A very enjoyable read. I loved Anthony’s character. Even though he had his faults he treated her so well. Then ending was sweet and wrapped the story up into a nice neat bow.
Lord Of Chance, by Erica Ridley, has been available at booksellers since April of 2017. Chance is book 1 in the Rogues To Riches series. It’s a good tale and works as a standalone story. We’re given a gambler down on his luck & a woman searching for respectability. In Scotland they make the mistake of telling observers that they are man & wife. Well, that got them leg-shackled for real. Scotland’s rules are very lax.
Anthony Fairfax is now determined to become a better man & good husband since he’s met Charlotte. She turns out to be the best thing to happen to him, he realizes this before she does. Charlotte is so busy trying to become & be respectable that she’s blind to a lot of other things. The secondary characters are lively and interesting, always a plus. I did think the story moved along slowly, which kind of rushed the HEA. I gave the 4th star because the dialog is so darn witty. Our couple play off each other to perfection.

To twisted for me.
Great Book
I took a ‘Chance’ on this book, and read it immediately, even though I own numerous ebooks. I enjoyed the humor and the twists. It encouraged me to search out more Erica Ridley books, especially in this series.
Poor girl makes it! good story.
An accidental Marriage.
Although the Story is well written, it just didn’t hit the mark.
Anthony & Charlotte find themselves in a marriage by accident.
I Love how Anthony gave his Mother-in-law the utmost respect, knowing she was a Courtesan.
In the beginning, I thought Anthony was part of the ton, a Viscount at least. But finally a Story about average people in history who showed respect but didn’t flaunt their $$ as some people do. They had friends who were nobility but didn’t dwell on it.
Going from being penniless to being comfortable.
Good character development. Really enjoyed the book.
I love her books
I enjoy this author
Rogues to Riches Volume 1 book 1
Me Ridley’s books are always fun to read for us romantics.
I enjoyed it
Unexpected love makes for a terrific romance!
It took me a while to really love Anthony, but only because the author wrote him as such a conflicted character that he keeps his true self well hidden behind his public facade. Like Charlotte, he’s trying to find a better way of life than what he’s been dealt, and never expected to find it at a gambling table just over the Scottish border.
Charlotte has invested her whole heart, her whole identity, in finding the man she believes to be her father. She certainly didn’t expect to find herself married to a virtual stranger, especially one who seems so irresponsible, but it was only with his help that she was able to discover the truth of her search.
These two never would have chosen each other had fate not intervened, but it’s apparent to all that they’re absolutely perfect together. It’s a testament to the quality of the writing that this author could give these characters such complex backgrounds and make them so relatable while still adhering to the stultifying societal restrictions of the era.
There’s quite a bit of insightful and witty humor sprinkled throughout, and the intimate moments are just steamy enough to be illuminating while remaining true to the characters. The attention to detail is amazing, lending an air of authenticity that transports the reader back in time. I had a lot of fun reading this book.
I could hardly wait to keep reading.
Great story. Two people get into a tough situation, but are able to make it successfully work.
Fun simple read.
Different twist on the romantic story!
Anything by Erica Ridley is great.
Read it start to finish. Couldn’t put it down.
