Golding’s iconic 1954 novel, now with a new foreword by Lois Lowry, remains one of the greatest books ever written for young adults and an unforgettable classic for readers of any age. This edition includes a new Suggestions for Further Reading by Jennifer Buehler. At the dawn of the next world war, a plane crashes on an uncharted island, stranding a group of schoolboys. At first, with no adult … of schoolboys. At first, with no adult supervision, their freedom is something to celebrate. This far from civilization they can do anything they want. Anything. But as order collapses, as strange howls echo in the night, as terror begins its reign, the hope of adventure seems as far removed from reality as the hope of being rescued.

“His head opened and stuff came out and turned red. Piggy’s arms and legs twitched a bit, like a pigs after it has been killed.”
I will never forget this scene, It’s marked indelibly on my brain.
I can’t actually say I enjoyed this book. It’s one of those books you’re really glad you read, but you wish you hadn’t. It’s just so well written, and …
I was asked to recommend a book for required reading. This was really hard there are several book that should be required reading. “Lord of the flies”, “Time Machine”, “Scarlet Letter”, “Uncle Toms Cabin”, “Fahrenheit 451”, “Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy”, “The Lion, the Witch and the wardrobe”, are just some of them. I believe a well read mind …
excellent study in Human Nature. A story of how the human can be the most savage animal in nature. Riveting.
William Goldings dystopian novel is no less relevant in 2019 than when published in 1954. If you have not read it, you should.
This book was a very big eye opener. It was disturbing, and honestly I found it quite entertaining for that reason. The way the author describes the book made me feel like I was actually there and the realistic picture it paints had me in awe. if you like realistic twisted books, this is the one.
Of all the great books out there….I’ve never understood why we insist on reading this one. Not a bad book per say, there is just so much better out there
This book is an absolute must-read! The characters and setting feel as though you could reach out and touch them. The are described beautifully. The story does not have a happy ending by any means, however that works to the stories benefit which is to make the reader ponder themselves, the people around them, and the systems they belong to.
There …
I loved why Golding wrote the book and the meaning behind it. However, it was not the most interesting to read especially because we did it for school. If we did not have to read it for school then I believe that it would have been a better book. A very powerful message and I loved the symbolism and imagery and how he related certain things or …
What a read it was! Enthralling and original. It dissects humankinds to its core, revealing our primitive nature and it doesn’t take much or too long to shed the cloak of civility, humanity and civilization.
One of my favourites to study at school.

When a plane crashes on a desert island, the survivors who are only a group of British schoolboys try to work together and assemble on the beach in hope that they will be rescued. They will create their own rules to survive until they get to know that there is a beast on the island. This is where …
No idea why this is a classic. I’ve read hundreds of books and could barely force myself to get through this. Maybe if I’d read it as a child?? Just not what I anticipated. I didn’t even understand part of it (No spoiler alert)
When I read “The Lord of the Flies” I was about 13 years old and it made a big impression on me. It was the first book that I read cover to cover without stopping for anything. The imagery and characters were visible in my mind and seemed so real. I have recommended this book to others many many times. The only other book that I have read …
Although I was forced to read this book for class, I did not regret it. You could not help but relate yourself and people you know to the characters in this book.It was very easy for me to become attached. It was a real eye-opener about human nature and many themes shown in the book include savagery vs civilization, good vs evil, and more.
remember reading this in school. remember not being impressed, not seeing the depth it was hyped up to have. remember needing none of it explained to me by those who thought it deep. as it’s considered classic n impressive, it must be educational fer most, so must recommend fer that reason
Poor Piggy. Poor, poor, Piggy.
One of my favorites.
A classic for any generation of young people.
Satirical of humanity’s need for leadership
Just read it.
One of the greatest books I have ever read
