Meet the Black Prince’s champion, a knight known as the Black Angel….1356 A.D. – It is warring times for England as the Black Prince sweeps his way through France, waging nasty warfare on the population. Masterminding this brutal strategy is the knight they call the Black Angel. Brandt de Russe, Duke of Exeter, is the brains behind the prince’s war machine, a mountain of a man who is as cunning … who is as cunning as he is frightening. In battle, no man is his equal.
The Lady Ellowyn de Nerra, granddaughter of the great mercenary Braxton de Nerra, has been sent to London by her crippled father to collect the men he has donated to the Black Prince’s wars in France. De Nerra men are mingled with the Duke of Exeter’s men and Ellowyn is at the dock when the duke disembarks his ships. In her attempt to introduce herself to Brandt and explain her purpose, the duke has little time for the beautiful young woman and mistakes her for a whore. Grossly insulted, Ellowyn threatens the man that all sane men fear.
And so begins the fiery, passionate, and deep love story that transcends families, kings, and two continents, building to the Battle of Poitiers where Brandt is on the front lines. In battle, no man is his equal but even the most powerful of men are prisoners of their own hearts.
Note: The de Russe Legacy series can be read in any order, as they are all stand-alone novels, but the chronological order (by the year the story is set in) is:
1 Lord of War: Black Angel
2 The Iron Knight
3 Beast
4 The White Lord of Wellesbourne
5 The Dark One: Dark Knight
6 Dark Moon
7 Dark Steel

Another beautiful story by Kathryn.
Based on real life history, this story is built around 1356 war in France. As the war rages, Brandt, the Black Angel of war, brings tired troops home to England to replace with fresh. He meets Ellowyn, daughter of a mighty knight, who was sent to London to bring his tired troops home. They start with sparks that turn to love. This is a wonderful historic romance. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Brandt, Duke of Exeter in the 14th century encounters Ellowynn in London when he is returning her father’s men who had been fighting for Edward in France. The two got off to a rocky start when Brandt callyd Wynny a whore and she blasted him with her temper. As they travel to Castle Erith, Ellowynn’s home, the two develop a truce, then friendship, and finally caring. While the romance part of this book is traditional, the relationship between Brandt and Wynny is exceptional. Parts of the story are laugh-out-loud funny, parts are charming, and parts are nerve wracking. This was a great read.
I enjoyed reading it
this was one of my favorite books I’ve read it twice now and that’s something because I have over 1000 books and get more everyday
A good story.
Currently reading. Very good so far.
A wonderful medieval romance that touches two of the families of Le Veque’s high ranked knights. The legendary families continue and intermarry with wonderful new connections to one another with each new story Le Veque weaves for us to enjoy.
Great Read
Another Le Veque winner! Kathryn Le Veque is a master storyteller and never disappoints! Whether it is de Russe, de Wolfe, de Nerra, Pembury, de Winter, De Shera, or any other of her many families, you will enjoy her books and always be on the lookout for her latest release.
Enjoyed
Excellent, exciting Scottish historical romance. Could not lay it down. Unusual story line.
Captivating!!! Each page comes alive as though you are watching a movie!!! Great drama, romance and history!! Well done!!!
I enjoyed this book. It is a sweeping romantic novel. I would have enjoyed it more, if the father and the son had not died. But, I still think you will have a good read.
Mistaken for a harlot.
This is one of my favorite Le Veque books that I’ve read more than once. From the beginning when the Black Angel and the Lady meet, the book sets the tone of a powerful love story. I love my heroines strong and opinionated and my Knights willing to meet them as an equal!!!
