes a choice while cleaning out a closet and seeing letters from the men who loved her and after breaking her ankle she’d go visit each of them.
She knows after visiting the first two that she had made the right choice and followed her dreams by letting them go.
Third man who bought land and created his own ranch in WY was the one she was too late for.
She decided then to just go visit the kids in CA. Love the travel and wish there were more time she had spent there describing it all.
Ben her son the one who spent more time reaching out to her wants her to come visit. His wife is too busy for a visit and he puts his foot down that he will spend time with her.
She heads to Big Sur to relax and meets a man from England and they take a liking to one another.
Love the time she gets to spend with her kids before heading back to NY for work. It’s a wonder a severe world wide catastrophe brings them back to one another..
Some sex scenes but love the locations.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
Maddie, mother of three grown children is a photographer who heads out on a cross country trip. A fall off a ladder, a broken ankle and a daughter who tries to take over her mother’s life has convinced Maddie it’s time to reconnect and reevaluate life. I love the way Maddie takes her life back and comes back home stronger and better than before. Although it took me a while to get into this book once I did it the story pulled me in and left me cheering Maddie on. Great writing, believable characters and a finding yourself journey make this a must read.
