Can love truly overcome anything? The ‘Shadows’ are now all wed and settled – save for one. Lady Ann is the only one left unmarried, feeling alone and set apart from the others. It is just as well that she has found herself sought out by Lady Sapphira. The lady is desperate for the ‘Shadows’ to help her discover who has been sending her poison pen letters, finding each one more distressing than … distressing than the last.
Throwing herself headlong into solving the puzzle and protecting Lady Sapphira, Ann cannot help but notice one particular acquaintance, Lord Aldridge. But can she really allow her feelings to grow without being certain that he is not involved in any way?
Lord Aldridge cannot help but be interested in Lady Sapphira’s new acquaintance. Lady Ann is charming and rather refreshing in her manner, but when he discovers the reason for her friendship, everything changes.
When the mystery slowly begins to unravel itself, Lady Ann finds a terrible dilemma set before her. Will Lord Aldridge ever forgive her? Or will their friendship fracture and break, forever?

Great characters and mystery!
Lady Ann and Lord Aldridge had a poor impression of each other on their first meeting. They have a mutual friend that has asked Lady Ann to help her with a problem she has. She has been receiving threatening letters from someone who knows her very well. Lady Ann is a Shadow. They are a group of women who help others solve problems they have.
Once Lord Aldridge funds out what is happening with Lady Sapphire, he wants to do anything he can to help. However, that means also spending more time with Lady Ann.
One interesting aspect I enjoyed is that most of the personal feelings that were revealed in the story (personal thoughts) were Lord Aldridge’s.
3.5 stars…..
This is an enjoyable clean Regency romance that I read in one afternoon. “The Shadows” is a group of ladies who help out other ladies who come to them with a problem and Lady Ann is the only one left in the group that is not married so she takes the lead when Lady Sapphira asks for help. The story involves nasty letters, sabotage and compromising situations, all of which Lady Ann tries to figure out who is behind it all.
Lord Marc Aldridge is like a brother to Lady Sapphira and although he’s at first suspected, he’s soon helping out Lady Ann with the mystery. As they work together, feelings evolve but when the culprit is found out, everything could be ruined.
I usually like a bit more passion and heat between the hero and heroine but if you’re looking for a very clean romance….they even still call each other “Lady Ann” and “Lord Aldridge” right to the end….then you’ll be very happy with this book:)

Loved the fact that Lord Aldridge good friend of Lady Sapphira was doing his best to see her through the season. When Lady Sapphira was being threatened she went to seek out the Shadows to help and she met Lady Ann. Lady Ann thought to stay close to Lady Sapphira till they could find who was trying to discredit her. Lord Aldridge was considered one of them but also felt something for Lady Ann despite the distrust.
