“Covenant is [Stephen R.] Donaldson’s genius!”—The Village VoiceHe called himself Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever, because he dared not believe in this strange alternate world on which he suddenly found himself.Yet the Land tempted him. He had been sick; now he seemed better than ever before. Through no fault of his own, he had been outcast, unclean, a pariah. Now he was regarded as a … he was regarded as a reincarnation of the Land’s greatest hero—Berek Halfhand—armed with the mystic power of White Gold. Nothing like it, one of a kind
One of the best series that I have read…highly entertaining.
I read this series and the second series many years ago…I persevered through them, but they are hard to recommend to other readers.
I loved it. The character of Thomas Covenant is fascinating. A flawed and fragile hero, who fights against his destiny every step of the way, and along the way, commits acts of malice and lets down those depending on him.
Read the book many years ago and very much enjoyed it. Intend to read it again in the near future.
Uber anti hero
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have read the first two series in the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. The world Donaldson creates draws you in. There is an emotional depth that held me, and kept me reading.
Enjoyed the book; storytelling is reminiscent of Tolkien and Lewis.
Like nothing else I’ve read! Wow!
About a tragic figure that WILL NOT GIVE UP in a Tolkien/GOT like world.
Each time I read this series I find new things and learn something about myself.
Terrific read and great series. A must read.
Great read, if you love swords and sorcery, this has a very different twist.
One of my most favorites, the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant rank with Lord of the Rings for readability again and again.
Depressing, oppressive, don’t hope. It’s a landmark series that is worth reading, but know going in it will be a long slog and things don’t go well. You will love the world he has created and love some of the characters, but don’t get too attached.
