Nondescript “good girl” Miss Camellia Grenville only ever opens her mouth when forced to sing at her family’s musicales. That is, until the night she infiltrates the ton’s most scandalous masquerade ball on behalf of her sister, and finds herself in the arms—and the bed—of the one man she’d sworn to hate.Irresistibly arrogant and unapologetically sensuous, infamous rake Lord Wainwright always … always gets his way. When he accepts a wager to turn his rakish image respectable in just forty days, he never anticipates falling for an anonymous masked lover…or that discovering her identity would destroy them both.

I enjoyed this historical romance that I won in a bundle from Jewels of Historical Romance. I voluntarily chose to review this. I gave it a solid 4-4.5* depending on how you feel about sexual content. This is not for the under 18 readers. It was funny and awkward in parts. This Lord did not know how offensive some of his comments were and didn’t understand why people were upset with him. A very nice ending.
I enjoyed this book. I loved the characters & the storyline. It kept me engaged from the beginning & kept me interested through the whole book.
Whenever I open an Erica Ridley book, I know it’s going to be entertaining. This book didn’t disappoint. I loved watching understated Camellia Grenville and the infamous Lord Wainwright fall in love. Such a fun read.
Rogues to Riches Volume 1 book 2
I like the emotional authenticity of both characters. They start and end in very opposite roles but both need change and strength to make the change. He has wasted his life as a rake and she has only existed to please others. Beautiful story of 2 people finding each other and the person that were meant to be.
Love this book!!! Must continue to read these characters:)
Erica Ridley has other hit on her hands. I have read three of the books in this series. Unfortunately out of order.
I have loved all of them, this one was a little surprising. I read a lot of Regency Romance and rarely are you allowed to see how the H and H really feel, what they are thinking. During this time period, men are seen as Rakes, able to do whatever they want and still belong to the ton. While the young girls or older ladies have to follow a strict code or be shunned.
Michael Rutland, Earl of Wainwright has been a Rake of the first order, sowing his wild seeds for a long time.
He become an Earl at a very young age. Now that he is 29 he is tired of the life he leads and of the caricatures
showing up daily of him in scenes that are not true and never happened. Most of all is the nickname they call him “Lord of Passion”. Yet all of the ton believes everything written or drawn about him. He makes a bet with his two best friends that he can change, and show all
he is not the person all think he is. He has to have no scandals, in the papers for 40 days, to win the bet.
What he does behind close doors, does not count as long as it causes no scandal.
Lady Camellia is the eldest daughter of three sister’s. The rule of society is the oldest must marry before the younger ones can. Camelia is 25 which is almost on the shelf. She has always been the “good daughter, quiet, doing what was expected, has been called mousy by some. She loves her life just like it is, she has her sister and brother, her singing and her books.
Then her mother tells her she is to marry in a month to a man as old as her father ! She has only meet him a couple of times. He lives in Northumberland, six days drive from her home. She is crushed. She is about to lose everything she loves, her music, family, rides in the park her life as she knows it.
Her sister Bryony has gotten a ticket to a scandalous masquerade and talks her into going. She decides she might as while live life to the fullest. At the masked ball she meets and enjoys talking and kissing a gentleman
she meets. As they talk, wearing masks they don’t know who each other is, or what class they are from
so the can be open and be them self. Something no one in the ton does.
As time goes on they meet a number of time as just Lord X and Lady X.
They fall in love and as they give into there passion, scandal hits home.
Unknown to both they know each other in real life, and kinda hate each other!!
You just got to buy and read this book, its great, sad, funny(her sister’s crazy fun), lets you know what happens when people are judged on Impressions of other instead of themselves. Also what happens when you go against the rules and do what you love.
Reading them in order would be best.
Enjoyed it
I just could not finish this book. Though the writing is well done and plot and pacing are reasonably skillful, I found the characters unbelievable. The H is supposed to be a misunderstood sensitive guy, despite years of words and actions to the contrary. Likewise, the h is supposed to be a very shy and timid young woman too scared to go to tea with her sisters. Suddenly, the h doesn’t want a marriage to a quiet gentleman who won’t require her to be social, and the H wants a monogamous relationship with a woman who understands his sensitive nature. Just no.
I’ve become a fan of Erica Ridley’s books and get very excited when I see a new one show up on my BookBub email listings!
I hardly wanted to let Lord and Lady X go when the story ended!
This book is a delight romp with our hero trying to prove he can be good. l
Great romance with interesting characters and a good plot.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading it! Her writing makes me feel like I’m actually the character! Very entertaining!

This cleverly written book was laugh-out-loud spectacular in places. It’s a book that I shall keep and read often. Well Done! Loved it!
