In this sexy reunion story by Rachael Stewart, Cain O’Connor was the family outcast–now he’s come back to claim the family business…and the woman he can’t forget. I was always the black sheep of my family. My father blatantly favoring my brother in our family’s business empire was the last straw. I had to leave, even if that meant deserting the love of my life, Alexa. What I didn’t expect was … expect was for her to betray me, too…by falling into the arms of my brother.
Now my brother and father have died in an accident, and Alexa is leading our family business during the crisis. Having made my own billions, I finally have the chance to return and claim what’s rightly mine–the family business and the woman who traded me for it.
But my revenge is derailed by the raging chemistry between me and Alexa, which is hotter than ever before. Working side by side with her, I struggle to control my feelings–and then I discover a secret that sheds new light on Alexa’s betrayal. But even if I bring myself to forgive her, is it too late to try again?

A Second Chance romance with undeniable attraction
You’ll be drawn into the story of Cain and Alexa from the start when we meet Cain at his father and brother’s funeral. Cain left 7 years before after his father’s decree leaving behind Alexa, his fiancée who married his brother shortly after. Alexa struggles to keep the family business afloat amid dissension from the board and investors. Yet when Cain returns to help Alexa, the feelings of old are hard to keep buried. What will happen with Alexa’s kept secrets and Cain’s sense of betrayal? You have to read to find out and will be rooting for the two to put the past behind them!
Losing Control is a second chance romance focusing on Cain, who separated from his family several years ago but returned to help save the family’s business after the death of his brother and father, and Alexa, who refused to leave with him in the past and married his brother leaving Cain heartbroken. This well written novel has an emotional and heartbreaking storyline with betrayal, deception, lies, misunderstandings, and steamy chemistry. I recommend this fantastic book.

This emotional but sweet second chance starts out with an instant re-connection and intense chemistry between Cain and Alexia, when Cain comes back to run the family business after his father and brother dies. I had a hard time connection with Alexia, she comes across as illogical, selfish and immature especially with her marriage to Cain’s brother and the reason she gives. I felt that she lacked depth and development and some situations could have done with some more explanations, descriptions and background. I loved Cain and I honestly felt at times that he deserved better than Alexia. That being said the writing was excellent, lots of emotions and a good engaging read.

Losing Control is a sexy, emotional, character-driven story, and for me it read like a Harlequin Presents meets a Harlequin Dare. The high drama – pregnancy, deception, withholding of secrets, sudden disappearances – are hallmarks of a Presents, while the high-powered exec heroine and the heat level are definitely Dare. Cain is a great, moody hero, and I was very drawn in by the burden of his regrets about the years he spent away, not only from Lexi but also from his brother and father. I loved this book and can’t wait to read Rachael Stewart’s next one!
4 1/2 STARS!
A passionate reunion filled with emotion, angst and oh so many feels! LOSING CONTROL by Rachael Stewart brings so many feelings to the surface you won’t know which way to turn for a bit. There’s abandonment, loss and betrayal but behind it all there’s a steadfast love that never died and a sweet future just waiting to be lived. I really enjoyed their story!
Cain O’Conner is a joy to read. He’s self-assured, but beneath it all he’s that son still blighting from the feeling of never matching up to his perfect brother. He never expected that his first trip home after walking away from them all years ago would be for the dual funeral of his father and brother.
Alexa is easy enough to like, but there was a small part of me that was annoyed with how she handled the years after Cain left her. I understood her pain and despair, but I wanted her to pick up the pieces and actually live her life faster. Now that he’s returned, the flair of attraction is raging and secrets are about to be uncovered.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a romance filled with sensuous attraction but also mixed with a lot of emotion and heart.
There are lies, hurt, deception, and the promise of starting over and getting a second chance. I was sucked in and was glad I took a chance and picked this up.
This book had my emotions all over the place when Cain leaves his family and the love of his life Alexa after his father always favored his brother. Years later when his father and brother are killed his mother convinces him to return to help Alexa run run the family company. There is betrayal and secrets that have been kept and Cain and Alexa have a hot chemistry between them that they can not deny. What will happen when these secrets are revealed?
*calls out*
Can someone get the door for me please? My hands are full…
Oh, you are an angel *mwah*.
*drops box on floor*
Sheesh, that thing is heavy!
What was that? Oh this? *points at box*
Well… ta-da! *turns box around with a flourish*
This is the LOSING CONTROL SURVIVAL BOX! What else? *shrugs*
*rummages in box*
We have:
1. A box of tissues – trust me, they are very much needed for this moving story!
2. Bridget pants for when you think you can’t go on. Push through, peeps – push through!
3. A cuddle cushion – I needed a hug so bad, so this was the perfect substitute.
4. Snacks! *brandishes crisps, nuts, and chocolate* I can’t be the only one who stress eats – surely?!
And, finally, *whips out a jar* this is for the author not us. It’s to collect our tears… *whispers* coz she’s twisted like that *winks*.
Think you know DARE romance? Think again! Losing Control is a second-chance romance, but not as you know it. Cain and Alexa’s story grapples with a very sensitive subject, but in Rachael Stewart’s trademark style she handles it with all the care and empathy I’ve come to expect from her writing. This lady writes direct from the heart and you feel that in every single word.
Pain can manifest itself in ugly ways. Until Cain returns home to face events from his past, he will never know peace. Home is more than a place, it’s a feeling, a belonging – it just is *shrugs*. Returning home also means facing Alexa and heartbreak.
Alexa is one of those characters you want to bundle up in cotton wool. Now don’t get me wrong, when it comes to business, she is more than capable but emotionally her inner turmoil is pulling her to shreds. Cain’s return brings it all to the fore. Yet maybe that’s a good thing – for them both?!
Ugh, they say there is beauty in the pain and although I feel like I’ve been through the emotional wringer, Cain and Alexa were worth it.
With all the heat I’ve come to expect from a DARE read, Losing Control proves that once you give your heart away it’s no longer yours to control. Neither time nor distance will change this fact!
He left his family and the woman that held his heart in her hands because his father favored his brother. It made him feel as if he was second best to everyone he loved. So, he left to find his own path in life, and he made a name for himself. He was rich, had his own company that was well known, and he lived his life on his own terms. Everything changed when his father and brother died in a tragic accident. Now he had to return home to be there for his mother when she buried her husband and one son. His return not only threw his life in a turmoil, but also Alexa’s, the only woman he has ever loved in his life. There is so much between these two that needs to be cleared up and it could either destroy them or bring them back together.
I enjoyed this story of Cain O’Connor’s path in life and his detour in his life to regain what he lost seven years ago. His strength, power, and confidence will be tested when he has to work with Alexa side by side day in and day out, to keep the family business going. Cain will discover that he can still love and that his heart still belongs to Alexa. This story is about second chances and finding it within oneself to understand the reasons a parent does what they do, even when the child doesn’t understand at the time, age and life bring them to the understanding. Unfortunately, it is too late for Cain and his father to repair the broken bridge, but Cain is willing to repair what he can with his mother. He needs to look within himself though to find the strength to follow the path with Alexa again so they can have a future.
I give this story a 3.5-star review and suggest it to readers that enjoy second chance at romance, rich powerful men, and families that were broken at one point. It has tragedy, secrets, and people that conspire to bring two people together that should have never been separated.
