They call him many names, but Angelic isn’t one of them . . . Sebastian Ballister, the notorious Marquess of Dain, is big, bad, and dangerous to know. No respectable woman would have anything to do with the “Bane and Blight of the Ballisters”—and he wants nothing to do with respectable women. He’s determined to continue doing what he does best—sin and sin again—and all that’s going swimmingly, … going swimmingly, thank you . . . until the day a shop door opens and she walks in.
She’s too intelligent to fall for the worst man in the world . . .
Jessica Trent is a determined young woman, and she’s going to drag her imbecile brother off the road to ruin, no matter what it takes. If saving him—and with him, her family and future—means taking on the devil himself, she won’t back down. The trouble is, the devil in question is so shockingly irresistible, and the person who needs the most saving is—herself!

This is one of those books that you will want to read over and over again. Both main characters are completely irresistible. I love the spunky, intelligent heroine, and the dark, broody, misunderstood hero. This just might be my favorite historical romance novel of all time, and that is saying a lot. You know how you’ll read a book, and you’ll …
I really loved it.
As much as Dain is an alpha hero, Jess really stole the book for me. She is smart beyond her years. I loved the way she handled each issue with grace and intelligence. i truly enjoyed it.
Completely deserves it’s status as a classic of the historical romance genre. Witty, sexy, delicious fun. A keeper!
Lord Of Scoundrels completely deserves its status as a classic of the historical romance genre. The hero Dain is a deliciously grouchy, arrogant alpha, while Jessica, the heroine, is gorgeous, stubborn and highly intelligent. The banter is witty and hilarious, there’s oodles of sexual tension, and the plot subverts traditional male / female …
“4 out of 5 stars! Exciting and smartly written! I was interested in reading this book ever since I saw it listed as one of Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ Favorite Historical Romances on her website, and I’m very happy to say that I ….”

This book was unexpectedly refreshing and fun to read. I am not reading a lot of historical romance but Loretta Chase has such a way with words that I was captivated from the first page.
The heroine, Jessica, is amazing. Strong, confident, courageous and very smart. She knows what she wants and has no issue getting it.
I loved the slow …
TOP NOTCH!!!
Absolutely FABULOUS Loretta Chase-a great story (hard to put down) with scenes of such side splitting humor you will have to put the book down until you finish laughing.
I loved this book and recommend it to everyone.
I starting reading it aloud to my brother and we both enjoyed it-I can still get a smile every time I mention that …
Warning: this book is addictive. This is a keeper that I find myself reading when I’m down. Jessica Trent is a woman of wit who will stop at nothing to save her clueless brother from Sebastian Ballister’s evil influence. But the sparks that fly between Jessica and Sebastian soon ignite into something stronger than them both. Their story never …
One of my favorite books!
Jessica Trent has traveled all the ways to Paris to specifically see Sebastian Ballister, Marquess of Dain. Jess’s brother has been cast under the spell of Dain and Jess is here to negotiate with the scoundrel. Dain doesn’t really care much for Jessica’s brother, but he’s willing to play the game just to aggravate Jess. When both of them are …
4.5 Stars!
It’s taken me a long time to finally read this often recommended HR, due to the lower ratings of books 1-2. If you know my neurotic reading tendencies, only upon special exception do I ever read a series out of order. Unfortunately, I’ve never been motivated enough to read the first two books, but after some further investigation, as …
Enthralling! A Must Read!
I enjoyed this book on so many levels: smart plot, entertaining dialogue, well-rounded supporting characters, and two passionate leads. Jessica was amazing. I love the way she interacted with Dane, giving him space and grace as he fought his demons. It was powerful. Her unflappability to Dane’s irascibility made his …
Jessica Trent has become my most favorite historical heroines ever! She’s intelligent, witty, beautiful, an excellent problem-solver with a no-nonsense attitude. She’s also kind and compassionate. She never cowers, even in front of the most intimidating and formidable Lord of Scoundrels! She barges into his world and topples everything upside down …
This book is very Wonderful!
I love this book. This came as a bit of a shock to me when I first read it. I had a hard time just getting past the cover which for the uninitiated gives not a hint of the wickedly smart contents enclosed. As someone who had always been skeptical of traditional historical romance novels, especially those involving English noblemen, there was no …
A vastly entertaining tale from a master of historical romance. Loretta Chase is at the top of her game with this moving and humorous story. Jessica Trent is beautiful and beguiling, but her kindness and intelligence are the undoing of the apparently hard-hearted Lord Sedgewick. An equally matched pair in wonderfully written romantic adventure. …
Audiobook is fantastic
Great book!!! This is worthy of 5 stars. You will want to read it again.
Impossible not to love this story.
Strong characters and marvellous banter.
I simply adored this.
Huge fun!
One of the best “ugly duckling” heroes in a historical romance who meets his match with the spunky and awesome heroine.
