THE DUKE’S SURPRISE by Meara Platt
BLURB : Cheyne Lyon, Duke of Mar isn’t surprised when his wastrel brother dumps a wife and baby on his doorstep, but Jennifer is intelligent, nurturing, and sweet, just the sort Cheyne could love, if only she wasn’t already taken. When unsavory strangers come around looking for a runaway young lady, Cheyne realizes Jennifer isn’t who she claims to be, and he isn’t about to give her up.
MY REVIEW :
Will her lies doom their burgeoning attraction…
This first novella is a sweet tale with two characters having to hide their awakening feelings.
Jenny is on the run, with a child to protect so his family is her best option, a good way to hide herself from those looking for her.
But she never expected to fall for the man who offers her shelter, how can she repay him for his kindness when she lied to him.
Lyon feels guilty for being attracted to his brother’s wife, if she is as some doubts gnaw at him. Soon he must face he has fallen for her.
Their relationship quickly moves to something deeper even with each one holding back their sentiments and secrets. They are cute likable characters with a sweet little boy to bring them together.
4 stars
THE SCOT’S BAIRN by Tabetha Waite
BLURB : Damaris Honeywell suffers from an unwanted betrothal. Her solution? Ruin her reputation. But one night with a handsome Scotsman leads to certain…complications that can’t be ignored. When Callum Murray, Laird O’Donogue encounters her again, he intends to show her that they are meant to be.
MY REVIEW :
When a passionate encounter leads to a more permanent souvenir, will they find their again to one another…
What a lovely read this novella was!
I loved both Damaris and Callum.
Damaris took a very incalculable risk and alas, the price to her freedom might’ve heavier than she expected.
She was naive as many young women from her time, but I loved she was strong to accept her fate and willing to rethink her future.
Whatever the sheltered life she had priorly, she is ready to find her own way even in her new condition.
Callum is such a lovable man, not the one to sprout poems but with his acts he shows his respect and attraction.
While their encounters was twice unexpected, it was surely a trick of fate as they are definitively made for one another.
Even with this novella format, Mrs Tabetha Waite allows her characters a soul and a life of own.
5 stars.
EARL OF SIN by Tammy Andresen
BLURB : The Earl of Sinclair vowed never to marry again. But when a pretty spinster befriends his daughter, he begins to wonder.
MY REVIEW :
Will her desire to help be her downfall or salvation …
Oh great!
I so wanted to read more about Sinclair after the debacle in Earl of Exile.
So even if it is the last installment in the Lords of Scandal series, I am very happy to know he gets his own story as I was very sorry for him despite his deeds when he was first introduced.
He is a father and for his daughter, he will do anything even betray his kin if it means she is safe. Since, he over reacted and put his daughter in a gilded cage, but still a cage.
Why he is so afraid to open his heart again, fear of losing again.
Mary has the opposite reaction, her loss brought a need for her to live life at the fullest, she has to feel alive, useful. She failed as a debutante, but if she can give a new meaning to her spinster life, she thinks she will be satisfied enough.
This novella is a lovely conclusion to the series, even if I have still two books to read, I loved the meddling kin and the cute little girl.
5 stars
THE PERFECT LITTLE MARQUESS by Annabelle Anders
BLURB : His father dies before turning forty. His oldest brother, the original heir, turns up his toes at the age of two and thirty. And this year, the spare gets shot in a duel at the tender age of eight and twenty. Things aren’t looking good for this third–son–turned–heir. The new duke of Warwick needs to secure the line… And quickly!
MY REVIEW :
Will their hasty marriage be their salvation or doom …
Whatever Mrs Annabelle Anders writes, I have not once been disappointed. Short or long, all her stories are so moving and breathtaking with damaged heroes. And here, I feel deeply the pain and hurt of Christian and Lillian.
Even if he is wrong, Christian is so sure of his impending death, he might even unknowingly call it to him. Because of it, he is trapped in the present, unable to project himself in the future.
His only goal is to secure his sister’s avenir and his blood line.
Lillian has few dreams, but she wishes for her independence. Thus her answering what she thinks is the perfect opportunity for her. And while she should have questioned more at length if she was making the right choice, she took matter in hands and her new husband, whatever his flaws, is a man who stirs deep feelings from her. If only he could accept for them to have a destiny together.
I do not know how she does that but Mrs Annabelle Anders infuses her characters with such blood and flesh they appear real, poignant in their dealing of their fears.
A big fat 5 stars for Their Perfect Baby.
THE SUBSTITUTE LOVER by Merry Farmer
BLURB : Lord Benedict Killian needs an heir of his own blood as fast as possible, but he has no intention of marrying. Disgraced Miss Suzanne Porterfield needs money, and a lot of it, to start a new life. Agreeing to a deal to conceive a child for Benedict to pass off as his own seems like an easy solution for both of their problems. Until the red-hot passion between them proves irresistible.
MY REVIEW :
Will his scandalous proposal be the end or the beginning of them together …
I sometimes find Mrs Merry Farmer’s novella a bit on the silly side, and while here the villain is bordering craziness, and Suzanne makes some errors, they are not those which make me cringe.
Their relationship is sweet and scorching while they learn to know one another but as the reason for Benedict’s demande stands between them, will their burgeoning affections get a chance.
It was a fun and entertaining read with plenty of actions and very peculiar side characters.
4.5. stars
And…

This was a wonderful collection of short stories that kept me throughly entertained. Scarlett Scott’s was my favorite of the bunch. It ties into her Wild Winter’s series and throughly had me entranced. Definitely one to pick up for a very enjoyable afternoon read!
Wooed in Winter, by Scarlett Scott: I received an ARC of this book by Scarlett and this is my honest review. This was a beautiful story of lost, but not forgotten, love. I loved everything about this book, the love/hate relationship, the shared past, the dialogue …it was great! While it was a short story, you still get Scarlett’s beautiful narrative, great love scenes and it doesn’t feel rushed. I could not put this one down.
The other stories in this novels are also a great read. These short stories are a quick read and all include babies…who doesn’t love babies?!! I always enjoy a story that gives an epilogue to include an update on the growing family.
This was a great anthology with a star studded line up of authors!!
The Duke’s Surprise by Meara Platt
4 1/2 stars
Starring Cheyne Lyon, Duke of Mar and Jenny Bramwell. Heroine in disguise trope.
I really loved this novella. Cheyne believes Jenny and baby belong to his brother… Jenny knows that once he discovers the truth, Cheyne will ask her to leave. I know, right?! I love the tension as they fight off their attraction for one another. But when Cheyne and Jenny do finally got together, it’s very sweet and totally made me smile. Definitely gave me all the feels. I mean, really, gotta love a big and yummy Scottish hero.
So many wonderful characters in this story that made it enjoyable. Even the servants were a hoot. But little Johnny’s nappies and spittle PLUS two of Cheyne’s brothers = an awesome laugh fest!! And the annual swim/spyglass scene had me doubling over!!
Meara Platt is a fabulous author and I love everything she writes.

The Scot’s Bairn by Tabetha Waite
5 stars
Starring Miss Damaris Honeywell and Callum Solomon Murray, Laird O’Donogue. Need a rake to break a betrothal trope.
What’s Damaris to do when she needs to break off her betrothal to an odious lord? Why, go to a Cyprian Ball and find herself a rake to ruin her, of course. Not only does her plan work… (and she spends one night of amazing passion with Callum) but she leaves that night with a wee keepsake… that causes her to get banished to Scotland.
I enjoyed every single second I spent with this novella…. and I was SO ugly crying AF at the end. Totally loooooove Damaris and Callum!! These two made my toes curl with their deliciousness. And I love that fate definitely brought them together… twice!! Totally destined for each other. Le sigh!
Tabetha Waite’s stories are definitely Squeeeeee-worthy!! Her books are amazing.

The Earl of Sin by Tammy Andresen
4 1/2 stars
Starring Lord Colbert “Sin”/“Cole” Sinclair, Earl of Sinclair and Miss Mary Chase. Governess and Lord, spinster, and matchmaking friends tropes.
This was a heartfelt story of moving on from tragedy…. and not letting fear direct your life. Both Sin and Mary have suffered loss and have embraced the guilt and worry that comes from it. Together they will heal each other as they explore their attraction and finally give in to love. Totally enjoyed watching Mary and Sin find their HEA… they deserve every happiness coming their way. I also loved Anne, Sin’s daughter. She was a wonderful bundle of energy.
My first Tammy Andresen experience and I loved it. It’s part of a series so did not know some of the characters and events that were discussed, but it didn’t take away from the story… and it did get me intrigued enough to look for her other titles.
*New to me author and I can’t wait to “discover” her other stories.

The Perfect Little Marquess by Annabelle Anders.
5 Stars
Starring Christian Masterson, Duke of Warwick and Lady Lillian Prentiss. Married in haste trope.
Christian thinks his time on earth is limited, so he is taking extra steps to ensure his sister will be taken care of after his demise. Which means he needs a bride and an heir NOW!! Lillian enters his life unexpectedly but fortuitously. She thinks Christian is ill and dying… so she agrees to his terms to a possible short term marriage. Failure to communicate and misunderstandings have them re-evaluating their marriage… especially when strong emotions start to enter the mix.
Omg… I was an ugly crying AF, completely puffy eyes mess right up to the last word. This novella will absolutely punch you in the feels!! I actually read this story twice… and I ugly cried AF, TWICE!! Christian and Lillian are a wonderful pair. I’m glad that they both chose to live in love and hope… and cherish every single second life gives them. I cheered for their HEA.
Annabelle Anders just keeps writing hits…. and I happily continue to gobble them up.

The Substitute Lover by Merry Farmer
4 stars
Starring Lord Benedict Killian and Miss Suzanne Porterfield. Mutual arrangement trope.
Benedict needs a baby to win back an old flame…. Suzanne needs money and protection ASAP. Together they make an arrangement that meets both their needs. But somewhere along the way the heart gets involved and things get a little complicated… but that the way love is, right?!
Benedict and Suzanne where definitely a hawt couple and I enjoyed their road to HEA. I love that they got to know one another in the months during her pregnancy. Oh and there’s a villain involved to add intrigue and tension in the story.
I discovered Merry Farmer last year (2019). This is only my 3rd story from her. I can’t wait to read her other titles.

Wooed in Winter by Scarlett Scott
4 1/2
Starring Graham, Marquess of Haven and Hannah, Countess of Fawkesbury. Past lovers and Second chances tropes.
Wowza!! Graham and Hannah are freaken Haaaaaaawt, y’all!! Torn apart lovers… and grudges… but the passion is still there… oh my!! Despite the fact that these two have hurt feelings towards one another, their chemistry is still very strong. I kept hearing the song “coz you are the magnet and I am steeeeeeel” throughout this novella. Totally loved these two and glad they got their HEA.
Scarlett Scott’s stories are always keepers for me. She’s a “gets you in the feels” wizard with a pen… uh… keyboard.

At this time I have only read 3 of the books in the collection, but I will be reading the rest as soon as possible.
The Duke’s Surprise by Meara Platt – a nice love story between Cheyne (Lyon) and Jennie. They meet when Jennie brings Cheyne’s nephew to him and tells him she is his brother’s wife. The chemistry between both of them is undeniable. Cheyne is a good guy who loves his family. Meara Platt is a wonderful writer and makes the time go so quickly.
The Perfect Little Marquess by Annabelle Anders -this story was enjoyable. Christian and Lillian are a sweet couple and I loved their story of them falling in love. Annabelle Anders is a one of my to be read authors.
Wooed in Winter by Scarlett Scott – was so enjoyable I read it in one night. Haven and Hannah’s story was about lost love, misunderstanding and love not being lost at all. I enjoyed them and their story so much. Scarlett Scott is an amazing writer and I always enjoy her books.

Wooed in Winter
This series is a collection of works by some of my favorite authors. They are the type of authors who immediately lure you into their stories, hold you captive, and cause you to neglect your family But seriously, they do an amazing job of transporting you into their worlds & making you wish the stories would never end. I sighed, hoped, laughed, and teared-up at times. I’ve had the pleasure of reading 3 of these stories (reviewing one here) & can’t wait to read the rest!
Wooed in Winter by Scarlett Scott –
I love Scarlett Scott’s books and this one is no exception!
Graham, the Marquess of Haven, and Hannah, Lady Fawkesbury are our H and h. They have a heartbreaking past. Now, both are attending a house party, unaware the other will be in attendance. Graham is seeking a bride, while Hannah is essentially playing chaperone to her sisters. Graham & Hannah spot each other. Emotions are high. Both are bitter, confused & hurt by the past, yet neither can control their feelings and soon sparks fly (big sparks…and lots of them!!) My heart ached for these two! I couldn’t wait to see if they got their HEA – definitely some angst, but not too much. This is a touching story of second chances, trust, & forgiveness. The epilogue…wow.
The epilogue is absolutely beautiful.
This book is part of Scott’s The Wicked Winters series of novellas, but can be read as a stand alone. If you enjoy Wooed in Winter, read the rest of her Wicked Winters stories! You won’t be disappointed!
I received a free advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Fabulous series!
Loved this box set. Original stories, great characters, all different but all wonderful…some new authors I haven’t read before that I’ve fallen in love with. Each story was great in its own right and not too long that you could get through them in one sitting. Especially loved Wooed in Winter by Scarlett Scott. This book was on . Great addition to the Wicked Winter series. Dying for Adele’s story to come out. Well worth the read and a fabulous box set I will revisit time and again!
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review. Thanks

A lovely story of misunderstandings & secrets that I read in one sitting. Strong characters & a lovely story

So she goes to a Cyprian masquerade ball where she has one night with a handsome Scot but there are complications that can’t be ignored. The Earl of Sin by Tammy Andresen 4 .5 Stars
The Earl of Sinclair vowed never to marry again after losing his wife in childbirth. His daughter Anne is suffering after being kidnapped so on the advice of his friend Daring he agrees to hire Mary Chase.
A lovely novella of learning to love again & letting go of the past. Strong characters & a well paced story had me engrossed for a couple of hours

The Marquis of Haven has finally decided to do his duty and settle upon a bride, preferably before the new year begins. What better place to find her than a country house party? There’s just one problem, and she’s Hannah the beautiful widow who once owned his heart. Surely there’s no harm in indulging in one night of passion with her to get her out of his mind. But Haven is about to discover old habits are hard to break, especially when the consequences last forever. Oh my this was one sizzling read, a second chance romance where both Graham & Hannah tried so hard to hate each other but as the saying goes it’s a fine line between love & hate. I devoured it in a sitting & loved every word
Six lovely novellas from some of my favourite authors, each one different but each one a delight. Short enough to be read in a sitting but long enough to capture my interest & hold me captivated
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Wooed in Winter – Scarlett Scott
Another great Wicked Winters story. I love the enemies (I hate you, but I want you) to lovers trope. Their back and forth in this manner is so delightful to read. But you can feel that they cannot keep their hands off each other. The tension is right there to touch. Whew, I wish this were a longer story. But what happened to Adele? Guess we have wait to find out.
The Substitute Lover – Merry Farmer
Oh Benedict…he is totally swoon-worthy. Yes, he said he was in love with another woman but once he and Suzanne start interacting, the “gas” is thrown on the fire. I just love how he made Suzanne feel confident in their intimacies and their romance progressed so nicely as they talked and spent time in each other’s company. A truly wonderful read that will made you root for them the entire time.
The Perfect Little Marquess – Annabelle Anders
What a charming and lovely story. Bless his heart, Christian is bound and determined that he is going to die shortly and needs an heir to protect his younger sister from a distant relation who will inherit if Christian does not produce an heir. In walks Lillian who just needs to get away and be independent. Their meeting and wedding are very quick and over a period of time Christian discover that life should be lived to fullest. I really loved this story and could have read more.
The Earl of Sin – Tammy Andresen
Sweet. This lovely story shows that the you do not have to let the pain of losing a loved one rule your life. Sin and Anne learn that they can be happy again and Mary is the catalyst. Sin, Mary and Anne are all such sweet characters – you want to hug them.
The Scot’s Bairn – Tabetha Waite
I am just not into Scots, says no one ever! Totally over the moon for Callum. I loved him from the first moment we met him. And who cannot feel for Damaris. She takes control of her life and oops she is pregnant but do not worry her Scot will find her. Their courtship is unconventional but that is what I loved about it. And the ending, wow, just terrific.
The Duke’s Surprise – Meara Platt
Little Johnny is such a cute addition to this story. I dare you not to get that glazed over look when you read parts with him in it. Oh yeah, Cheyne and Jenny are sweet also. Is Jenny Johnny’s mother? Is Johnny a Lyon? Cheyne and Jenny dance around these questions in this slow burn romance that has some doubts and lots of sensual tension. A very nice story.
I received a complimentary copy from the author.
I loved this unusual take on the typical romance novel–each story involved a baby.
I found the stories charming and delightful.
Bliss. Total Bliss. Five of my truly favorite authors all together in one set. It really does not get any better!!
The Duke’s Surprise by Meara Platt
She was soaked to the skin and holding the wee bairn that she claimed was his brother’s. He had yet to determine if he believed her. But there was an ethereal quality about her with her enormous green eyes, the color of the Irish Sea. Cheyne took the letter from Jenny and as their fingers touched he felt a spark.. Of yes a very romantic story, even though Cheyne, the Duke of Lyon, was a little gruff and was not sure if she was telling the truth that she was his brother’s wife and the bairn was his nephew. Of course Jenny had a secret but she felt like she had come home at Castle Lyon. Such a sigh worthy story that Meara always creates that will take you on a journey to happiness.
Wooed in Winter by Scarlett Scott
Sigh.. I love everything this author pens and this is part of The Winter series which is simply fabulous!
She could not believe it! There he was, the Marquess of Haven!
“The man she had loved, once upon a time.
The man Who had scorned her and made a fool of her
The man she would never ever forgive.”
She knew she should not have come to this ball but she had to escort her two younger sisters.
As much as she tried she could not stop her gaze going to him.
Graham could not believe she was here! Of all the times when he had decided to look for a wife. Why did his heart still respond?
A romantic sigh worthy tale told with all of the wit and beloved characters that this author always brings to life. I could not wait to see what would happen!
The Duke and the Governess by Tammy Andresen
Miss Mary Chase knew that another season would not help her find a husband. She could not live off her aunt and uncle anymore. “You weren’t meant for a happy ever after, Mary! Haven’t you learned that yet?” were her thoughts as she stood at the gates for the position of tutor within the gates of the Earl of Sinclair (sin being the word!)
The Scot’s Bairn by Tabetha Waite
When one magical night changes everything, will she be able to find love?
Damarus was determined she would not marry the man her parents were forcing on her. Her idea? Ruin herself so she would not be fit for him. Simple, right? She attended a masked Cyprian’s ball, bumped into a gentleman, a scot no less, an actual Laird, with a kilt, a wonderful burr, wait I digress! Yes she lost her innocence that not but so much more!
Forced to go to a distant relative once she found herself with babe, she ended up near the Scottish border. Little did she know, Callum, the man she had her one night with, could not stop thinking about her.
Is there a way these two will meet again? A fast paced simply wonderful story that kept a smile on my face and made my heart warm…
Overall I liked it well enough. Three of the stories were very good. The others were ok, it was worth it for a quick time spender
I so enjoyed the stories of each and every one of these writers.
Sweet Read
This was a fun collection of stories from six great romance authors. I loved the common theme of surprise babies. The lords were not expecting to fall in love and have a baby already on the way! The stories were well written and had wonderful characters. Even though they were short stories with the same plots they were each unique to the author and their style of writing. This is certainly the perfect book if you are looking for some quick romance stories that vary in style and heat level!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Scarlett Scott’s book “Wooed in Winter
The Marquess of Haven has decided to attend the Devereaux Winter’s family festivities and start searching for a wife. Across the ballroom h see the one lady who broke his heart, and he still loves the Hannah the Countess of Fawkesbury. Hannah is panicked when she sees Haven at the party, she’s here to be a chaperone for her sisters not renew old acquaintances. She feels he betrayed her, he never loved her and did not answer her call for help when she needed him most. He feels she didn’t really love him, she went and married a man with a title making him feel like a complete fool. I loved this story of lovers reunited, passions flare as their misunderstandings come to light, but is it too late to have the happiness they were denied. An excellent story I loved and I voluntarily wrote a review.
This is a great boxed set to help get your mind of COVID-19. Secret babies are one of my favorite tropes so I was hoping this set would give me my fix and it did.
THE DUKE’S SURPRISE by Meara Platt… Wow, I’m a fan of the name Cheyne now! This is a relationship based on deception. Jennifer is dumped on Cheyne’s doorstep with a baby. But is she who she really says she is? I enjoyed this story very much. Very funny!
THE SCOT’S BAIRN by Tabetha Waite… Damaris Honeywell ruins herself to try to escape an arranged marriage with Laird O’Donogue and there are some unintended consequences including a baby. This is one of my favorite tropes and I enjoyed this story. Very steamy!
THE DUKE AND THE GOVERNESS by Tammy Andresen… The Duke of Chance needs a governess for his niece and Lucy Frank is just the lady. Maybe she could become more than a governess? Sweet story. Love heals all!
THE PERFECT LITTLE MARQUESS by Annabelle Anders… The Duke of Warwick’s family has had many tragedies befall them and this spare heir needs to secure an heir for himself. There was a lot of emotion and angst, which I love!
THE SUBSTITUTE LOVER by Merry Farmer… Lord Benedict Killian calls upon Meg Wallace to give him an heir without the shackles of marriage. There’s some money in it of course! There is a little more chemistry than they bargained for, however. This novella is scorching hot.
WOOED IN WINTER by Scarlett Scott… Mrs. Scott is one of my all-time favorite historical romance authors. She can do no wrong. I love everything she writes. This one has the angst I love. The Marquess of Haven is reunited with Hannah at a country house party. They each blame one another for ruining their lives. They soon realize that there was meddling that intervened in now-widowed Hannah’s ill-fated marriage to an odious man.
I love boxed sets because they give me a lot of variety and a chance to find new authors I like of the same genre!
Delightful, charming, wonderful, unique, laugh out loud are just some of the many positive words that describe this Regency Romance Set. Each story is unique and loaded with wonderful characters you will never forget. One that sticks in my mind was ‘Lady Chemistry’. These stories were a true delight and so enjoyable. The stories have just the right amount of romance and steam. I will be rereading these stories again and again. These authors are super at delivering stories you will fall in love with.
I highly recommend this set. You won’t want to miss the fun.
THE DUKE’S SURPRISE – Meara Platt never fails to provide her readers with absolutely the most fantastic heroes & Cheyne Lyon, Duke of Mar is another notch in her computer keyboard! Jenny Bramwell shows up, unannounced, to Cheyne’s castle with a baby & a letter in tow. The letter from his wastrul brother, John, stating she is his wife & the baby is Cheyne’s nephew. Something is not right about all of this – Cheyne & Jenny are attracted to each other but honor will keep them from acting on their feelings. The boy is his nephew but who is Jenny? A fun, romantic, family filled story with a great couple & endearing secondary characters in the form of brothers & servants. I just know you will loved the book!
WOOED IN WINTER – Scarlett Scott has succeeded in presenting another sizzling couple that should have been together much before now. Graham Dowling, Marquess of Haven is attending a house party to find himself a wife. It had been 5 years since his older brother’s death and Graham was forced in to title but it had also been 5 years since the only woman he ever loved had left to marry another. She was standing in the room with her younger sisters at this very house party – Hannah Spencer, Lady Fawkesbury, a widow now. There was miscommunication, lies told by family five years and love that never left either one of them for the other but how can they go back five years, do they really want to, and can they learn to trust? This was such a lovely second chance read for a wonderful couple!
THE SCOT’S BAIRN by Tabetha Waite – Lady Chemistry aka Damaris Honeywell has one thing in mind while attending this masked Cyprian’s Ball & that is to find someone to thoroughly ruin her to save her from a disgusting marriage to an old lord her Viscount Father had arranged for her. Not only did she succeed in finding someone, but he may be the love of her life. Laird O’Donogue, Callum Murray, was not looking for female companionship at the ball – he was at the gaming tables until he caught a man cheating & took chase after him. Along the way, he ran into Damaris who immediately propositioned him into a lusty situation that a healthy man could not resist. The name she gave was Lady Chemistry & months after their one night, he could not forget the blue-eyed lady in red. Damaris is shipped off to Scotland to stay with a cousin after finding she is with child & who should she run into, but the Murray Brothers & Callum would join them later. Their adventures, getting to know one another, the romance & his wonderful family, clan & servants were a tearful & heartwarming journey to love. I highly recommend this read – it will leave you with tears of happiness & big smiles!
