NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Diana Gabaldon weaves a dazzling tale of history, intrigue, and suspense in this first novel featuring one of her most popular characters from the Outlander saga: Lord John Grey. The year is 1757. On a clear morning in mid-June, Lord John Grey emerges from London’s Beefsteak Club, his mind in turmoil. A nobleman and a high-ranking officer in His Majesty’s army, Grey … His Majesty’s army, Grey has just witnessed something shocking. But his efforts to avoid a scandal that might destroy his family are interrupted by something still more urgent: The Crown appoints him to investigate the brutal murder of a comrade-in-arms who may have been a traitor. Obliged to pursue two inquiries at once, Major Grey finds himself ensnared in a web of treachery and betrayal that touches every stratum of English society—and threatens all he holds dear.
Praise for Lord John and the Private Matter
“[A] thoroughly entertaining and wonderfully witty historical mystery set in the richly detailed, occasionally bawdy world of Georgian England.”—Booklist
“Packed with vivid description and detail. Gabaldon aptly transports readers to eighteenth-century London, with all its reeking humanity and glitteringly elegant excess.”—BookPage

I liked that this book went along with the Outlander books…as the reader we learn more about Lord John’s world…a very interesting one. I had no idea such a sub culture, hidden because of the social morals of the time, existed.
Another great Diana Gabaldon Book!
Love Diane Gabaldon’s books!! Everyone is a wonderful story and a history lesson clothed in humor and believability.
I enjoyed it to a degree, but found it a bit wordy.
I read all the Lord John books, and thoroughly enjoyed them. The perspective of a gay man in London in the 1700’s was an interesting twist.
It’s Herself ~ what more could you ask for? More about the characters we love in Outlander ~ aaahhhhh!!!!

Lord John Grey is my third favorite character in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series. I was thrilled to find he had his own series of books.
Like all of D Gabaldon’s books is a great read and allows for further exploration of characters

I have always enjoyed the Outlander series. However, I couldn’t quite relate to Lord John. I found myself waiting to read a reference to Jamie or Claire. I will read one more to see if I can get into the series because I do enjoy Diana Gabaldon’s writing.
A great spin off from the Outlander series.
