This is the third book in the Fallen Lafies trilogy. This story is about Portia and Dell. It is set in the exact same time frame as the other two books, just giving a different perspective and more information on the same story.
This is the perspective of Portia and Dell. Portia is the youngest of the Chadwick sisters. She is impetuous, passionate, quick tempered, and has no patience. She longs for excitement and adventure instead of the dull, slow life of an aristocrat’s wife. Dell was raised on the streets. He has become this vigilante for hire called Nightshade. Together they find passion and adventure.
This was a steamy read, there are acts and scenes discussed and several actual complete scenes. It was written well and the scenes added to the story. It was passionate and kept you interested.
The story is quite repetitive from the last two books up to about 30% of the book. There are actual conversations that were verbatim from the other two books. This is why it is a four star. The beginning was convoluted and redundant. If you had read the other two books you knew what was going on without reading it all over again,
That being said, the 60% of the remainder of the book was really good. I liked Portia’s attitude. Dell was a force to be reckoned with as well. There attraction to each other was instant. I enjoyed reading more about Mason Hale as well. His story is in a new series as well as his sister, hers is in a novella in Have Yourself A Merry Little Secret.
The plot when unencumbered with backstory moved really well. It was fast paced and was a page turner. It was a good storyline and completed the series well. I will definitely read Mason’s story next!!!!
Not my favorite of the three but still a good read.
I adore the Chadwick sisters books and Ms. Sandas has written another winner with “Lord of Lies.” Portia Chadwick is bored with the life of a debutante. She craves something more out of life than going to endless rounds of balls, parties and dinners. When her sister is kidnapped, she learns there is only one man who can save her and he’s the elusive Nightshade. From the moment Nightshade, aka Dell Turner, lays eyes on Portia, he knows she trouble–trouble that stirs his blood and makes him want sinful things. Can these two work together to find Lily before she’s lost to them forever?
Ms. Sandas is a talented author. I loved Portia–the no nonsense, passionate, unpredictable heroine. It’s a pleasure to read a regency romance that offers something different. The chemistry between Portia and Dell is undeniable and I was routing for them all the way. The book kept my interest throughout and there were a few twists and turns I didn’t see coming. That’s always a good thing. Fans of regency romance who long for a book that doesn’t stay in the ballroom will thoroughly enjoy this story.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I really like Dell/Nightshade and his occupation. His facility with disguises is very much in the tradition of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Portia is very dramatic and, to be honest, rather spoiled in that she usually gets her way, both in the family and in pursuit of Dell. That said, she does help Dell become more heroic and less mercenary. While their romance is hot, I didn’t find it as sexy as her sister Lily’s in book 2. Still, Amy Sandas is a fantastic writer of lushly sensual historical romance, and this book does a great job completing the Fallen Ladies series.
