Meet the Black Prince’s champion, a knight known as the Black Angel….1356 A.D. – It is warring times for England as the Black Prince sweeps his way through France, waging nasty warfare on the population. Masterminding this brutal strategy is the knight they call the Black Angel. Brandt de Russe, Duke of Exeter, is the brains behind the prince’s war machine, a mountain of a man who is as cunning … who is as cunning as he is frightening. In battle, no man is his equal.
The Lady Ellowyn de Nerra, granddaughter of the great mercenary Braxton de Nerra, has been sent to London by her crippled father to collect the men he has donated to the Black Prince’s wars in France. De Nerra men are mingled with the Duke of Exeter’s men and Ellowyn is at the dock when the duke disembarks his ships. In her attempt to introduce herself to Brandt and explain her purpose, the duke has little time for the beautiful young woman and mistakes her for a whore. Grossly insulted, Ellowyn threatens the man that all sane men fear.
And so begins the fiery, passionate, and deep love story that transcends families, kings, and two continents, building to the Battle of Poitiers where Brandt is on the front lines. In battle, no man is his equal but even the most powerful of men are prisoners of their own hearts.
Note: The de Russe Legacy series can be read in any order, as they are all stand-alone novels, but the chronological order (by the year the story is set in) is:
1 Lord of War: Black Angel
2 The Iron Knight
3 Beast
4 The White Lord of Wellesbourne
5 The Dark One: Dark Knight
6 Dark Moon
7 Dark Steel
more
Great book as are all Kathryn Le Veque books. I have read them all and still cannot get enough of these stories.
Lord of War: The Black Knight is part of the deRusse legacy………this book is packed full of action and lots of information regarding the Medieval period of history, plus romance thrown in. I loved it!
Very good
The story is well conceived, if at times improbable, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was distracted by other life-type things towards the end though and was struggling to make time to read it so ended up buying the audio companion to finish. Highly recommend listening to a sample before purchasing to ensure you can cope with the overly relaxed reading style of the narrator.
There was plenty of length to develop a great plot. The leading lady has it all.
Loved this book!!!
I always love her books
I so love it when a heroine stands up to a hero that all men fear! It makes for some very entertaining reading and I could just picture it all in my mind:) Ellowyn is such a heroine and when she and Brandt first meet, sparks fly and he doesn’t know what’s hit him! She’s quite the firebrand and instead of fighting her, Brandt decides to just enjoy the ride. With his heart involved, he shows her a side of himself that no one else has ever seen and she becomes his fiercest protector:)
I really enjoyed this story, I thought it was well written with lots of action and my heart really went out to Ellowyn with the decisions she had to make. Sometimes it’s very hard to choose between family and love!!
hard to get thru 2 chapters…
Thoroughly enjoy how she brings historical events and people to life with depth of emotion and expression.
I read books like this all the tlme ,easy to read and interested to read
Kathryn Le Veque is one of my absolute favorite authors and the quality of writing and her great talent for story telling in this book is the reason !!
Love the series
A little sappy but sweet.
Kathryn LeVeque is one of my favorite authors. She crafts stories about the Middle Ages that make you feel like you’re there. Her characters become like family to you because they’re developed so well. The intense battles as well as the equally intense sexual interactions between the main characters are never gratuitiously written, but are an intrinsic part of the story. The scenery is so vividly written you can almost feel the sway of the horse that you’re riding, whether you’re reading about going into battle or traveling to a Market.
I read these books more than once and always pick up more details. Thank you Ms. LeVeque for sharing your passion and writing with your readers.
She makes this time period come alive.
Return to Middle Ages and experience the mindset of a warrior. Great book! Great love!! Read!!
Read it and will enjoy it I did
Loved it
Enjoyable story but a little repetitious. The hero is enormous–how many ways can that be said? Although that was annoying to me, the book is a quick, engaging tale. Now I want to read more from this author!
