Alexandra Winifred has played a supporting role in her cousin’s life since they were children. When Lauren Water’s parents are killed in a plane crash, Alexandra becomes her protector, and together they navigate their way through childhood and college. They’re both overachievers, but it’s Lauren who steals the spotlight when she’s discovered by a notable agent and goes on to become an … award-winning actress, leaving Alexandra in her shadow as her fledgling publicist.
Now Hollywood royalty, Lauren starts to cut those people out of her life who were responsible for her success. Alexandra fears she will be next on the chopping block. But her trepidation about her failing relationship with her cousin becomes her least concern when she’s identified as a prime suspect in Lauren’s subsequent disappearance. Detective Rachel Storme, who has a full plate taking care of a parent with Alzheimer’s and supervising a meth-addicted aunt, is eager to get her hands on a challenging case, but nothing could prepare her for the dark secrets and lies that she uncovers while she does everything in her power to find out what happened to Lauren.

Lauren and Alex the only discord between them is Larry. Why she doesn’t dump him, he was a cheater, Lauren tells her. Alex is the protector, behind Lauren, while she is the limelight. With Lauren and a ten carat diamond, she doesn’t want to talk about Brad. Then she mentions having nightmares, and changes she was going to be making. When Lauren goes missing Alex is the prime suspect. One wonders was it a publicity stunt,
Good twisted plot, full of intrigue as Detective Rachel figures out what happened.
I very much enjoyed this book & will probably read it again. I had no problem keeping up with the characters individual stories and keeping the story tellers in order. I will look for more by this author. I’m so thankful for bookbub for giving me the chance to find so many new authors to read.
If you think you know “whodunit”, you may just be wrong…
I enjoyed the anticipation of what was happening next. Unable to put this story down. Must read if you enjoy physchologic thrillers.
interesting perspective – from the detective and from one of the suspects
Good read
Exciting. Surprised with ending.
Lots of twist and turns.Stay up reading it from cover to cover.
A fairly quick read that kept you thinking ahead the snares that situations cause and the huge effects that come about for those involved
Too bad about the lack of editing/proofreading.
This book was excellent. It kept you guessing all the time. And wondering what was going to happen next
Slow reading for me. Couldn’t keep focused or interested.
Didn’t like it.
Love it! Can’t wait to read more from this author!
suspensful
If you like to guess ‘who done it’ this is a great book for you to read. The storyline is so completely unpredictable, you can’t possibly guess.
A real whodunnit! Kept me guessing!
Had me locked in until the end.
It was a good read with a very surprise ending.
I liked a lot of things about the book, but there were some characters who came to figure prominently in the book that I couldn’t like. Obviously, in a whodunit there has to be at least one unlikable person, but these particular characters were quite unlikable. It rather spoiled the likable parts of the story for me, and I don’t think I would recommend it to others on this basis alone.
