“Covenant is [Stephen R.] Donaldson’s genius!”—The Village VoiceHe called himself Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever, because he dared not believe in this strange alternate world on which he suddenly found himself.Yet the Land tempted him. He had been sick; now he seemed better than ever before. Through no fault of his own, he had been outcast, unclean, a pariah. Now he was regarded as a … he was regarded as a reincarnation of the Land’s greatest hero—Berek Halfhand—armed with the mystic power of White Gold. That power alone could protect the Lords of the Land from the ancient evil of the Despiser, Lord Foul. Except that Covenant had no idea how to use that power. . . .

I loved, loved, loved the first trilogy. I read all the way through 10th book and the story is complex and worth reading. However, the first 3 books are WONDERFUL.
One of the best anti-hero fantasy books I’ve ever read.
I first read this series when I was a kid (in the 80’s) and loved it. As I reread the series again, it still keeps me hooked. If you like fantasy, then the Thomas Covenant series is a must read.
My only problem with this book, and the whole series, is with the strange names of the characters. It’s a problem I have with a lot of fantasy and sci/fi books
actually in many ways it’s a good read but the early scene of the rape of a teen-age girl by the protagonist outweighs the rest in my opinion. sorry.
Donaldson’s use of literary, archaic language was a plus with Kindle’s touch to see definition feature. Without this it would have been a drag on reading.
Not one of my favorites. To wordy not enjoyable.
Read it years ago now rereading on my kindle!
This is a well written and absorbing book that leaves you wondering if the protagonist has actually traveled to a different world.
ZZZZZZZZZ
The beginning of an epic fantasy. Fans of LOTR will thoroughly enjoy this one
One of the best fantasies i’very ever read. The story is so good, I wanted to read very fast to see what happens next. But the prose is so well written, I wanted to read slowly to savor every line.
Loved frio the day I picked it up to start reading it.
enjoyed the series
Very original and completely unpredictable but extremely well written and realistic for all of its immersion into the world of fantasy.
A true classic of fantasy literature!
In reading this book I discovered The Land, and decided it was as close to Middle Earth as I was likely to get. You don’t like Thomas Covenant, but you have to sympathize with him.
An excellent read thoroughly enjoyed it
Kind of depressing. I was still curious enough to slog through to the end of it to find out how it ended.
Worth the read. Donaldson is not on the level of Raymond E. Feist or Terry Brooks but still much better than a lot of the drivel passing for fantasy today.
