I absolutely loved these books. They were captivating and kept me turning the pages. I could actually feel their happiness and joy as well as their sadness and sorrow. I am looking forward to reading more of your books.
Three of Henrietta Harding charming books.
Do yourself a favor and pick up this collection it has three of Henrietta Harding charming books. “A Guardian for the Ravishing Countess” is Amelia Wright and Alexander Wentworth’s story. “The Mischievous Plan of a Fiery Lady” has Isabella Desmarais forced to go to England to marry Thomas Wilmington who is to marry because of a massive debt he inherited. Then finally there is “The Irresistible Allure of a Lady Spy” has Mary Warwick and Isaac Ollerton together. All the couples face twists and turns that no faint heart could endure yet that is just what the author does to her characters. There is just one word to descript it and that is outstanding!! I highly recommend this charmer come on three fab stories in one book how can you go wrong!
This 3 Book collection had well written storylines and characters that were written with such great detail and depth which made this box set a very enjoyable and entertaining read!
A Guardian for the Ravishing Countess:
I love reading a story with a strong no-nonsense heroine. Amelia Wright is a kick-@ss heroine. She grew up respecting all around her regardless of station or class. She does have a temper but did learn to control it. She is wise beyond her years. She was a young lady when she arrived in England. In several short months she turned into a responsible mistress of her inherited estate and became a woman to be reckoned with, respected and admired. Alexander Wentworth, Duke of Wentworth, is an older man. He is 15 years Amelia’s senior. He has a reputation of being a wise, kind and thoughtful man. He is well respected by his staff and the people that live on his properties. Alexander is a loving father to his young daughter. When Amelia and Alexander meet sparks fly. Even though this is an older man younger woman situation, the way it is written brings much needed maturity to this sub-genre. There were a few times Amelia showed her young ways. However, most of the time she exemplified herself as a equal to Alexander. This story is refreshing to read. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The Mischievous Plan Of A Fiery Lady
I have read several of Ms. Harding’s books and enjoyed them, however this one disappoints. DECEIT: the quality of being dishonest or misleading. For the first third of the book I was not enamored with Isabella. She appeared prideful, spoiled and entitled. It did not sit well with me how hard she tried to deceive Thomas only to fall into his arms at every opportunity when she was acting as the maid. Thomas being a duke, should have known better than to dally with the staff. It did not do him any credit how he disregarded and disrespected the arrangement he had to wed Isabella’s faux mistress. I started skipping through the dialogue as it was becoming tedious to me. Isabella found out why Thomas agreed for the marriage. It was because her father was to pay all his debt. She became indignant. Which I found funny because she was deceiving him. She was not so innocent in the relationship either. When her malfeasance and duplicity was uncovered everything fell apart. Her heart was in grave danger. Despite this I had a hard time mustering up any sympathy for Isabella. I felt bad for Thomas. If the purpose of the author was to incite displeasure for Isabella’s character, she succeeded. At about three quarters of the way into the book, it finally became interesting enough so that my full attention was on each page. When I read the epilogue, thankfully it ended with an HEA. Then when I read the extended epilogue, I did not want the story to end.
The Irresistible Allure of a Lady Spy:
Wow… talk about intrigue, suspense, drama and tension so thick you could cut it with a knife. This story had it all. A Cinderella story with a twist. We have Mary Warwick. A single mother of a four-year-old Rebecca working as a barmaid. She unintentionally becomes involved in a conversation with Sir Francis Ollerton also known as the Spymaster who was with his son Isaac Ollerton. They were discussing a top-secret case and coming up with no solutions when Mary offered her opinion. Sir Ollerton was taken aback that Mary had been listening in. But Isaac thought the idea had merit. It took some time to convince his father of the idea. One issue that could potentially present a problem was that Isaac was attracted to Mary and she to him. But he put that aside to get to his objective and that was to recruit Mary into becoming a spy and help him on his case. It meant Mary would leave everything she knew behind her. But it also provided her daughter a better future. So, she agreed to work for Isaac and his father. She went from being Mary the barmaid to Miss Cecilia Overheim, a seductress of the ton. Her job was to train for the next few months learning the ways of becoming a high bred lady and successfully gain the interest of Lord Reginald Talbot, the Earl of Coventry. The Earl is suspected of many illegal crimes. Yet Sir Ollerton has not been able to find any evidence to prove it. It was now up to Mary to infiltrate his inner circle and gather intelligence and hopefully evidence against him. This story is very exciting. It is full of emotion and passion. It highlights the risks and danger that follows spy work and how one must calculate every word and action to illicit the desired response. The characters were thrilling, exhilarating and realistic and just like in the Cinderella story she got her prince. An excellent read and I highly recommend it.
