Sometimes fate needs the hand of fortune… of Life, never knowing that his journey would lead him to a certain woman…
And destiny requires a little help.
Miss Fanny Grouseman is content selling vegetables at the local marketplace. She knows that she might never find love in such a small town, but she is happy to remain with her parents and two sisters in their modest cottage. When she meets the infuriating guest of the village squire, everything changes. Not only is she prevailed upon to make sure Lord Castleford doesn’t learn of the town’s rather secret dealings on the coast, but she has to suffer dance lessons with him as her tutor! It isn’t long until Fanny begins to see that Jonathan isn’t quite as horrible as he first appeared, but just because she might start growing fond of the handsome man doesn’t mean that anything might ever come of it.

I definitely loved reading this short romance story. I liked the pace of the book. I found the book easy to read. I enjoyed the entertainment of the book. The romance between Jonathan and Fanny was smoldering hot. The writer definitely provide details to describe the sensual relationship between the couple. The drama definitely kept my attention. The writer did an awesome job of not going into details that no relation to the story. I like how the writer kept the story simple and easy to read. I recommend this book.

This was a fun novella in the Fortunes of Fate series. There were many references to both Poldark and Dirty Dancing that worked perfectly in the small village Regency setting. Fans of either of those shows will have fun with the story.
Madame Zeta again sets a couple on the path of life, possibly destined to find true love and their life’s purpose. She hands Lord Castleford a symbol of the path and gives him a prophecy. While he is convinced that his trip to Cornwall will prove that he has been bamboozled with a worthless tin mine, he does find Miss Fanny Grouseman quite intriguing. Throw in some dance lessons and a vegetable or two, and you’ve got the makings of a great romance!
Good story about a bored rake who wins a defunct mine in a game of cards. He reluctantly travels to see the mine, only to encounter a gypsy fortune-teller, smugglers, and – of course – the love of his life.
Lovely fast-paced read. I am such a fan of this author.
A delightful story to kick off this Regency romance Shared World!
Fun and quick to read novella. The romance progresses really fast, but that’s just due to the brevity of the book. I was particularly amused at the way both Jonathan and Fanny reacted irritably at the beginning to their insta-lust. Fans of Dirty Dancing will enjoy the references snuck into the story. The external plot at the end seemed a little too easily solved, but that’s a pretty minor issue. Recommended for an enjoyable one-sitting read.
Cornwall, England 1816
“You were brought to me for a reason, Englishman,”Madame Zeta announced. She brought forth a white handkerchief with the same symbol Embroidered in gold thread as the gold medallion around her neck, that seemed to shine. “This is for you… to remember that whatever it is you seek, you shall find it if you will only be true to yourself.”
Thus it seems fate has stepped in as Lord Jonathan, on his way to Cornwall, comes upon a group of gypsys needing help and he meets Madame Zeta. He continues on his way to his friend’s house, the local squire, to stay, while he goes to investigate the tin mine he won in a card game. What? Oh yes, this is fabulous!
Then he meets Fanny Grouseman (yes, in a most unexpected way!), who is selling vegetables at the local market. She really is not happy when the squire to help keep the town’s secret from getting out but she has to spend time with Jonathan!
Thus the read fateful adventure begins! I love this start to this new enchanting series and Tabetha Waite has outdone herself! Full of humor, secrets, great dialogue, wonderful supporting characters and some parallels to… well you will just have to see for yourself! Also, what did the gypsy mean? Will these two find love?
I do warn you though, once you start reading, there is no stopping!! Cannot wait for more!
Lord Jonathan is a rake and second son of the Earl of Vellerman. He has won a tin mine (because the loser of the card game could not pay him cash) and agrees to travel to Cornwall, look at the mine and return to London. On his journey he ran into a group with a wagon stuck in the mud. He helped them and they offered food & drink but also he met Madame Zeta who give him a handkerchief with some gold embroidery & tells him about The Path of Life – his destiny is what he sees and makes out of it. He leaves and travels on, luckily one of his friends he has know since Eton lived in the small town & he could stay with him & his wife.
Miss Fanny Grouseman is the oldest of 3 girls and they live happily in a cottage in the small town. Fanny grows and sells her vegetables at the market everyday. She knows she will probably never find love in the small town and is happy to live with her family. Then she meets the infuriating guest of the village squire & their adventures begin.
Jonathan & Fanny are a great couple – there’s humor, danger, smuggling, lies, romance, love and a wonderful supporting cast of characters. I highly recommend this book – it is short but Ms. Waite manages to pull you in to her story and become engaged with her characters.
Sometimes fate needs the hand of fortune…
Lord Jonathan Castleford wasn’t looking for romance on the road to Cornwall where he was going to see a tin mine he’d won. He just wanted to get the journey over with and return to London, but a chance encounter with a fortune teller by the name of Madame Zeta changes all that. She tells him about The Path of Life.

Not only is she prevailed upon to make sure Lord Castleford doesn’t learn of the town’s rather secret dealings on the coast, but she has to suffer dance lessons with him as her tutor.
I devoured this book in one sitting, this is the first book in a joint collaboration of authors & if all of them are this good then the fortnightly releases are going to keep me very happy over the next few months. I loved, loved the names & some of the references to a certain film! A very well written novella with strong characters & a well paced story. Instant attraction, misunderstandings & of course romance made this an enthralling read. I’m sure Jonathan & Fanny had the time of their lives.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
