So disjointed and rambling that I deleted it.
Good read
Really enjoyed this book with all the suspense ad surprises.
Tried on more than on occasion to read this book. Just couldn’t get into it. Sorry
Oddly intense!
The premise was interesting and there was definitely a lot of suspense and action. September Day is in the middle of her radio show when her sister calls in to say her autistic son and his service dog are missing in the blizzard that is raging outside. The elderly babysitter fell asleep and Steven and Shadow left the house. September rushes to her sisters house to help in the search but when she arrives, April introduces her to Lizzie, Steven’s “therapist” who is also there to help but keeps hinting at some mysterious object that April needs to find first, When April leaves the house, Lizzie remains behind just long enough to shoot the babysitter. This is the start of a bizarre series of events and a string of murders while September desperately searches for her nephew.
The story seems disjointed at the beginning but gets better as you start to figure out how the pieces relate. I did not like many of the characters except Teddy, Freda, Pam and the dogs – I loved the dogs, especially Shadow. The rest of the characters made me want to grab them by the throat and shake them because they were too wrapped up in their own issues to care about anyone else. I received the book free but my review is honest and voluntary.
I liked this book, but found it hard to read and kind of plodding at times.
I read this book maybe about a year ago. I loved it so much I had to get the second installment. The characters are really great, I liked the insight given of all the people. I really began to dislike her sister, the one that was taking care of her son. The dog was my hero, I just loved reading about his heroic deeds. I am so sorry that I haven’t gotten to the third book, I had discovered a new genre, and have gotten lost in the mix. I promise to read it before the next year is gone. Please keep up the magnificent work that you are doing to bring untold joy to your fans. Thank you for keeping me entertained.
At first, it was very slow pace, but I kept at it. I am glad I did. If the author were to write another book, I would read it!
Really enjoyed this book . quick read and will read more books by the same author
Great characters, especially like the animal character build by author.
The story is tense and develops well.
Got bored
I like a book that takes you into the characters and their experiences. If the writer could get more involved in it as if she’s living the experience, instead of telling about it, this could be a really good book.
So glad I decided to buy this book! Very original story with a twist!
Highly recommended
PG 13
Some strong language, but no F-bombs – how refreshing is that?
No sex
Violence – usually unexpected. I wouldn’t rate it graphic violence, but it comes close. If you can read Dean Koontz’s books you can read this.
We come to like and care for the main characters. The author uses humor in having named them after months of the year explaining that their quirky parents thought it was a great idea. Therefore we have September – the main character, her sister April, and reference to another sister who does not come into the story but whose name is May or June. April and September have a complicated relationship based on something that happened in the past for which September “owes” April.
Additionally we can be inspired by how well a companion dog can be trained. I personally liked when the story occasionally shifted to Shadow’s point of view.
Plot – September is called upon by her sister, April, to help her find her autistic son, accompanied by his companion dog. The boy, Steven, has wandered away during a severe snowstorm. Complicating the search are a group of ruthless individuals promoting a new medication for autism, and who do not want information leaked – information that April has obtained. Steven is in danger not only from the cold but from those who would kidnap him for their own purposes.
The story is fast-paced, suspenseful, and satisfying.
There are sequels, but rest assured, this book does not end leaving you feeling compelled to get the next one.
Buy or borrow with confidence.
This book held my interest as I teach special education and often have students who have been diagnosed with autism. Also both my daughters suffer from Raynaud’s Syndrome as does the main character in this book. I did feel that the ending left more to be discovered. I will look for a sequel.
Trigger warning. This book involve several murders and attempted murders.
It is difficult to rate this book. Been thinking about it for a few days.
Good:
The dog POV was wonderful!
The way they pulled off the radio personality throughout the book was great.
Bad:
Police procedures need some work.
Spoiler alert: A few issues.
The scene with the policeman in the radio room would never happen that way. The DJ would have been arrested, and the sound man too. If it could happen, the world might be a better place.
At the end of the book, the main character would have faced charges. Even if they were dropped. It would still have been mentioned.
Not much
I loved the characters, especially the dog.
The dog’s point of view was hilarious and yes probably pretty accurate.
characters are awful….nothing to enjoy or like about this book…even the dog is not treated well in the written verse….bad, bad, bad
too scary for me
